I might get the opportunity to move to Comox, BC next year. From the looks of Google Maps, there are a ton of minor roads around the mountains, but I'm not sure if they're gravel or not.
Anyone live out there? Any good touge? Racing scenes? Seems like it'd be an alright place to drive, and maybe import a car from Nipland.
I live in the valley, all the roads your looking at are likely gravel. Only paved roads into the mountains is strathcona parkway. Highway 28 to to gold river is fun and paved, as is highway 19 all the way out to port hardy. Highway 4 is paved all the way to tofino, but sees really heavy traffic. All are quite a drive however. Forbidden plateau road is local to comox valley and is a lot of fun if you don't mind a little rally stage on the gravel. There's no meets or anything like that, just one small tight knit group of drifters and thats about it,they got a couple of miatas, some tanked s13's, a handful of e36's and and Rx7's. One guy owns an evo 4, dc2 and ver 5 sti, but that's about the most interesting thing. Dont let that discourage you from living here though. The city isn't the most interesting place in the world but its right in the middle of the island making it close to all the interesting things and places on the island.

Well for starters you got places like long beach out in tofino if your a surfer. Mt washington is just out side of courtenay if your a skier or snowboarder. Fishing opportunities are pretty much endless no matter where you go. Plenty of parks for hiking n'shit, the crown jewel of which is strathcona park. Don't expect much nightlife or city luxury's outside of nanaimo or victoria though.
So it looks like a track is being built between Nanaimo and Victoria.

Its a collaboration between a bunch of high end dealerships out of the lower mainland, so no promises on it being cheap. Not to mention there's not a lot of car clubs who could really sponsor a track day. especially nothing in the jdm crowd.

where's all the rich car guys? if i was a multi hundred millionaire the first thing I would do is build a smallish track similar to brandshatch in size. just big enough for touring cars and club racing, but with professional build quality and facilities.
it wouldnt even have to make money. as long as it simply sustained itself would be enough for me.

It will be expensive. It's built by GAIN (german auto import network) who own bmw, audi, benz, porsche, vw dealerships on the island. That said if you deal with any of those guys you'll get invites to track days. They used to hold them at a small shitty track and I got to go there with MINI a few times. Recently bought a BMW from them and I'm looking forward to checking out this new track.

Not /o/ related, but I'm curious. Is there any Asian culture influence there, due to being on the coast? A mixed NA/Asian culture sounds kinda interesting, and I know people joke about Vancouver being basically Hong King.

We have some nice riding roads if you're a motorcyclist and weather is very mild.
