At least pick a relevant engine to pick on.

What's up Alphonse?
>>
>>14123344
displacement, cylinders, year, price and NA or FI are all that matters.
>>
>>14123358
Not even, I own a 2003 impala. The engine is reliable and provides a torquey response but desu it's pretty obvious it was not a top motor at the time, just serviceable and reliable.

What the hell, Honda?

Gotta pay to play, and its worth it with Hondaâ„¢
>>

Valvetrain type matters as well. OHC engines in general make more power.
Besides, GM beat the 3800's output in 1991 with the LQ1 3.4L V6

my bro is getting a 2004 Odyssey for free from his parents and I believe he said that the trans is going out. should he be scurred?

That's my point. Yet, they were still using the 3800 series 2 until 2005. When they should have upgraded it or replaced it.
>>
>>14123417
They we originally supposed to kill off the 3800 after the 1999 model year and replace it in everything with the shortstar here:
>>14123344
Shareholders pitched a fit though because the 3800 made similar power, was easier to work on, and thousands cheaper to make. And so the 3800 survived while the shortstar was killed.

TLDR: Blame boomers.

No it doesn't. The only thing I forgot was MPGs. So it's

ok. Then comparing a flathead V8 to a modern OHC V8 is a valid and fair comparison.

>except it isn't fair.
>>
>>14123459
Not near as bad as comparing a 5.7L v8 to a 1.3L rotary.
>>
3800 is like a 1950s shitbox engine with some updates here and there

thats what the hell
>>
>>14123465
You mean a 5.7L V8 to a 3.9L rotary
>>
>>14123459
If they're from the same year, same price and being sold along side each other, it's absolutely a fair comparison.
>>
>>14123417
It was the cheapest minivan on the market IIRC. Using old parts was one of the ways they kept it there.

Worth mentioning that the J35 engine is still in the current model Odyssey, still making ~250 hp, 16 years after introduction. Meanwhile GM's minivans have moved to the 280hp LLT.

Not that they're better vans. They're not. But they can tow 3500lbs without voiding the warranty or grenading the transmission, so there's that.
>>
>>14123403
yes. just google odyssey trans failure, itll tell you everything you need to know.
>>
>>14123404

So its like a Subaru.
>>

CONFIRMED

Z06 IS A TERRIBLE MINIVAN

IT'S OVER, GM IS FINISHED
