I need some help br/o/s.

I have a shop telling me that the labor on replacing the clutch on an AWD car is 13 hours.

Is this correct or am I getting scammed.
>>
They're trying to rip you off.
>>
>>14100934
Then how many hours should it take? Personally, I was only thinking 3-5hrs.
>>
They're right in the sense that 13 hours is what the 30 year old book says, said book being from a time before mechanics had half the power tools and gadgets they have now. They'll get it done in half the time and still charge you the remaining hours if they're dodgy cunts. Ask around at different places and you'll be surprised how much the hours vary.
>>
>>14100890
AWD are dodgy cunts and need a ton of disassembly work

But 13 hours is flat out bullshit, more like 6
>>
>>14100945
I'd guess 5-6 but I don't know for sure. There's no way it's fucking 13 though.

>>14100961
Thanks you all for the advice br/o/s. I really do appreciate it all.
>>
>>14100949
So, I called a dealership near me and they said 7 hrs. A fucking dealership. So, yeah these cunts are trying to gip me.
>>
>>14101139
Well at least you know now to avoid that other joint at all costs, good job.

>>
>>14103158
>mad that OP is boycotting your shitty garage

Get rekt.
>>
>>14103170
Nearly every clutch job at my garage is 16 hours+, and I don't think many 4chan posters come through the door
>>
>>14103199
>16 hours

Fucking how?

Have to take the whole back of the car apart, underbody cover, exhaust, heat shields, braces, hydraulic lines, wiring harness, drop the trans/suspension assembly/torque tube(rwd) out, resurface the flywheel, put in new bearings, new sensors, put it back together, recalibrate all the sensors/go through the bleed protocol on the computer, then drive the car for awhile to make sure everything is back in order. The RWD cars are easier, the mid engine Spiders are particularly bad because on some cars you have to remove the entire top mechanism.
>>
>>14103251
>all that fucking around for a clutch change

And that's why I didn't bother with mine until I had to take the engine out for a swap.
>>
>>14103283
Some clutches take 45 minutes, some take 22 hours + waiting for machine work, which is why the posters in this thread telling OP how many book hours the job is without knowing what the car is clearly don't know what they are talking about

Mazdaspeed 6
>>
>>14103345
Either did the guy at the original auto shop he inquired about.
>>
>>14103345
Literally just pull the k-member and drop the engine and trans.
>>
The shop did my clutch for a 1968 Cutlass in 1 1/2 hours.
>>
>>14103506
If only life was so simple with all cars.
>>
>>14103345
Also, I should mention that I already bought a clutch kit and flywheel and having the shop do the install.
>>
>>14103518

Yeah, it was really nice. Whole installation was $170 plus I got a free beer and got a coupon for 20% off my next visit which I used to replace my windshield.
>>
>>14103572
Shit. I kind of wish I lived where ever the hell you live.
>>
>AWD

lmao
get fucked anon. you brought this upon yourself.

Should have gone with a tried and true 4x4 from GM or Ford.

>But seriously though I feel bad for you. Phone a few shops and ask for some quotes.
>>
>>14103199
You're a fucking retard I had to drop my subframe on my clutch job on my Ep3 on stands and I got the job done in 4.5 hours

Heartbreaker confirmed for full incompetent retard
>>
>>14103632
Now, I wouldn't go as far as to insult another br/o/ over work. Heartbreaker has a point though, a lot of cars can be tricky and are just setup in the most retarded ways. Usually so you'll want to take the car to a dealership / approved shop. Also, time of labor for the more difficult jobs can vary due to what tools / equipment you have available.

So, don't belittle another br/o/ over such trivial things.
>>
>>14103632
I'm a retard because those are the book hours on the jobs I do? Maybe you should call Ferrari and let them know they are incompetent because you fixed your clutch on your Civic in less time than it takes to do one on a 360 Spider.
>>
>>14103678
Oh, don't be fooled. It only takes Ferrari dealerships 2.5 hours to change a clutch. They just charge you for 20 hours.

Nothing's wrong with those bolts. You better clean them and reuse them. Recycle mofo.
>>
>>14103767
What if they're stretchable bolts? Re-using them would be so fucking funny for some and sad for others.

We only use special Italian bolts that look like this
>>
>>14103788
Kind of like Italians themselves, huh?
>>
>>14103788
So, tell me... How do you like having to replace a button on a Ferrari steering wheel?
