My uncle has a TR6. Beautiful machine. British cars were always amazing, go for it OP. Be prepared for routine maintanence though (it's an old car what'd you expect?).

Unless you are already a highly experienced mechanic and a masochist stay away from old British cars. They were pieces of shit new and don't improve with age. They are delicate deathtraps and the ONLY reason to own one is the styling.
They are mechanically obsolete in every way and none of those ways have any charm to counter their frequent and expensive breakage. They were BAD vehicles when brand new, and they aren't new any more. Not idiosyncratic, not sometimes unreliable, but BAD. Their parent companies crashed and burned because they sucked.
You will regret owning one. If you want a small sports car buy something modern and Japanese or German. I have plenty of time wrenching British autos, but fortunately for me they were not mine.

Get a Bentley or Rolls, can scoop one up for 20k, super fun to drive around. Old Healeys, Triumphs, etc. are not good drivers.
Get a MkIV or a 1500. Change the carb for a weber and the distributor for a pertronix. The electrics are piss easy to fix.These cars are simple as shit and there are plenty of parts available.
