If i tune my ecoboost mustang will it explode? like, i foolishly bought one but i have never trusted american quality and trying to make it crank out any additional power kind of terrifies me. i feel like it'll blow a hole in the block or something if i try and churn 40 extra ft/lbs of torque out of it.

I will never get why there are people who buy 4 cylinder Mustangs.

That's like going to McDonalds and eating a bowl of salat.

Isn't buying a Mustang about obscenity anyway?
Why would you buy an American muscle car without the Murrican muscle inside?

If you're able to buy a new car you could just wait a little longer and get it right.
If you're not able to afford a new car you shouldn't get a new car in the first place.

How this turns out is being nicely demonstrated by the OP

I got the '15 Mustang GT with the performance addons. So I got the V8.

>1st gen Mustang was an I6
>4cyl is twin turbo
>Can easily add a turbo to the V6 and match stock V8

The reason is price point. The Mustang is incredibly cheap. I pay $104 for insurance as a 21yr old guy. for a fucking 420hp+ 2dr coupe thats brand new. It has a steel frame, every comfort option available and its beautiful. A lot of people just want a pretty car. without getting 17mpg like I do.

They have to subsidize the GT, the GT350 and Cobras somehow. And so they have these options because those who are poor, or do not care about cars will buy them up.

Sure it ruins the prestige, but who really cares when you can buy the GT, pay barely anything, get tons of comfort and have performance on par with an M3. And endless parts availability.

I used to look down on V6's and now the I4's but in the end, they're the reason I can afford my V8. I still assume they know nothing about cars though.
>>
they make 4 cyl mustangs? i thought the 6 cyl was the babby one
>>
>>14107762
The Mustang is NOT a muscle car. It's a pony car.
>>
Ask around on forums, I think people have gotten 350 hp fairly safely/easily/cheaply. Don't mind people shitposting, they don't know about the SVO's heritage.
>>
>>14107825
Don't you have a social security check to deposit? The Mustang, Camaro, Challenger and Charger pretty much fit the definition of a muscle car. The technicality over semantics of whether something is a muscle car or a pony car is just asinine
>>
>>14107848
muscle car implies a disregard of handling that doesn't really apply ecoboost mustang
>>
It'll be fine OP, there are a few rolling around with over 500whp with completely stock longblocks

>>14107762
They handle better than the V8 model
They get better city mpg than the V8 model
>They're $6000 cheaper than the V8 model

>>14107820
>twin turbo

No it isn't, it has a twin scroll turbo so it spools very quickly

>>14107823
The V6 is the baby one, the turbo 4 cyl has more power and torque, while weighing less
>>
>>14107848
Thr mustang aas the literal incarnation of the pony car, hence "pony". It's a lighter, smaller car with a smallblock, compared to the big block larger muscle cars. The charger and challenger are the only two true muscle cars left, but pony cars can be considered a subset of muscle cars.

MAP offers a tune for stock i4s with the stock intercooler. Forums have been getting around 60-80tq. People are pushing past 350hp with the catless DP and tune. Ford racing also has the new cams for the i4.

Pretty much the ford racing cam is really nice but you should get an upgraded intercooler, I wouldn't blame anyone for getting the i4 over the v8. The i4 is getting a ton of loving from aftermarket places.
>>
>>14109372
When these cars are super cheap 10-15 years on the used market the aftermarket support is going to be awesome.
>>
>>14109444

Implying there's gonna be any left in 10-15 years... The engine is already stressed from the factory, people trying to add even more power to that are going to blow their shit.

also the fact the torks are available that low... I love the V6, don't get me wrong. But you don't need to wring out this engine to get the powah and to scoot off into the distance.

yes, the V6 is on par at redline. but if you're around town, which we are 90%+ of the time, it's certainly faster.

especially since they put the fuel-economy tier rear differential in the V6s because "Ferd. Fuck you."

The 4 cylinder SVOs are still around. There's still 10+ year old Sti's around. I don't see why the ecoboost won't be around. People don't dial in there tune when they're pushing 400+ and then you get problems. The people who want to use 87 might see problems when they're nearing higher mileage in the future.

Hey OP. look up videos on youtube of the BAMA tune for ecoboost mustang. They add about 40 hp and 80 ft/lbs torque. 80!! Im looking at picking up an ecoboost and that specific tune has caught my eye. So far ive seen bad reviews or blown engines
Its amazing we can add that kind of performance with nothing but a software upgrade. Its a good time to be alive lads.
Also, this does kill the warranty. So be sure to flash it back to the stock rom before you take it to a Ford dealer for service or emissions testing.

Sure but it makes a good of percentage of torque of ideal and a huge percentage in the 2-4K RPM range. It's not all about peak numbers. Peak numbers aren't super important for a street car. Give me usable power under the curve all day.

It's a Mazda engine. All of the basic engine geometry is exactly from the MZR-DISI. It's a 2.3 DISI with updates expected of a 10 year old design. Too bad you're so butthurt by it.
