2003 got a new front suspension for better handling
2004 got a new intake tube for more power
2005 got a new steering wheel surround and electronic throttle
2006 got a tachometer and a new steering wheel.
2008 got flex fuel capability

First, I would get an undercover version if they have one. Otherwise only thing I'd look for specifically is the rear axel. Z5 is the base 3.27 open differential. I'm having a hard time finding specifics to other axle codes but pretty much any other code is better, because it'll mean 3.27 with trac loc or 3.55 with trac loc.

No we don't.
We don't get the VW Transporter, and the smallest VW we get is the Golf. We also don't get Seat or Skoda.

Ain't got nothing on my idle hours. Also expect some little things police to do these things. Like my airbags are disabled, horn doesn't work, lights won't turn on when you open the door (this is a feature from Ford for Le stealthy cop) and your rear doors most likely won't open from the inside.

A Polo or an UP! would be nice. We also don't get the Amarok truck even though it would sell like McDonalds food here.
>>
>>14095165
The dark car feature was from the factory so that would only get reset at a dealer. Horn and airbags is a matter of cut wires or missing airbag sensors. You need the door handle equipment which is simply not installed in police cars, I find them in taxis or regular vics

I think America has a rich supply of good vans. I wouldn't miss it.
>small VW
But they are all shit. If smart has a purpose of being able to park across, than polo is just a smaller golf with the same gas milage and service costs. And I think you have Smart and Fiat 500 right?
>Seat or Skoda.
Those are rebadged VW. I believe a few years ago it was cheaper to buy a skoda with the same specs as VW and for pragmatic people it was a good choice. Nowadays these brands are actually having a competition with one another because of the increased demand for Skoda.

And why would you even need compact cars if your streets are wide enough for pickup trucks? Your parking infrastructure is also very good.

theres a 95 lincoln selling near me. seems in good shape, only issue is one of the rear door handles doesnt work.

carfax was clean that i recall. was 1800 last i checked, now its gone down to 1200. should I? It worries me seeing it at that low a price, really, when most good condition panthers i see around tend to be more in the 2k range, higher for lower miles
>>
>>14095262
Probably just age. Where do you live? Here in the SF Bay Area there's a good amount of livery Town Cars that go on sale so they're pretty cheap. And '95 is almost 21 years old.
>>
>>14095271
NY. I live on the island and am, at the moment, carless. this shit is literally right around the corner from me. its tempting as fuck.
>>
>>14095285
Living in a communist state, it might not pass emissions or something.
>>
>>14095307
i see plenty of mercurys and lincolns around these days with gas so low.
>>
>>14095316
Emissions as in something might be wrong with the car and it won't pass inspection. That's the only reason I can think of on why it isn't selling. Doesn't hurt to look. Lincolns have air suspension and it's known to fail or leak so look if the rear is sagging. You can replace it with normal coils for cheap.
>>
>>14095285
Definitely check it out. As another anon said, it might be an emissions issue that's bringing the price down. I have a 2003 Crown vic interceptor and i'm still good on Cali emissions, so if the cars fine it shouldn't be a problem.
>>
>>14095400
if its an emissions problem, cant that be fixed?
>>
>>14095262
it's probably ok. they probably just lowered it because there's no real interest for these cars. most people want new econoboxes.
>>
>>14095674
It can be, it's possibly an expensive sensor, or something like that which is why is scares people. If you fail the emission test you have to take it to a state emission certified mechanic and it's guaranteed they'll overcharge because you need them to pass again.
>>
get one and do a terminator powertrain swap
>>
>>14095151
A redline of only 5,800 RPM? I though these things had OHC V8s.
>>
>>14095858
They do, but it's a SOHC 2 valve per cylinder variant making only 250 HP from 4.6L
>>
>>14095858
I have no clue. The SOHC 4.6 is kinda pitiful, longevity is it's greatest advantage. the DOHC revs a little bit more stock.
>>
>>14095874
>the DOHC revs a little bit more stock.
Well yea. The Coyote variant can rev to 7 grand, and then there's the flat plane crank version in the new Shelby GT350.
>>
>>14095907
The coyote isn't a Modular engine. Overhead cam engines are supposed to be more Rev happy which is why he's asking how come the redline is 5,800rpm
>>
>>14096005
>the coyote isn't a modular engine

Yes it is.
>>
>>14095757
The complete powertrain out of a Termi is going to cost more than twice what the fedorabarge itself does.

Still, would be cool to do.
>>
>>14096005
Last I checked, the Coyote was an evolution of the modular engine family.
It's like the difference between the Gen 2 GM V8 and the gen 3.
>>
>>14096025
>>14096018

This. Same tooling, parts interchange, it's just an updated design.
>>
>>14096024
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTN7cjyfZAk
>>
>>14096045
There actually isn't much interchange between them from what I can find, hence why I made the analogy of the gen 2 GM V8 (also known as the LT engine series) and the gen 3 GM V8 (the LS series).
>>
/o/ please answer me this.

From what I have read on the internet panther enthusiasts rate the 04 as top tier because it is the last year before DBW and has the upgraded suspension + all the goodies.

Is DBW really such a determining factor that I should get an 04 p71 instead of an 08 or 09 for 1k more?
>>
>>14096421
Lot of small parts swap over. Rods too.

>>14096433
I have an '03. I'd say the top thing to focus on when getting a panther (aside from the basics like not being completely beat to shit) is to make sure you get a trac-lok rear end the heavy duty suspension package.
>>
>>14096433
I really don't give a fuck either way. Depends on what you're comfortable with. I don't see DBW as such a deal breaker

If you plan to engine swap for a 4.6 DOHC then I would consider the 2003 or 2004, otherwise I'm satisfied with the DBW and have no lag issues. Coyote swap is the new thing in town and that's all dbw.

X5 is trac-loc. You have to be careful though because the axle could have been swapped. Your best bet is to crawl under the car and check.

This is how it played for my car
>Like my airbags are disabled
Turns out the sensor under the passenger seat was disconnected
>horn doesn't work
blue wire under the dash in the center
>lights won't turn on when you open the door (this is a feature from Ford for Le stealthy cop)
"Dark Car Mode" needs to be disabled at the dealer for 2006 and newer but on all other cars there's a jumper under the dash. 2005 it's under the steering wheel, all others I believe are under the glove box.
>your rear doors most likely won't open from the inside.
There's supposed to be a kit zip-tied to the car in the trunk somewhere. The PD probably removed it. I got mine from a junkyard vic. I just peeled the doors apart with a multitool and, instead of rivets, I used small bolts and a bunch of nuts and washers. It works great.

>>14095224
Airbag light is on. It blinks a code when you first start the car then it stays steady.

>>14096433
Sometimes it's pretty annoying when the car can't decide what gear it wants to be in. DBW helps but since the trans is still computer controlled, it still happens.

Also, forgot to mention, there should be three bulbs in the dome light (not the "ticket light" which is the bright-as-the-mother-fucking-sun bright). It is entirely probable that instead of enabling "Dark Car Mode" they just pulled the bulb. You can tell this by whether the open door chime sounds when the drivers door is open with the key in the ignition.
>>
>>14098713
>blue wire under the dash in the center
what about it?

>Airbag light is on. It blinks a code when you first start the car then it stays steady.
oh ok. thanks. I think mine are working. I don't think mine was actually a used by police. I think it was a security or government car.
>>
>>14098729
You can test the dome light by using the instrument panel dimmer wheel, turn it past full brightness and it turns on the dome light. Opening the doors or trunk shows the door open light on the dash but only chimes if it's the rear doors that open. I personally like the dark car feature, I like that the car doesn't chime for leaving your lights on or not wearing your seatbelt either.
>>
>>14098742
>blue wire under the dash in the center
>what about it?
Sorry, there was a blue wire spliced into the steering column that ran into whatever computer as a bypass. I literally spliced the blue wire into itself and it worked fine.
>Airbag light is on. It blinks a code when you first start the car then it stays steady.
>oh ok. thanks. I think mine are working. I don't think mine was actually a used by police. I think it was a security or government car.
Sorry, the airbag light should turn off after a few seconds if everything is working properly. I haven't tested this theory but that seems to be the common conclusion.

>>14098750
My car doesn't have a door open light (2005). Or maybe it does and it's burnt out since one of the switches is either broken or wired to be open constantly. My dome light physically did not and still does not have a light bulb in it.
