What the hell is the 3800 recall for? All I keep reading is it for's engine fires after hard breaking.
>>14107263
Wasn't this something about leaky valve covers and then when you brake the oil spills on to the hot exhaust?
Mine has never done such a thing.
>>14107273
So the repair will be valve cover gaskets? That would be sweet since my rear one is leaking
I don't know. I'm not a retard and buy GM products.
>>14107282
then shut the fuck up and don't post in a thread that doesn't concern you.
>>14107279
I think it's a drain tray thingy that diverts leaky oil away from exhaust
>>14107273
It is, there was a bad gasket that would spill oil on the exhaust. Only affected n/a 3800 series 2 if I remember
>>14107273
Yeah it's this.
3800, and all the variants of the Buick V6 for that matter, leak like hell from the valve cover gaskets. And oil pan gaskets. And intake manifold end seals but those don't cause possible engine fires so GM says Fuck You about those.
>Got a 03 Grand Prix for free
>Needs LIM gaskets, valve cover gasket, transmission, some suspension work
>Finish up all the word, put in a rebuilt trans from the internet
>First day driving it around, get the recall in the mail
If it's a valve cover gasket I should be fine since I used FelPro gaskets, right?
>>14107315
If it's not currently leaking then the recall would have no effect. I'm not sure if they're replacing all gaskets regardless or just those that are found leaking upon inspection. In any event, I'm not aware of any gaskets for these things that don't leak after a couple of years so it's just one of those things that should be treated as maintenance and replaced when found to be leaking.
>>14107378
That rear valve cover gasket is not fun to do, nor the the oil pan gasket which is leaking a bit
>>14107279
Have fun changing the rear one. I just finished mine today
>>14107402
I did them with the manifold gaskets. Fucking sucked ass.
>>14107315
Fel Pro gaskets are wonderful. Zero problems with their products ever.
>>14107279
My car is facing the same recall. I read that they only replace the front gaskets though...
I saw this too for my car but I dont give a fuck, I drift it and jump it and go ham but nothing yet. The worst that happens is the spark plug wires fall out sometimes.
Don't mind me. Just dropping off the superior engine
>>14107315
The FelPro's generally don't leak if your prep work is good.
We used to offer two "packages" for LIM gaskets on these at my old shop, (pre Sandy we'd do one of these a DAY).
One was name brand shit for EVERYTHING, with a three warranty on all if it.
One was no-name shit for the everything, about 70% of the cost of the proper job came with a one Week Warranty.
The Cheap gaskets would leak in about 11 months, plenty of station cars got that job done yearly until Sandy drownded them all.
>>14111515
Aluminum LIM gaskets brah. Put these in and forget about them ever failing again.
>Own an 04 grand prix, 143k miles
>Just started leaking
>See thread
Fuck.
Why havent you plebs traded up to a vastly superior 4.3l vortec
Its like you dont admire REAL engines
>>14112337
>trade this V8-based V6 turd for this other V8-based V6 turd
Just get rid of it for an engine DESIGNED to be a V6 to start with.

Leave the pushgods to a cylinder count that matters.

GM realized that long ago and built a DOHC V6 on a pushrod engine block,

Why can't you go a post involving 3800's without shilling another v6 engine. Why can't you just appreciate its merits
>>14113519
The 3800 doesn't have any merits it's a monument to obsolescence and mediocrity
>>14113015
>implying a 3.9L V6 that makes 240hp is impressive
Stolen Recaros confirmed for worst trip on /o/.
GM's v6's didn't start getting good until the HF series.
The 3.8 is gud only because you can't kill it if you remember to occasionally check it's gaskets once every 100k miles.
I love reading these amerifag threads and seeing them argue over which of their Elizabeth the 3rd age old engine designs gets closer to an acceptable displacement/power ratio
>>14113388
I bet you give honda shit despite owning such a shitty barge with the same limits

Stolen Recaros confirmed for worst trip on /o/.
>>14114411
that's quite the GET.
too bad you are clearly projecting your regret
>>14113609
so between all the moments of your misplaced anger and butthurt, you decided to thumb through a thesarus for a few hours to find a couple of big words to post on 4chan to show all these strangers how much you hate an engine that is, after many years, still on the road in a variety of cars withstanding the test of time (usually) and doing it with cost efficiency as well as reliability. i smell a wannabe hipster.
>>14113650
>implying a 3.8L supercharged V6 making 240 HP is more impressive
>>14114131
Nver said the HF V6's wewn't better. But if you're gonna shill a pushrod V6, make it a good one.

what do you have against cam in block engines?
>>14118991
nothing when designed right. When it comes to pushrod V6's, most companies don't put in the proper resources to design a good engine. "Oh just base it on this shit V8 we have" and even when designed as a V6 they don't do the best they can because
>lolv6
The only exception I can find is the 60* V6.

Nah I think anon is right you are retarded. Your posts are indeed proof. What 3 or 4 3800 arguments you start a week? Drop your trip code to start them don't ya? And every time you are shut down cause you know nothing about engines. Wiki's good in theory right? You know the terms but you don't understand them.
