so everyone on /o/ with a small Japanese Nippon mobile seems to hate any American cars, and vice versa.

my question is who else actually doesn't give a shit? they both have their obvious benefits.

which leads to my point, of why don't people have both. A muscle car, and an "import" for a DD.

nip cars get better gas mileage, good traction in all scenarios (FWD), are cheap to own and are reliable, drive nicely, handle good etc.

(good) American cars are usually much more powerful, much faster, better acceleration, better handling at speed, better braking, more stability, comfortable, better for highways, etc

anyone with a job can easily afford a muscle car and an economy car. so why the hate between the two

>i personally own an LS1 T/A and a 1.5l Civic DX hatch

why not you?
>>
Plenty of people are the same as you, the internet just gives mouth breathing retards a louder voice, especially /o/. Gonna debate you on better braking stock for stock though.

>Gonna debate you on better braking stock for stock though.

well my 4th gen TA out-brakes the fuck out any eco car i've driven

my civic has fucking drums on the rear. and tiny single piston fronts. it's only good enough because the car is light and not going very fast

I feel lucky not to be part of the nationalistic shit flinging that comes with car culture. I only rank brands and cars on their own merits, not by the country they come from. I'd gladly have a high displacement Foxbody and a high boost S-Chassis in my garage.
>>
Because for a long time Nippon did sports cars better for cheaper and with a smaller displacement engine and better fuel economy

2005ish to about now was a shitty time for Japanese sports cars (there were hardly any) nissan went full shit mode and stopped giving a fuck
>>
>>14155058
I guess I'm more talking about the Japanese performance cars with good brakes. Just less inertia to counteract with less mass moving forward.
>>
Tons of people don't give a shit about muscle vs rice box

They have other interests because they don't care about automobiles outside of if it gets them to their destination.

I only stuck around after vinbro told showed me my car report because I was interested in what sort of kids who just learned how to drive would act in a community.

The answer is: like kids, but it's endearing enough that I'm still here.

Every car and type of car has its own advantages and disadvantages. No car is perfect for everyone, but there is at least one or two cars in the world that you would consider absolutely perfect, or very close to it.

I know there are hardcore car enthusiasts with money that would say that Japanese Hot Hatches and American Muscle Cars are hopelessly outmatched by Ferraris from the 50s onward (but especially 60s-80s). Others might say British GTs are unequaled in their superiority. And then you have the people who like less expensive cars and even collect them to some degree.

The thing about car enthusiasm is that you really can't be wrong because its all about opinion and preference. But some of the more childish people in the community absolutely can't stand the idea that someone has a radically different opinion than they do, and so they have to devote their time hopelessly trying to prove that person's opinions wrong, and given 4chan's reputation as a wasp's nest that attracts all sorts of underaged pre-teens and teens who feel that they absolutely must be as edgy as contrarian as possible because there is no other reason for 4chan to exist, then stuff like /o/ happens.

>>
>>14155092
i believe there is a power-economy-reliablity love triangle.

you cannot have all three without the hidden fourth factor of cost going up exponentially.

an evo is very reliable, very powerful, not very efficient.

a gm LS v8 is very reliable, somewhat powerful and somewhat efficient.

there is always a trade-off. always.

power goes up, efficiency goes down. when they both go up, reliability suffers.

Honda even acknowledges this with their small-engines. The engines that are designed specifically for fuel-economy are noted less reliable.
>>
>>14155139
>an evo is very reliable

I'd like to believe this since I'm planning on importing a 7 to Canada, but this isn't really what I've heard from anyone.
>>

>You literally can't even drive a RWD in the rain, let alone the snow or any other type of adverse weather

my torsen-diff equipped RWD has better traction than any FWD car ever.

two 9.6" wide tires turning compared to your tiny economy car spinning 1 itty bitty wheel.

>more room, better for things and passengers

this is correct.

> It takes at least a 5.0 liter engine to even compete with a hatchback civic and a few simple mods and even then it's still an easy win for the hatchback.

this is incorrect. it would take my hatch a full swap and turbo build to even KEEP UP with my stock muscle car. a d-series turbo is wayy slower than a stock LS1.

No idea why I'm responding to this but

Literally the only time laptimes matter is if you are autocrossing your car, and not many people do. If you are driving on the road, driving enjoyment can ONLY be determined by feel, and what feels good is subjective. Even if you can afford to go to track days, you are usually only racing yourself.
>>
>>14155481
It's not that they don't matter, just that they're not the end of the world. The laptimes you should be focusing on are you own. "How do I go faster, with both my driving style and car modifications? Can I brake a few feet later into that corner?" Etc. And also learn how to have stupid fun like chucking the car sideways.

I know for a fact that a '91 honda civic on aftermarket wheel/tire setup and suspension mods still feels rather unstable and bouncy at really high speed.

my STOCK trans am feels better at high speed. the only time a honda really has better handling response is at slower speed.

they are small, lightweight, great for tight corners. you know what all that equates too? slow-speed cornering abilities.

civics are not great at high speed cornering. nor are they really that great at high-speed anything.

ricers are so delusional they think FWD hatches are like Lamborghini-tier handling or something. mostly because they feel GREAT at low-speed; and that's all they ever get to.
