Hey /o/ anyone here with good experience on honing cylinder walls ? I am looking to build a 4g63t and I am offered this block for very cheap.
My question is : Is it possible to get rid of that kind of rust without having to bore out the engine ?

Is it that worse ?

If you can clean it up with a ball hone you might be able to use it.
But it's not likely.
OP, just put the engine together and forget about that rust. I few minutes of running and that rust will be long gone.

A brass brush will remove the rust without damaging the cylinder at all.

>rust
what?
Did the engine have water in it?
Those are carbon and combustion deposits.
You need to measure the bore to see if it's okay to use, if it's ok then hone it and throw new shit in it.

It was open and then stored without protection.

>Take block
>Throw it away
>Bolt head onto 4G64 block
You're welcome, anon. Feel free to keep the '63 crank if you want to build a high revving destroker.

>not paying to have it decked, honed, and dipped
Jesus, you people should not be allowed to work on cars.

Nigger just looking at those walls it's clearly in need of an aggressive hone an the minium. Stop being a DSM jew and do it proper. jafromobile on youtube will set you straight on.

I would be paying this block 200$ how much am I looking at to get it decked honed and dipped in a machine shop ?
>>14130753
>wasting money on shit that may not be necessary because too incompetent to take measurements
Thanks for keeping shops like mine in business.
>>14129545
I would hone it. Looks mostly like surface rust.
>>14129545
the rust isn't an issue you have vertical scores and you need to feel how deep they are that determines whether a hone will do or if a rebore is needed
>>14130788
from $300-$1000 depends on the shop and what you want. Call and ask them. Better to pay to get it done right than have a shit engine.
>>14130798
>may not be necessary
ANY engine that has been sitting forever should have that work done. Poorfag.
>implying you know anything about engine work
Your a shit tripfag.
>hurr wasting money by honing it
>I would hone it based on pictures
dat retardation.

I know too much about this engine for someone that doesn't own one or have even seen on in real life, thanks Jafromobile
that looks like a bit more than mere surface rust from sitting during a rebuild so i probably wouldn't. that said for mid-season refreshes i've honed 300-600 hp dirt track engines with a harbor freight hone on a cheap drill press many times with good results.
