Let's have an SUV thread

Just got this 2000 Disco for $2300, no leaks and runs pretty smooth. How bad did I do?

Alright, what's wrong with it?
If there really isn't anything wrong, then you got a pretty good deal. I see pretty trashed ones going for ~10k down here.

Have had this for nearly 7 years, since high school. No real reason to upgrade. It's been so damn reliable, except for the transmission needing a rebuild at 140k miles. It's spent more time off road than a LOT of Jeeps and lifted trucks.

Why so expensive? They go for half that in britain.

Does yours have the SOHC or OHV 4.0? I had a first gen 5spd 2WD Explorer Sport, I know what you mean about being able to whip it. Also, the thing was a rain/snow drifting champ.
>>
>>14126044
lol where the fuck do you live? I'm in Texas a 2000-2004 is cheap as shit.

OP you did OKAY considering it has problems that should be fixed. But you didn't get ripped.

SUVs are wagons, though.
>>
Is the Discovery's reputation for unreliability just a meme or is it really that bad?
>>
>>14128387
4.0L ones are ok, but they leak. I think the Disco II had Bosch electronics with the 4.0 at one point, so you don't have to deal with Lucas crackhead engineering, but maybe not. The 4.6 is a total piece of shit that will crack liners and should be avoided at all cost.

>you respond with le gm memes
>when he asks you to post a better, faster suv you post a highly modified rally car saying 'hurr this is faster' which it isnt anyway and even if it was comparing stock to modified is apples and oranges
>when you finally get it through your retarded fucking head that the rally car you posted isnt stock your response is 'hurr well the stock one can also rally'
Um sure? I don't even understand what you're trying to get at here
>>
>>14130491
All right, I'm not the guy that responded to any GM posts or anything but I'm gonna stop you here. That Pajero Evo IS NOT highly modified by any stretch of the imagination and isn't a rally car. It's, for all intents and purposes, stock. The T2 Dakar class would see it that way, and you should too. Changing tires and putting lights on it doesn't mean anything. Not that I care about comparing it to the TBSS because they're two different cars. The TBSS can't go off road.
>>
>>14130516
are you suggesting a lift and swamppers dont improve its capability off road?if you are seriously suggesting that makes it basically stock then you are incredibly wrong.
i completely agree with you though comparing the tbss and the pajero doesnt even really make sense theyre totally different

Re-spool that winch and re-spool it in a more neat fashion. You are going to need to put a load on it while you are spooling it in as well, cable looks very loose on the spool. The cable can become pinched when it is wound up all fucked up like that or it could come off the spool permaturely when it is loose as well.
>>
>>14130528
>are you suggesting a lift
It's not lifted.
>wamppers
They're BFG Mud Terrains.
>dont improve its capability off road?
If it does, so what? It's stock. Coilovers, if it was lifted which it is not, are not highly modified. Changing tires isn't highly modifying a car, either.
>>
>>14126025
I'd change:
>the oil and transmission fluid
>the filters and the plugs
And pray it doesn't break.
>>
> SUV thread
> arguing about lap times.

you're doing it wrong, ese
>>
>>14130833
also, other than body mods, that Dakar Pajaro looks like it could be stock.

Stick some lights, fender flares and maybe some coilovers on any street legal GM vehicle, then have fun at Dakar. On the bright side, your wheels won't fall off very far from the starting line. So you'll have a shit day, but you probably won't die.

Checking this out tomorrow, what do you guys think? It looks pretty clean for the year, sucks it's automatic, is the exhaust leak much to worry about? I don't have a garage or the tools to fix it myself (just moved), how much do you think a shop will charge me?

My Z pisses in your SUV's intake, fuck off queer.
Go ahead and benchrace. I've owned more vehicles than you've seen years, and I was thoroughly underwhelmed by any SUV. The interior is 90s KIA tier too.

They are what got me interested in sports coupes again, but they are a letdown in reality. And I am a SUV fanboi. The 370z blew any SUV away in the feels dept, that's why I bought one instead.

The 370z has Jap class with muscle acceleration, and the handling characteristics you'd expect from a traditional two seat rwd coupe making 330+hp at the crank.

You fell for the meme, while people who actually like cars and driving chose any number of quicker sharp handling cars in the price range.

Pretty nice OP, good deal considering it's got some nice A/T tires on it already and all. I know absolutely nothing about those trucks aside from hearsay. I do know that they are incredibly capable and look great.

My '96 4Runner. Undercoated in preparation for winter here in Indiana but I haven't bothered putting snow tires on yet, given the warm weather we've had so far.

Point taken, I wasn't looking close enough attention. Still, bumper and winch on it already, that's like $1k atleast all on its own.
