How to clean her up /o/?

I had an oil leak from the top side of my engine. Timing chain collar support screw came loose to be exact.

Cannot see it obviously, but it's pretty grimy from the oil.

can someone please explain the benefit of warping your headers in heat tape?
>>
>>14091360
Keeps bay temps down, far better then the heat shield itself does.

I believe most tests put it around 150F cooler overall.

>TFW your car is hugely unreliable, and you can't get to the engine or battery until the new locks you ordered arrived.
>>
>>14091381
I'm not sure what sort of answer you want here. but since you can't figure it out.

Heat is bad for air intake, lowering the temps means cooler air inside. It also means all components in the bay are at lower stress for heat temps. meaning possible longer life.

It's an all around win situation as long as you have stainless steel headers.
>>
>>14091401
why stainless can they cause rust?
>>
>>14091408
Yeh itll rust out headers really fast.
>>
>>14091408
If you use something like mild steel it will cause surface rust, pretty much you take the lifetime of your headers down from say 12 years down to 10 years before if you race them.

Most of the complaints people give about "wrap ruins your exhaust" is people thinking surface rust is bad.

>>14091416
>really fast
no it doesn't, it speeds up the process, but it's no where near "fast".
>>
>>14091420
thanks man super helpful just starting to get into modding cars and such was wondering about this for a while
>>
>>14091420
To further this, The rust thing comes because water can get trapped between the wrap and the pipe. place it rains a lot of if you wash your bay.

If you live in a dry place it won't effect your car for shit.

If you live in a place it snows, well you are fucked either way.

>>14091432
No problem, just give this sort of thing a google search and read a bunch on anything you might have. There is a lot of websites that love to just spout off none-sense so you might have to dig to get your answer.

damn thats louder than I thought it would be.
did you bore gauge the mains are they still square?

dont know anything about that engine, seems like pretty good price though with the partial loom and accessories all there
>>
>>14090558
It will pop the shit out of you son. Go pull a boot, stick your finger in >>14091591
and have someone crank it.
>>
>>14091666
I haven't really gotten to the mains yet. The engine has been rebuilt before and has .020 over pistons along with the journals being .010 under. I haven't taken the crank out yet to measure the mains.
The thing that I've found that's kinda weird is that the top ring has a ring gap of .024 which I've read is around the right size, but the middle ring is only .010 which is supposedly way to small from what I've read.
>>
>>14091688
yea it can break lands if its too small and dig into the bore
seems like a lame oversight. corner cutter builder or what might explain why it bent a rod.

The bearing took the beatng while the crank journal still seemed to be in great shape.
All of the cylinders still look to be in great shape also with fairly new hone marks in them from whoever rebuilt it. I'm still going to take out all of the other pistons to resize all of the rings since I also plan to turbo the engine with a diesel turbo I got and rebuilt from a junkyard.
