>want fast car that also has aesthetics and luxury like the M3
>can only afford regular 3 series, or non luxury brand fast car

How do I get the best of both worlds? Fun to drive but also some luxury.
>>
>>14117962
Keen for answer.

In other news I was bored a few nights ago and decided to look at the baseline bmw models the new ones going from 50-90k.

to my surprise 95% of them were 100-140 kw's of power only.

what the actual fuck? i thought they were have been at the 180-230 mark at least but jesus what slow pieces of shit. same for most mercs. amg's and m's are the only performance ones

also thought 325i's were fast as well until i looked at the stats for them
>>
>>14117962
you sound dumb enough to never be able to tell the difference between a "luxury car" and a "non luxury car" so i wouldn't worry about it

inb4 this thread talks about how bmw m3 is not luxury. That is not my point, I don't want a fucking s-class. I just use the word to distinguish what I am looking for. I know I can get a loaded honda that has all the same features.
>>
>>14118018
what?
>>
>>14117962
The Volvo S60R and Audi S4 are probably both worth a look, depending on your budget. Much cheaper than M3s, at any rate.

For something a bit more left field, the Jaguar XJ's reputation for unreliability means that, if you know what you're looking for, you can get some serious car for your money. Woe betide you if you don't, though.
>>
Lexus isf?
>>
>>14118026
I am saying saying that I am not under the impression that a base model 3 series is luxury. However I am using the word luxury to distinguish the difference between buying a "luxury brand" car vs. something like ford or toyota. I am not here to debate the accuracy of whether BMW is actually luxury, I am just using that word to distinguish it from other brands.
>>
>>14118018
You've already gotten your answer. The x35 can fill a budget from $15K, has all the commodities and features of an m3, and is easily made faster. Now go away.
>>
>>14117962

used 335i can be had for 12k with good miles, comes twin turbo, plenty of creature comfort "Luxury" along with 300hp and 300lb/ft tq.
Don't act like that isn't fun to drive.
>>
>>14118065
Need to stick with a sedan for now.

>>14118078
doesn't need to be M, had a ZHP in the past. Just want something less boring.
>>
>>14118047
The s60r is ass to drive, turns like a blue whale, and is so heavy fwd biased it's gross.
>>
>>14118082
sounds like a blast to drive. I am guessing it is cheaper to run/ maintain than an M3 as well
>>
>>14117962

But seriously, buy a used one, get it walnut blasted (Intake Cleaned, ~$400), buy a Oil Catch Can to keep engine clean (~180), then intercooler(~500), downpipes, CAI, Full exhaust if you want, charge pipe if you want, and an MHD Flash Tune(~150) which is now available on all android devices and can be done within an hour with a $20 cable from amazon and you can easily have >400 hp with little money invested apart from price of car.
>>
>>14118086
Get a 3 with some of the sweet optional extras. I had a 3 a few years ago and it handled like a dream. As for the boring part though, it depends on what you consider boring. The looks? The handling? The social status of the car?
>>
>>14118109
its not expensive enough for that, you buy a 7 series or s-class and drive it in the pool after its third issue
>>14118113
wait some more then. the v6 might even get a manual option soon, regardless XE is second best car in its class and easily the best driving. You could consider an IS as well, but that will never ever ever get a manual coupled with a higher end trim, so yeah
>>
>>14118104
starting price isn't too bad. I bet the reliability is terrible though.

Looks like auto only.
>>
>>14118123
they aren't any worse than german equivalents, if anything they're better

v6 might get manual option, just like the v6 f-type
>>
>>14118115
>>14118117
Are these fun with auto at all, or is it manual or bust?

I consider boring is base-trim slow. Also will admit that I prefer a more unique car that I don't see on the road all the time, but that is just icing on the top.
>>
>>14118131
>they aren't any worse than german equivalents, if anything they're better

Jaguar is one of the worst for reliability. I'd sooner trust a Lada built during the cold war than a Jaguar as a DD.
>>
>>14118139
i'd sooner trust jaguar than anything german high end, doesn't mean i'd own a jaguar or any german car out of warranty for that matter tho

Buy a older cts-v with a ls2 or a SHO. They are quick and are comfortable and look decent as well.
>>

I've found autos to be pretty fun but you'll probably here "autotragic" and "slushbox" from the manual people on here. It comes down to personal choice really.
>>
>>14118138
any 300+ hp car is fun provided its not some slow ass shifting 1970s automatic

that being said those autos are fine but disastrously unreliable

If you get one made after 2007 you can do something called an alpina TCU Flash and it makes the auto tranny one of the best I've ever used. Smoothest shifts in an auto I've ever experienced for sure. Stock automatic still isn't bad at all though, and paddle shifters are a little funner than bump shift.
>>
>>14118149
I have a decent job, and an education. I could buy a new M3 cash, but that would be a stupid decision. Maybe when my salary is like 500k.

Autos are fine if you have a nice amount of power and handling behind you and the bigger engine 3's off all that. Also every BMW is RWD, they're completely against the idea of FWD so they're great in that way too.

Depends how fast you need, and how luxurious.
If your okay with a coupe and going a bit smaller, perhaps the M235 if you like BMW
>>
>>14118210
Is that because BMW is starting to make FWD cars?
>>

I have the awd auto version. The awd system is about as good as you can get for electronic systems. Also rwd bias for glorious turns.

It's also probably the easiest car to launch I've ever driven in my life. Jb4(a piggyback tuner) can even help brake boosting for even more hektik stoplight racing

I have an AWD one. The excessive space between the tires and fenders makes it look kind of weird and it's heavier than the RWD.

Currently running stage 1 sport map from COBB. Standing starts are fun because you can floor it and the xdrive puts it down with no slip. Also, I can floor it in pretty shitty conditions and not worry about the tail coming around on me.

As a heads up, xdrive will basically make any front end repair/modification much more difficult.
>>
>>14118429
The excessive space is the only way to get snow chains on it, but lowering the car isn't complicated.

i have a 328i 6mt AWD. It's fun, I like it. It grips really well around tight corners. Suspension is a little soft and floaty on the xDrive cars though.

Do you have a coupe or a sedan? The coupes sit higher than the sedans in the front, it's much more pronounced for some reason.

LOL no. the e92 m3 is rated as one of the most reliable cars bmw has built. the other e9x cars not so much. 335 had pretty terrible consumer reviews for reliability. wouldn't buy one without warranty.

>>
>>14117962
Buy a regular 3 series and badge it up with eBay badges and stickers. You sound dumb enough to not be able to tell the difference anyway.
>>
>>14118054
Except a base model 3 series can be made just as "luxurious" as a 3 series at the top of the range. The only tangle difference between the various models are engines and chassis. And luxurious is a fucking idiosyncratic term, so who fucking cares. Choose a car based on your own criteria and stop searching for validation from others, which is exactly what you are doing here. No matter how much you might vociferate otherwise, you won't convince me that you are not. Fuck off.
>>

>>
>>14117962

>>
>>14127339
is that seriously what you understood out of the post? I am being very candid about looking for something like a BMW and I am using 3 series as a comparison to a loaded accord.

Having learned how to drive on an E46 and also driving Hondas for years I can tell you there a a difference between the two. Just ergonomics and driving feel are not the same. who cares if the brand is also nicer, Bmw are super common in my city. I have plenty of luxury shit that is completely unbranded and you couldn't tell the difference either way.
>>
>>14128104
But that is the same as having a slow 328i, actually worse because it is try hard as fuck. I know you are making a joke but at least put some effort into reading because I said that I want something fast. Try again
>>
>>14129474
A 335 is faster, as luxurious for over $10K less than the m3, and is a regular 3 series

No idea how much those fenders will run you, though
>>
>>14129674
The 335i is only faster if you void your warranty and tune it...

>inb4 you can reflash it to stock before warranty work
If you think BMW can't detect that you've flashed it, then you're stupid.
