I want a vette.
I don't want to plan to do any swaps. I don't want to plan to fuck anything up. I just want a nice stick shift vette in its prime for the best value they're at.

I keep hearing C3s are going up in price, and that chasing after the prime one is bad.
And that C4s are still too much for what they are.

Now, I'm wondering if that's just horse shit. Because chasing down a cheap C5 seems like a pain. Or is it?
I'm willing to drop a chunk of change down for a decent used vette in the kentucky area. Hopefully under 80-100k.

Probably the only thing I'd ever do to it is getting the exhaust note how I want it, and maybe cam it. I'm not that much of a faggot. Maybe enough to have a GM though.

I don't know if cargurus is the best thing to go off of. But I've been getting some prices from it.
I'm obviously craigslist savvy, I just hope there is an anon here with an educated opinion on the 3 vette styles in my price range. And which one is worth getting the most.
I'll be honest though, I have a preference for the C4.
>>
>>14115596
C4s are to much? U wot m8. There's a reason why it's in the sticky. They aren't gonna get much cheaper. They're pretty much at their lowest they'll ever be.
>>
>>14115596
C4's are your best bet. Aim for a 1989-1996 model and you're golden
>>
>>14116279
yup, stick to the earlier spectrum of the 6 gear cars for cheap parts or the later lt1 cars for more oem power.
>>
>>14116300
>>14116279
>>14116269

Thanks guys.
I was wondering if C4s were something to stray away from because they're outperformed by the C5s. If the C5s were worth their price.
It'll be my next car then.
>>
>>14115596
You have 80-100k to play with and you are looking at C3s and C4s? Wtf?
>>
>>14119288
C5s are absolutely worth the price, they are much more modern than the C4 and better in every way (despite what C4 poorfags will tell you on /o/).
>>
>>14119392

You read that wrong.
Under 80k to 100k mileage.

What would you call this look? The non-fastback look? The notchback or coupe look?
Am I to like this look, is it rarer?
I don't care much for it. But I'd certainly like to see some points as to why it's better and what C5s come with it.
>>
>>14119429
Ah ok. Well if you have the money to afford a C5, I'd definitely be looking at those over a C4.
>>
>>14119443
Fixed-roof coupe (FRC).
>>
>>14119443
I don't think its better, just different and rarer. All Z06s prior to 2001 were FRC, but then they started selling the base model as an FRC as well.
>>
>>14119402
Well it is the newer generation. It should be better in every way.
>>
>>14119468
The FRC came first. And then the Z06. The FRC was designed to replace the Camaro, but the C5 was selling so well that they didn't need a cheaper stripper model.
>>
Being able to afford a $15,000 C5 Corvette isn't remotely comparable to being able to afford a $15,000....... Civic... or Jetta... or 3 Series even.

I say go C3. Not as fancy or high tech as a C5, but much prettier and less "mid life crises" like.

>all these engine options for the C3

holy shit why so many
>>
Only boomers think c3/c4 vettes are good.
>>
>>14119564

So I have to do my fucking homework when looking to buy one in the future to get the engine I want.
Probably for a pretty penny.

But seriously, we're talking about a car made from 1968 to 1982.
>>
It really depends on what you are looking for. I think the C4 is garbage which leaves us with the C3 (which is also garbage) and the C5 which is actually good.

So actually just get a C5 sorry for wasting your time.

C3!

Why

>>>>>Side exhaust.
>>
C3 and C4 corvettes are fucking awful cars.

The only people that like them are old fucks who think they're worth 50k.
>>
>>14119564

So you can always post "I know what I got" when you try to sell it.
>>
>>14119564
>1 of 17 produced in 1976 with the ZQ3 with Avocado Green Metallic paint
> $50,000 lowballers will be ignored I know what I have and don't need to sell, so don't bother offering less
>>
>>14119702
That would be impossible though.
>>
>>14119708

I wanted a vette too OP. I decided on a C4. The C4 is the cheapest of them all.

Which isn't a bad thing. If you line up all the corvettes next to each other, the C4 is probably the "sportiest" of them all as well. And plus, the lines are straight out of Initial D- especially the LT1 ones.

You'll probably never find a good manual though, they're like %90 autotragics.

They weigh the same as the newer vettes, have a spine shattering suspension and massive tires. The newer vettes only beat them in pure horsepower and comfort.

notes

1984 is a 200hp shitbox that pulled like .95 g's from the factory. easily the cheapest

85-90 are 250hp shitboxes, if you want one of these get one from 87-90 because this is apparently when they smoothed the kinks out. cheap.

91-96 are LT1 300hp and are the best looking. the most expensive but easily the best. they don't have the shitty 80's interior or weak engine etc
I ended up getting a C3 though I found for cheap.
>>
>>14119564
>>14119583
Like %80 of these are from 68-72 and you'll never find one of those for cheap. between 75 and 82 there are only 1 or 2 engine choices and 1 more for 1982 only a fuel injected one.
>>
bumping for more discussion,
>>
>>14115596
hey Op, i don't know dick about corvettes but the C4 is the best looking one after the C7 IMO and id kinda like to buy one. You know anything about average maintenance costs?
>>
>>14120374
C4s are probably the cheapest vette to maintain.
>>
>>14119769
1972 saw lower compression and mild cams, 1975 was the introduction of catalytic converters, this year and all later year c3s are complete dogs.
>>
>>14120404
If only the 350 small block had an aftermarket.

you know how the driving experience would be compared to a boxster? im looking for a fun toy that wouldn't be a lot to maintain, is kinda unique, and is fun to drive. I also would probably get a convertible. My budget is about 10k (flexible) for initial purchase and 4k per year for maintenance costs. I would only drive it in the summer/when its nice out and garage it in the winter. Is the C4 a good option for me? here is a Porsche for your time
>>
Find a shape that you like and go from there. I really like the mako shark body so went the 79 at a very reasonable price. The fact that it was low mileage and a manual in all original condition sold me on it. Had it for three months and couldn't be happier.
>>
>>14120469
thats a shit picture, here is a better one for you
>>
How reliable and expensive to maintain are C5s and corvettes in general. Been looking at C5s buy I'm worried I'll have to pay mad dosh for parts.
>>
>>14115596
I see many footages of c4 and c5 corvette spinning out shortly after change to second gear
too much torque ?
>>
>>14120469
I haven't driven a Boxster so I can't really tell you how it compares, but it is more than ten years newer than the C4. When compared to modern cars the C4's chassis is very flexible. C4 parts are dirt cheap and engine parts are stocked in every Autozone around. But C4s are old cars and no matter how good of condition you find one it is going to need things replaced.

>>14120479
I autocross my C5 every month and do track days. It has over 150k miles and hasn't had a single problem. General maintenance parts are cheap. Stuff like brakes are even cheaper than the Fbody. But anything that involves the transaxle is going to cost money.

I'm pretty sure c4 vettes are at there all time low.
Just do a bit of research one of the models has head gasket problems. If your a handy man you can do it yourself expect to be wrenching for 2-3 days minimum if you go at it non stop
>>
>>14120577
What? The heads are easy to access in a c4.
Remove intake manifold, egr pipe(s) valve covers, rockers , pushrods and exhaust manifolds, pull heads.

Hard & Expensive is getting a good vette in Spain.
You should be glad they're not expensive in your country.
I'd go for a C5 (I do own one and im happy with it).
Getting shipped from USA a nice kooks headers and X, corsa sport, vararam, transmission cooler, 3'73 gears... (mine is auto though)....
:) Hope you find a good one

This is mine

My C4 is worth fuck all and I still love it
>>
I would personally recommend the C4

They're really nice to drive, great cruiser cars. They weren't made to be fast unless you're getting a 90s C4, it's more of a tourer than a sports car.

I have the gutless 84, but it still has enough go to be entertaining. Don't let stats and numbers make you think a car or engine sucks.
