> One of the biggest issues faced by the motorcycle industry is the difficulty of capturing new riders in new segments. Adding more new 50-year-old dudes on Harleys is great and all, but the industry won’t grow if it doesn’t figure out how to sell bikes to women and young people. It must be doing something right, though: while still not a huge number, female motorcycle ownership is higher than it’s ever been.
>The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) data shows that women make up 14 percent of the total motorcycle ownership, a number that’s been steadily on the incline since it was a meager 8 percent in 1998.
>What’s even better news, although unsurprising, is that the numbers skew to the younger generation. When broken down by age, women make up 17.6 percent of motorcycle owners 18-35, 17 percent of owners 36-50, and only 9 percent of owners 51-69.
> Cruisers made up 34 percent of the women riders, while 33 percent of them opted for scooters. Only 10 percent owned sportbikes. The last 20 percent or so was a mix of standard, adventure, and off-road motorcycles.
>For those of you who are dealers out there, it’s interesting to note that women listed “fun and recreation,” “sense of freedom,” and “enjoy outdoors/nature,” as reasons for riding, and cited test rides and fuel economy as two of the biggest factors when buying a bike. Oh, and 57 percent of women riders prefer new motorcycles over used ones.

Thoughts on this, lads?

Only problem I see is the chick in that pic isn't riding me.

That's because she only rides black motorcycles.

I don't think about it much really. I just now had a thought about maybe beginning to think about it, but decided not to. Maybe I will think about it tomorrow. If this post is still here. Otherwise I will forget to think about it completely. Probably.

scooters are just a subset of motorcycles, right? Like how a corgi is a type of dog...

I thought young people already made up a fair amount of motorcycle sales.

Doing things every one else already does but with no spatial awareness, hand eye coordination, or instincts.
I'm always impressed when a girl knows how to do stuff.

>>14093363
Why do you think statistics aren't newsworthy?
Video games ones are bad because video games are for children and caring for "journalism" about video games means you're either making money off them or you're a manchild/literal child.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Don't tell me how to live my life!

I'm afraid such increase in sales is not related to industry efforts but women taking their freedoms to another level while riding scooters and cruisers in the process.

More people buying bikes because of rising gas prices and easier to move through congestion in most first world shithole cities.

Not surprising.

Oh wait I forgot the purpose of copies post was to lure out r9k replies.

Easier regulations would help a lot

In Europe we have four(!) different bike licenses.

Weakest one allows you just 50cc, next is just 125cc, next is 48HP/35kW and then finally the last one is unlimited.

All of them are expensive, especially the weakest one as it isn't even counted towards any of the others so you'll have to repeat any and all lessons AGAIN.

Just replace this dumb structure with two different licenses and a minimum age of 16 for the weaker one and MAKE IT CHEAPER. That alone should help a lot.

We need more positive role models for female bikers like these girls
>>
>>14093342
Cool. Girls on motorcycles are hot. In fact I would go so far as to say I have never seen a fat or unattractive woman on a sport bike in my life.
>>
Need to get lane splitting legal in the USA.

Get some 400-600 cc UJM bikes in the American market that cost less than $8000.

Then sell bikes as not only fun, but also a time and money saving way to commute to work.

This.
50cc can be also driven with a car license and 125cc also has the 11kW limit. Thats why old unrestricted Cagiva Mitos and such are increasing in value. There are also age limitations to different displacements. I got my motorcycle license at the age of 27 as an addition to my car license. Now my license is only valid till 2033 when it needs to be renewed. My car license used to be valid until 2056. However, I must agree on the prices being ridiculous. 800€ for unlimited bike addition to my license is pretty cucked, as it is as much as I paid for my car license in 2006 in the first place. I could have completed the license in Estonia instead of Finland for a fraction of the price, but it would have required some arrangements.

That's because right now most people who ride are doing it to "fuk da law" just a little. Believe me when I say, the more normies ride the less annoying the average biker becomes. I ride because I like the sense of freedom and taking the life in my own hands as well as the less pretentious "because I love riding ".

I don't have a loud exhaust, I don't pass on double yellow lines, I don't ride like a cunt, I only filter at below 15 mph delta V. I have done some stupid things before but I owned up to them and now I ride like a good citizen.

What literally happens with Ducati monsters is the Husband buys a Ducati 1098, the girl friend likes going out on the bike but hates the sore bum and eventually he convinces her to get her license and he buys her a Ducati monster.
>>
>>14095441
It'd be a great bike if it was water cooled and didn't require $300-600 valve adjustments every few thousand miles

But its not so I'd rather have a SV650. I'd put up with the valve adjustments if it was water cooled. It sounds great, makes the right noises and looks stunning.
>>
>>14100053
Nothing wrong with air cooled engines unless you only ride through traffic jams.
>>
>>14100146
And the summer, buddy of mine hated his 796, apparently it would "cook his balls". The heat gets radiated through the tank and sides.
