Minimum HP that you'd recommend for a standard-transmission beginner?
>>
>>14096524
depends on the weight of the car to be honest.
>>
>>14096524
i miss the 90s
>>
There aint no minimum, fool.
The less power you have as a teenager the better, trust me.

Or maybe you're already grown up and learning manual? Still, a low powered car isn't going to cause any problems unless you're tyring to take off fast from the lights. Repeated hard launched WILL fuck up a clutch
>>
I'm learning on a Ferd with 300lbs of torque, no tach, and a worn down clutch. It's fine. I wouldn't bother looking for an "easy" car to learn.
>>
Standard sized car I'd look for 200+. If it's a light coupe I'd say 150+.
>>

Just wondering if <100 HP is unsafe on the highway for incline starts.
>>
>>14096615
Low power is no problem for incline starts. You just have to give it more revs and watch all the automatic drivers around you stare at you.

Overtaking on the highway is, of course, another story. If you do a lot of highway driving you need something with more ponies
>>
>>14096615
why are you doing incline starts on a highway?
>>
>>14096645
In stop-and-go traffic.

>>14096643
>If you do a lot of highway driving you need something with more ponies
A lot. I'm in Houston.
>>
>>14096573
So I guess the best car for a teenager is a 20hp East German Travant.
>>
>>14096653
why is doing an incline start on a highway any different to doing it in town? are the hills steeper?
>>
>>14096663
Damn straight. They are their own enemy behind the wheel.
>>
>>14096670
>>14096615
Why are there inclines on a highway?
>>
>>14096670
Houston is as flat as Margot Robbie's ass.
>>
>>14096653
Well m8 if it's all bumper-to-bumper traffic the 20 hp Travant will be fine.
If you do need to overtake however, I would recommend something with over 150 hp at least. Not least because of how fucked up people drive these days speeding up when you try to overtake

Thanks!

I d just fine with my 140 HP Saturn.
minimum for passing should be between 110 and 120.

Have passed these with 65hp at over 140kmh.
>>
>>14096524
1hp
>>
You can do 90+mph with less than 100hp in nearly any car
>>
>>14096932
fair enough.
but "at least 150 HP" it total bullshit.
>>
>>14097029
Shit man relax.
My car has only 117 and drive in the city mainly and I don't attempt every overtake I would like to.
Some people actually gun it when you try to overtake, not just subconsciously press harder on the accelerator. Who am I kidding, it's most people...

I chose 150 as a safe number where someone is not going to encounter any life threatening problems trying to overtake
>>
>>14097029
This. Unless its some heavy lump.
>>
>>14097072
The only time I've ever lacked power in my 140 HP Saturn is when douche-bags in sports cars weave through traffic.
>>
I learned in a 2006 Yaris with probably 100hp.

> But I'll stall!

Redline clutch dump.
>>
>>14097010
I got a Ford Ka up to 100mph (indicated, probably 90mph really) and that thing had about 60hp. Fucking terrifying experience.
Pretty much anything resembling a car can do what OP wants, it's not a high bar.
>>
>>14097130
Don't try that in a turbo diesel or you will have no clutch left.
