It is competition for bikes like the Ninja 650.

Pretty nice, I'd have it over a Ninja 650. Super comfy and a a good weight. My only (mild) complaint is the catfish tail is a little bit ugly, but it looks way better in person.

It's also more powerful than the Ninja, and sounds nicer.

On a serious note though, it'll have to be one of the 650 "adv" bikes from Jap manufacturers.
V-strom, Versys, NC-X, or tenere, or actually a TDM
The V-strom seems like the best compromise and many riders agree as shown by the amount of the darn things on the road.
It's got a reasonably powerful engine, a 19 inch front wheel for offroading, and a ton of aftermarket support for touring. The reported mileage is pretty average though, 4.7 or so l/100km

The versys is a significantly more sporty candidate. It has an inline twin instead of a V, but a 17 inch front wheel and a riding position closer to the handlebars mean that the versys is actually quite fun to throw around corners and is probably the best track machine of the bunch, which isn't saying much but still, it's a compromise.
The reported mileage is even higher, hovering around 5l/100km but in direct comparison it uses a little less fuel which seems to imply that versys riders just have a heavier throttle hand.

In this very thread I've called the NC700X weaponized boredom.
It has like 53 horsepower and is bottom heavy which helps it carry it's weight at lower speeds, but when going fast it does mean it won't lean over quite as easily as the other bikes.
However Sean macdonald has taken it to the track and had fun while Wes Siler took it offroad and said that it actually works pretty well there, as long as you have a pair of TKC continentals.
It's an economy touring bike.
Very well thought out and practical (but it's a Honda, it's to be expected) but not something that will make you spontaneously cum when riding. Doesn't actually need fuel to run. 3.7 l/100km. Simple engine, screw and locknut valves, similar to the Honda fit engine

The tenere is the only thumper I'm considering. It's the least powerful but torquey. I have to admit the only reason I'm taking about it is because it fits my personal criteria. If you're not going to the track and can handle a bit of a buzzy engine, the tenere is built like a tank, but the engine is controversial. It's apparently indestructible, but I have seen one disassembled after 50 000 km and the valves didn't close properly, meaning anything up to a $1000 top end rebuild.
It's still not lightweight and is in no way an Extreme Enduro. In fact, a DR650 may make a much better offroader than a tenere because it's lighter, but needs stiffer suspension
Some anon here (worst Yamaha anon?) got the 660 engine to use 3.5l/100km.

Finally there's the Yamaha TDM. The original "adv" bike, created years before obi wan kenobi took the long way round, it's by far the most powerful, and the only bike in this comparison that actually makes my dick hard. I have no idea about it's track performance but I know it does everything else pretty well. Fuel economy comparable to the versys but with more power, and again, heard of people getting it down to 3.5 l/100km. There's a bit of a cult surrounding the TDM, with people making up myths to make it seem like literal godsend of a bike but I can't honestly verify them. All I know is, I've ridden with someone who has it and I want it

Bonus: I'm actually serous about the cbr250r, but maybe in the Cb300f trim. I've gotten it to use below 3l/100km, and it'd even work well as an economical tourer with saddlebags and a windshield. However It's not for me. I'm 6'1" and that means my back and knees really hate the bike. It's offroad prowess was confirmed repeatedly by me myself, and it's got the best suspension of all the small displacement bikes on the market today. It's a simple shim-valve thumper to work on and will chug along at 70 mph no problem.
Make sure to get one from Thailand though because those made by designated shitting streets are known to explode after 70 000 km

Note: I haven't actually ridden most of those bikes and my experience is mainly from reading the experiences of people being paid to ride, and also some bullshitting. I have thoroughly ridden the NC, CBR, and have experienced the TDM, and tenere (in the XT660R form), so these 6000 or so characters are only worth as much as the opinion of a poorfag polack with less than a year of riding experience.

>>
>>14099142
I'd tone it down to the TDM or the V-Strom. Offroad capability and twin engine for long-distance touring is like the best compromise.

NC/Versys are ruled out by offroading and the CBR250 additionally because of lack of power, being a thumper and comfyness.

the problem with that is
you can find offroad pictures/videos of any bike

So I just go by if the manufacturer says about his bike

>>
>>14099191

We both have to admit that we have no idea what either of us is talking about and that we can agree that if you're gonna do any serious adventuring there's no other option than a carbed 600cc dual sport from the 90s
>>
>>14099204
I suppose you're right, but a manufacturer can write literally anything to sell the bike to dreamy boomers

No it isn't.

Right now? Probably a split between the BMW S1000RR, Yamaha R1M and the Ducati 1299.

Also worth considering bikes like the Lightning LS-218 and whatever Vyrus is selling these days.

I'd take the Yamaha personally, but it's down to preference. I ride an older R1 now though, so I'm biased.

It's lagging behind the others honestly albeit not as bad as the CBR. Had a reputation for abysmal fuel economy too, I've heard sub-20mpg from a few people who owned them. Looks great and sounds wicked though.

IIRC the drz should weight like the xr650r which is 10kg heavier than the 400
>>

none because we aren't looking for a good offroad bike, we are looking for an good all-around bike.
>>

offroadability was one of the points mentioned, wally
if your bike is good for highway use, its 99% of the time going to be a bastard offroad since itll be heavy and hard to deal with, unless your idea of offroad is gravel roads.
myh xr is an all around bike, may even take it on the TAT some day.

Nah not me. The malossi kit was done by one of our customers, only the better pull from down, not bigger Hugh speed. And made problems, seems like it wasn't the best material so it was somehow faulty.

And no point in big bore the wr since I can do my a2 after the sixth January anywaus.

Hard to say how lams actually works, Bikes like the ktm300exc are LAMS approved somehow. (Lams literally means Learner approved motorcycle scheme)

I'm a faggot and I'm really into small bikes.

I was looking at the Honda Grom but it has a pretty big price tag for what it is.

What's a small/scooter-sized bike that can comfortably cruise at 55 MPH without being topped out at max capable revs?
>>
>>14099981
It is better and worse than the old laws. Old laws used to be 250cc bike for 3 months on learners, then another year on P plates before no restrictions.
People were going froma 250 to a litre bike and getting killed so they changed it to the LAMS approved bikes for 3 years and 3 months before you can upgrade to what ever you want.

How does /dbt/ feel about the XT-225 for a starter bike?
>>
/dbt/ is there anything wrong with wearing a full face street bike helmet with flip down visor on a dirt bike.

Also am I a faggot for wanting one of those helmet Mohawks.

Yes, but don't let us tell you how to live your life. If that's what you wanna do, go for it.

Be yourself or you'll regret listening to an anime website looking back on your life from your deathbed.

Comfortable crusting at 55 is a 175cc ish engine requirement. The Grom tops out at 55-60 and that is totally believable with a 125cc engine. If you like small bikes, a two stroke might be wiser. Like a DT-175 or a KE-175, even a frigging 70's cr125m if you got the gumption to put some 6v lights on it.

An XT-225 would be great because, for a dual sport, it is pretty low. Seat height is just a smidge above 30 inches. Gas mileage is decent and it tops out at around 75 mph, so you can easily cruise at 55 mph with a gear left.

They can also be had for fairly cheap. New models are a little over $4k and half that for a used one in decent shape.

Could be worse, When i first went for my learners we were between the new laws and the old laws so we were allowed to ride the new LAMS bikes but still only had the 3 months of learns then 1 year of P plates, i decided to keep my learners for 11 months not 3 months to get more experience before my P test and by time i went for my P's they had changed the laws without me realising so i am stuck on lams for nearly 4 years.

In saying that 2 and a half years in and i am not really complaining about it, i still like my bike.

Pretty sure finding the bikes top speed down a highway is a bit different than the bike limiting your ability in any other area.

I've had my 125 since last august

It is fun to ride in the city and going to muddy places and stuff(forgot the name in english,) glad I got an enduro one.

But when I have to go to another city which is supposed to be 30-50mins away it's a burden, I still feel comfy but the person behind me doesn't and the entire trip I'm going at 90max so its fucking boring unless i'm going a bit downhill to hit over 100km/h

maxed 104km/h with gf on the back, 77+47kg
need to try alone

>I'm thinking about doing a semester at community college to become a phlebotomist.

if you only wanna go for a semester do welding instead

$100k/yr
>>
>>14100248
100k a year welding? Do you have to be on an oil rig for that pay or what are we talking about here?
>>
>>14100248
thats boiler making ya dingbat.
Add working in confined spaces, working at heights, white card, red card, pressure welding and a 4 year long apprenticeship to your studying and yeah ok.
>>
>>14100248
I'm not big on stuff like that desu, I know it sounds lazy of me but I'd rather work indoors and not put my health at risk the way welders do.

>$100k/yr

Not possible anymore with oil prices going down. You'd be lucky to pull in $60k-$70k a year working 70-80 hours a week.

I'm a loser and want to stay in my hometown with my friends and family in central Appalachia making $13 an hour chilling and riding motorcycles and driving cool 80s shitboxes.

I don't want to live near the gulf and spend all of my 20s working.
