Actually, McLaren had twin turbo 454 based 496 big block Chevy engines developed for Can Am that made more power than the Porsche, but the series collapsed in on itself with the oil crisis and teams pulling out. The rules weren't changed to keep Porsche out at all. In fact if you read up on it McLaren was sad they didn't get to try and respond win or lose because the series died.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd-ZR9ihGfs

5.97 @ 240 mph with a 2k plus hp 3.5 liter 2JZ with a single 98 mm turbo. Meanwhile the Amerifats need 8.6 liters in a 1 off billet engine very loosely based on a big Chevy and a pair of 88 mm turbos just to go a bit quicker at 5.77 @ 258 mph.
>>
>>
>>14135189

They were 494 cubic inch engines with twin turbos. They ran a bit in the last half of the 72 season with a minimum of 1200 hp, but the already unreliable car was further plagued when the turbos were added.
>>
>>14135554
plus that still has the IRS doesnt it?
>>
>>14135843

No. The "factory" IRS car is much, much slower. The 5 second car is a full tube chassis with a drag race Strange 9" solid axle.

7.33 @ 195 mph I think is their best.

Once you get this low, tenths of seconds are big.
Output has to increase exponentially to lower times. It's not a small exponent, either.

10k HP dragsters score a mere 2 seconds faster. That's 4-5x the power for a ~35% reduced time.

It takes literal rockets to get into high 3s.

Yeah, I know about drag racing. But 5.77 is the pro mod record in a very good DA. There are events with a DA similar to what the Titan Motorsports Supra ran in where 5.85 is a good time.

3.5 liter single 98mm on a 10.5 tire verus Amerifat 10.2 liter twin 98mm on massively wide tires. 5.95 @ 244 mph.
>>
>>14135554
You're literally fucking retarded if you think that 2JZ is any different from a promod car. The only thing in the 2jz that is still a 2jz is the block casting.
>>
>>14136082

Never said it was different aside from a missive difference in displacement. Not even sure if they're running a 2JZ block or a billet block. The pro mod doesn't even have a single part designed from a production piece. It was a clean sheet engine.
>>
>>14136043
Is that pro mod street legal?
>>
>>14136116

When it ran 5.95 it wasn't. Guy swaps out the cooling system, doors, suspension, exhaust, and fuel system from gas to methanol and maybe more for street driving and racing.

Tough little engine, but more displacement 1.1 liters and more boost pressure at a higher volume means more power so I don't see your point. There don't seem to be too many specs on the 2JZ in the Titan Supra but the most exotic part seems to be the billet crank, which is necessary to create the stroker. The rest of the parts seem to be be available off the shelf. A production block is used with upgraded studs and billet main caps.

The chassis setup is crucial in launching a drag car hard. Until you've driven a drag car that can literally shake the tires off the line with a dozen adjustable antisquat settings on the suspension links, spring changes, 64 high and low speed compression and rebound settings on the drag shocks, tire pressures down to the 1/10 of a psi, and the list goes on.

dude stop pulling my leg

there are systems that let you modify boost pressure, wastegate pressure and BOV pressure

they have been used for years in airplanes and industrial diesel, and all of them are related because they use pressure sensors in the mainfold to understand what the fuck is happening on a boosted engine

related to the discussion a boost controller will let you modify boost levels, the BOV and wastegate pressure and will let you run lower psi to reduce the strain of a modified engine while driving it normally
