I have never understood why he should've been double clutching when upshifting..

I can understand when down shifting.. But he was driving a fwd/awd eclipse. If it was 500hp+ with nos etc it should've had straight cut gears and could've just been flat shifted. Or was vin implying the shitty stock glass gearbox of the eclipse needed to be double shifted to withstand the ridiculous drivetrain shock it was recieving.

Anyway
Streets closed pizza boy.. Find another way home.

I think Vin was implying that the writers had no idea about cars and just threw a bunch of car-related words into a sentence knowing that normies won't get it anyway

I think we should all start telling kids to float gears when they ask "How do I into manuél?"

Synchros will probably be destroyed in a day, but it's possible to do.
>>
>>14163489
Double clutching on an upshift is just as important as it is on a downshift. Which is not very for a synchromesh box, necessary with a crashbox.
But then clutchless rev matching achieves the same thing anyway.
>>
>>14163564
Except when floating gears you're going to wear your synchros a lot more than with double clutching or at least pressing the clutch when you put in the next gear if you don't get the revs matched very nicely. Obviously that's not an issue if you git gud and get it perfect every time though.
>>
>>14163559
Got into a manuel car after about 10 years of driving automatics and three years of driving a big truck and couldn't stop trying to float the gears! Took about three days to get over it. Mostly.
>>
>>14163592
That's how I feel. If I ever buy a manual car, I know I'm going to be trying to float the gears. My dad told me when he had his AMC Javelin back in the day, he would float the gears. He's like "Hell, I never used the clutch! I would just jam it into gears when shifting and cali-roll stop signs in first." Too bad he didn't keep that thing so I could steal it when he died.

>>14163585
Just gotta git gud. When driving something without synchros, you have to rev match perfectly to catch the gears. Even double-clutching, you gotta match the revs really close to get it into gear.

This. It's totally unnecessary.
>Oh, but muh syncros!"
That's what they're there for, poo-brain, unless you literally match the revs perfectly, they'll see wear anyway. And if you're perfectly matching revs every single time, why bother using the clutch at all?

Have you ever watched a race in those movies? It all makes sense now. They have fuller 10speed trans in all the cars >>14163531
>>
>>14163989
>>14164006
theres not even enough rotating mass to even be able to, is there? id imagine theres enough friction there to slow it back down immediately when you let off the gas, might as well just be called rev matching at that point
>>
>>14164035
To be able to what? You can clutchless shift in anything. You can also double clutch in anything, but the clutch won't be heavy enough to slow down the engine
>>
I'm new to driving a manual

Can someone give me a rundown on double clutching and rev matching?
>>
>>14163451
Shifting?
clutching?

Are these europoor things?
>>
>>14164131
You don't slow the engine noob. You make contact with the flywheel matching trans input shaft speed with crankshaft speed. It is a form of rev matching.

Google heel toe downshift. Don't bother with the other. You don't need either in normal driving
>>
>>14164223
I hear this google thing is pretty good for that.

Double clutching and rev matching is what you do to shift a non-synchromesh truck box.

Stop watching movies for driving advice
>>
>>14166264
Rev matching is for synchros, double clutching is for non-syncs
>>
>>14166277
Well.. you can rev-match with a synchromesh box, but it does defeat 99.98% of the point of having synchros in the first place. Without synchros, you need to rev match to prevent crunchy crunchy

.02% is reserved for hella fast downshifting
>>
>>14166301
Rev matching reduces syncro wear, while sounding and feeling good, both in terms of providing a smoother ride and being an achievement when you pull it off perfectly.
