How do spark plugs work? Why is there porcelain involved?
>>
>>14129150
Do I look like a google
>>
They spark. In an environment of extreme heat. Porcelain is stronk in heat and does not conduct undesired.

Porcelain is an exceptional isolator.

Exhibit A: Hopefully every power line in the world.

wikipedia is too long, figured you guys could give me the gist

Electricity comes in jumps gap, making spark.
Ceramic for insulation.
Quit being a lazy faggot.
Nigger
>>
>>14130115
so how does the sparking part work then? also what is that thing between the ceramic and the gasket made out of ?
>>
>>14130148
The outside part is grounded to the engine. The inside part is mostly copper with maybe some special fancy material if you pay extra.
>>
>>14130148
Like your fucking BBQ lighters when they have empty fluid.

Magic

The threads?
The spark is from the arc from the electrode to the ground.

They teach you how electricity works in middle school anon.
>>
>>14130227
didnt teach us about spark plugs tho
>>
>>14130241
Don't they teach you about how switches and fuses work? We got to go visit a 500kv substation watch them make Jacobs ladders when they pulled the switches.

>Wikipedia is too long

Typically Wikipedia IS the gist of it.

heh, you'd be surprised...
>>
>>14130148
Fuck loads of electricity overcomes the infinite resistance of thr air and arcs.
>>
>>14129174
They use other types of glass in some applications.
>>
>>14130171
you mean the outside part of the middle part is grounded to the engine?
>>14130179
dont have a bbq
>>14130183
figured
>>14130262
no not really
>>14130300
could you explain this? mostly the arc part like the other guy mentioned...the arc in the spark plug sparks the engine?
>>
>>14130334
>no BBQ lighter
Same as a taser, we're done cunt.
>>
>>14130148
>How do sparks work

nigga it's electricity

jesus christ
>>
>>14130334
The Arc is akin to a lighting bolt.

Maybe you should quit now while you're ahead, you seem to be easily confused by simple concepts.
>>
>>14130300
>the infinite resistance of thr air
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH STOOP
>>
>>14130339
dont have a taser either lmao, what are you getting at here

what?

dude what

When a large potential difference is applied across a small gap, it will create an arc. Problem is, the battery will only supply a max of 12v. The ignition coil of your car is an inductor. Take pic related as a simplified example. The switch in pic related is typically closed when the spark plug is not firing, a 2 amp current keeps the inductor charged. When the ECU wants to fire the spark plug, it will open the switch. Current from the battery will no longer flow but the inductor will resist the change in current and try to keep that current going as long as possible. Because the left side no longer completes a circuit, that current will try to flow through the spark plug instead. The wire that goes from the coil to the spark plug has very high resistance, like 20000 ohm. From ohm's law, that 2-amp current being forced through a 20000 ohm wire will be at a voltage of 40000 volts, enough to create a healthy arc across the spark plug gap.

>>14135017
where's the gap? you mean between the spark plug and the battery?
