Is it worth spending about £7500 on one?

Kinda hard to say. Depends highly on the condition, age and spec. On a theoretical level I encourage you to buy a Capri.
Also (euro/SA) Capri thread.
You can spend 3k or so on a decent MK3
There are still loads of them

I really want to swap a 302 into a 2.8i so I can have 5.0 stickers like a foxbody.
One day I will have one with an alloy block and all the trick bits

Some australian company has a kit to swap 302s into Cortinas. Not sure on the Capri

I'm sure it's been done and isn't a big deal at all. I'm just poor.

Good looking, but widely held to handle like poop without substantial modification. Also, badly affected by our national fast Ford tax.
If you particularly like em, it might well be worth it, but you could get a hell of a lot more performance for the money if you wanted to.

Castlemaine Rod Shop down in Victoria has all the engine conversion stuff for Capri's

Fuck no OP, are you high?
what would make you even consider this?
Been owning a 2.3 V6 from 1979 for a bit more than a year now, rebuilt the carb' and am very happy with it.
Good looks, nice sound, fun to drive, turns heads. Parts are cheap, maintenance is easy as can be.
Would recommend.
Yet £7500 is too much IMO, even for a 2.8i. Make it 7500€ and you can still find a decent 2.8i in Germany. Not sure about UK though, since it's rust-island.

Yeah, obviously, the car is 35 years old...

have the prices gone that high now?
well at least you won't lose money when you sell it.
when these came out a clock was considered a luxury feature so prepare for a culture shock if all you are used to is modern city cars.
Also fitting a V8 shouldn't be a problem if you wanted to.
