Finally completed major service on bike, took 4 days. Maybe if I wasn't trying to be like KKK and stayed sober it might have only took 2 days.

Some people like that CBR250R anon have ridden through trails like you mentioned. I wouldn't recommend it, but its doable.
I think it is a much better idea to go for a CBR300. The pretty much take care of the lack of torque that the CBR250 has in the low rev range. Either bike is fine.
Did you try the other small dual sports made by other companies? Yamaha has the WR, the KLX exists, Suzuki has the DR.
Don't limit yourself to Honda.

So for the other dualsports the WR250 costs about 8 grand, so it's out of my range. The XT250 is the only other one I think that's comparable to the CRF250l, alongside the KLX250S.
Do you have any other suggestions for bikes I may be interested in? Honestly,one of the main reasons I was angling for a dual sport was the durability for a novice rider, but if the Honda is crumpling after a fall.. that has me worried
My dream bike is the DR650SE but that's also out of my price-range, I think I'll upgrade to that a few years down the line.
The DRZ-400 I read was more suited to off-road usage and had an uncomfortable seat, whereas I'm just looking for mainly an adventure bike with some off-road capabilities.
