What does /scoot/ think of the Zuma 125? IMHO it's the most well-rounded scooter on the market today.

Rented a kymco agility 50 in key west. Shit was fun but slow as balls, barely made it to 32 mph. I'm not even big or heavy, 110 lbs and leaning forward for aerodynamics.

I'd probably get a motorcycle or larger displacement scooter if I bought something with two wheels.

question for scoot enthusiasts who get scooters 150cc and larger:

WHY?

why the fuck would you get a piece of shit autotragic scooter when you could get a motorcycle?

not talking about you 50cc guys who just get them for riding in the city, i'm talking faggot hipsters who get 150-250cc scooters and ride them on main roads and highways

what the fuck is the point other than broadcasting to the world that you like to gag on cocks

Kymco has a bad rep for seeming like the typical "Chinese scooter" but actually they have the build quality of a Honda.

50cc scooters generally top out at around 30-35 MPH. If you're looking to go faster, there are scooters in higher displacement categories. I would recommend a 125cc. Kymco makes those as well. Definitely drive before you by and find out what best suits your needs.

>>14153590
well, yeah why else would I get a scooter
>>
>>14153545
Price is the biggest factor. While prices vary widely on the used market, most new scooters are cheaper than most new motorcycles. A good quality scooter will almost always be cheaper than a good quality motorcycle, on average.

Aside from that, there's a smaller learning curve due to the fact that scooters have automatic transmissions, so beginners don't have to worry about things like stalling the engine.

Fuel economy is also a key advantage scooters have over motorcycles. It isn't uncommon to see scooters in smaller displacement categories to achieve well over 100 MPG.

A conditional plus, depending on what model you get, you can have a lot more storage than a typical street bike. Underseat storage with the typical model of scooter is no joke. You can fit all of your riding gear in some of them. On a street bike you'd be lucky to have enough room to stow away your helmet.
>>
>>14153612
In conclusion, "different strokes for different folks" is the key factor here. If you don't like scooters, don't get one. If a motorcycle better suits your needs as a rider, then don't waste your time on scooters. However, there are plenty of higher displacement scooter enthusiasts out there who don't need to justify their hobby. Mainly because it's just that, a hobby. As long as they're having fun, why does it matter?

I own a scooter, and I agree. A 125cc is one thing, but there are people who actually pay money for a 500cc+ scooter. Just get a cruiser.

>>14153518
I like my Zuma 50 as much as one can actually like a scooter.

>>14153543
My 50cc does 43mph all day before the CVT says "no more". From what I hear, that's bretty gud for a 50cc.

>>14153688
43 is really fast for a 50cc, it's stock? 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

He could also check out a Piaggio Fly 150.

Not quite as fast as the PCX but considerably cheaper. Less than 3k new. Also super light. Even lighter than the Zuma 125. Plus it doesn't look as tryhard as the PCX, which looks like a scooter that really, really wants to be a street bike.

4 stroke. It's a 2014.

I think the WAT sticker has a lot to do with it. It's nice tho because I can take it on 35mph roads and accelerate and cruise comfortably. Even 40-45mph roads, but I try to just take my car if I need to do that.

You didn't really goof. My Zuma was like $4k new after all was said and done. But I do love passing other 50cc's on A1A and looking as smug as one possibly can on a scoot.

I'm suprised the Zuma 125cc is only a 1.6gal tank. Mine is something close to that, maybe 1.4gal.

The one thing a lot of people say they like about the Zumas is the fat tires. They say it gives them a lot more confidence over bumps.

And those prices will never be anywhere close to what you will pay if you buy new. The MSRP on the Zuma 50 is like $2700, but when I was shopping, everybody wanted $1500+ for assembly and shipping. Hondas were the same way.

What if I got a scooter and used it to deliver pizza?

I know some guys who sometimes don't break even on tips because they have to pay for gas, but if I'm getting 70+ MPG and have a custom trunk/carrier made to fit pizza boxes, and only dropping $10-$20/mo on insurance, I should be able to make a killing, right?
>>
>>14153787
They're penny-smart but dollar-stupid. Buy used from 1-2 years ago and you'll save a fortune. They pop up on craigslist and cycletrader just before summer ends.
>>
>>14153797
depends on the company policy but I've seen scooters delivering before. cars are very expensive to own cuz of insurance that's really where u save the most not gas
>>
>>14153797
Depending where you live, it wouldn't be a bad idea at all. You could totally strap the pizza bags to the rack on the back. Plus if you are in an urban area, it will be faster than a car.

Also, idk about where you live, but for 50cc scoots in FL, insurance isn't even required. And registration is like $30/yr. also 100mpg+.
>>
>>14153840
isnt lane splitting illegal everywhere tho
>>
>>14153849
Not sure. But going 3mph over the speed limit is illegal too and it doesn't stop anybody.

It's not just lane splitting tho. Parking is super easy, you could ride that fucker up to somebody's doorstep. And turning/changing lanes and all sorts of little stuff is easier when you're basically riding a bicycle. There are so many little things you can't do in a car.
>>
>>14153860
but srs if that anon could lanesplit he would be the fastest pizza delivery guy ever, he would get major tips

>>

I've heard that if you buy chinashit you should tear it down and rebuild well to see if anything was fucked up in production or assembly. I've heard of a chinese bus having only tack welds on a suspension piece with just urethane caulk in place, and a small bicycle engine kit having a load of metal shavings in the cylinder. Don't trust that shit right out of the box, give it the once over.

Ok so since it hasn't been posted yet, how meme is a Honda Ruckus? Thinking for commuting in Chicago but might go full potato and do some longer trips on it.
>>
>>14154802
The best thing about a ruck is the slew of aftermarket parts available and the huge community following it

However, it's really expensive for a 50 and unless you're going to be customizing it, there are plenty of better options you can get.
>>
>>14154073
That's just an autotrans motorcycle

I wouldn't consider that a scooter
>>
When I was looking at 2 wheeled motorized transport I had considered scooters for awhile. What made me look at motorcycles was that few of the scooters I sat on fit me and my legs comfortably and that I might be taking it over rougher roads. Ended up with a Honda CBR250r.

Its purely academic at this point, but what scooter would you all have recommended for a 6'1, 36 inseem, 270lb user?
>>
>>14158083
Honda PCX. Im taller than you and it fits me just fine.

Why are scooters considered girly?

Why am I automatically seen as a faggot if I ride through town on one?
>>
>>14159704
The only people who think scooters are girly are fags who aren't comfortable with their masculinity

They have to show the world how manly they are with how they drive

Scooters are an economically sound buy and a lot of fun for everyone, and anyone who can see them for what they are is the real faggot
>>
>>14159704
>Why am I automatically seen as a faggot if I ride through town on one?

who cares what people think when you get 100 mpg, don't need a license, and insurance is literally pocket change?
>>
>>14159704
Because you're American? They aren't considered girly pretty much anywhere else - especially not in Asia and Europe. My boss rides a scooter to work and I'd say I see mostly men on them in general. I actually sold my motorcycle to buy a scooter (among other things) because they're much more practical yet still fun to ride and I can transport a six-pack of 1.5l bottled water AND a couple of other groceries w/o even needing any kind of bag or additional storage (like a luggage rack).
>>
What's the best 250cc scooter?

I wanna scoot but I also have a few 55 MPH roads between my home and my workplace that I'd be worried about.
>>
>>14160066
Well... where do you live? And how much money do you want to spend? And last but not least, what style do you prefer? General brand rules:

Japanese > European = Taiwanese >>>>>>>>> Chinese
>>
>>14160299
>Well... where do you live?
East Tennessee

>And how much money do you want to spend?
Less than $4k if possible

>And last but not least, what style do you prefer?
I think any style can be charming as long as it is sturdy. I prefer the larger cruiser models (I'm a bigger guy) but I'm not opposed to the smaller zippy type scoots.
