Having sat in a few S-classes(granted, not the newest ones), I think a loaded Denali or Laramie is pretty much on par, with more interior room. Maybe it's in between the last and the newest generation.
After propane conversion, the fuel cost is identical to said Smart car. Smarts run about 20km/l, trucks 5-8km/l, and LPG is about 25-40% of the price here. However, pickups have zero (€0,-) taxes here, while the Smart car pays about 500-1000 euros a year, depending on fuel and exact weight. Meanwhile, the pickups also get some nice financial bonuses like quick depreciation and such, making their running costs extremely low. Lower than a city car for most businesspeople anyways.
