let's have a talk about winter tires
>do you use winter tires or all season ones in winter?
>experiences and opinions about specific winter tires?
>funny stories about not having winter tires where you probably should have?

question: does anyone have experiences with nokian wr d4? I'm thinking of buying a set, I need new winter tires
>>
>>14087767
Nokians are probably the best. If you get icy conditions and can legally use studded. Do.

Hankook I pikes are my second choice .
>>
>>14087826
I can't get studded ones sadly
>Nokians are probably the best.
are all of them good or only the more expensive ones?
I'm considering pic related, they are 65€
>>
>>14087767
I have winter and summer tires. Winter tires really are the best option for driving in winter. All season tires are mediocre at everything. Its an extra up front cost, but fuck do i love being a bit more confident in inclimate weather.

yeah that's also why I'm buying some winter tires, I don't have to worry about shitty tires

That looks like an all season. Make sure it has the snowflake symbol.

M+S just means it is possible to drive on muddy dirt roads and light snow. With some traction
{*} snowflake means it is designed for continuous operation on ice and snow.

Canadian here. If you get snow, then winter tires will definitely make a difference over all seasons. My favourite winter tires are Blizzak and Nokian tires.
>>
>>14087864
in the ad it has a snow flake, and it says it has the Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake symbol
Does this one look more suitable for snow?
I don't have much knowledge about the treads

>>14087926
ok thanks I will look for them too

D4 is a continental-Europe class winter tire, and one of the best in its class. In its class it has perhaps the best performance on ice and snow, but due its design the performance on tarmac (both wet and dry) will be less than its competitors like the General Altimax Arctic and ContiWinterContact TS850

Mind you, these are studless tires meant for the mid-European and american market below the northernmost states and Canada. Their grip on the slipperiest surfaces like ice will still be lacking a tad

Are ws80 blizzak the best? I want to buy a full set

ok thanks
in my area they put quite a bit salt on the roads, but sometime it also snows a good amount
So it'll maybe be equally distributed between dry road, wet road, snow slush and snow
so most of the times a mix between wet and snow
what would you recommend for that, the ones you already mentioned?
>>

Where are you located?
What site are you using to look for tires?
What size?

Alright, look into these;
>Goodyear UltraGrip 9
>Nokian WR D3/D4
>Continental WinterContact TS 850
>Michelin Alpin A3

These are the ones I know and can safely recommend for the type of terrain you'll be going up against. With the equally distribution I think perhaps the Continentals would be the best tires for you
