Top Gear has some honest opinions from people who have driven an enormous variety of different cars, but it's all very melodramatic and exaggerated, and the opinions of others are a good servant, but a poor master.
/o/ does indeed contain some genuinely knowledgable, experienced people, but it contains far more of both the well-meaning but clueless and self important morons who think they know far more than they do and will never admit being wrong. Trouble is, you need to know a fair bit to be able to tell the difference, so come here as a beginner and you'll pick up all konds of misconceptions.
Dunno about Initial D - I really need to get round to watching it at some point.
Top Gear is more of a variety show that happens to center on cars. Take it as entertainment with some facts thrown in here and there.
Initial D is complete anime bullshit and that's coming from a fan. If it weren't for First through Third stage, it'd be Dragonball Z with cars basically. Nothing that happens in the show is real.
