How are Scions quality-wise /o/? I'm looking to buy a used tC but I don't know much about cars. I want a 2-door coupe and so far I like the styling of the tC more than most other cars. I'm open to suggestions though. I have about 9k$ saved up and will be able to get around 11k$for my current car. What coupes should I look at?

Nah breah there burty gud petty much a sporty camry and you'll beat most civics

Also you'll be able to stomp any Subaru. Like easily. And if u put some adjustable coilovers on it you can rally that bitch and stomp subarus on dirt

It's a camry with a different body/badge

They're just JDM Toyotas with a different badge and the steering wheel moved.

Nah, as long as you are careful. Also, there was a recall to get them fixed at any dealer.
>>
So what I'm getting from you guys that aren't memeing (I think) is that its basically a re-branded Toyota. Which doesn't sound like a bad thing so far.
>>
Also thank you to everyone who gives this thread a serious reply.
>>
>>14088785
It is. ALL Scions are essentially rebadged Toyotas. The only one that isn't is the new Scion iA, which is a rebadged Mazda 2 sedan.
>>
I own a 2014 tC. I love it. It hits a certain sweet spot. Sportier than an economy car, though not an all out sports car. Means you can have fun and still be practical. The liftback is nice, I like it better than a standard trunk. Overall, just know what you're getting and don't expect it to be something it's not.
>>
just get a brz

>>
>>14089535
If you're looking at a Scion tC, you're clearly not looking for an all out sports car. You want something decently quick, and handles well with a USEABLE back seat. The rear hatch is more practical than the Toyobarus trunk.

And the 2.5L engine in the tC, despite being less powerful (180 HP) than the 2.0L (200 HP) of the Toyobaru, it makes much more torque, which makes it's quicker in the real world and on a track.
>>

That, and the LED 3rd brake light burning out are pretty much the only non-wear items I had to fix on my 2007. The light I fixed by drilling a hole, and then cramming an LED strip into the space in the assembly. The hatch garnish got fixed in the recall campaign.

OP you should seriously consider this car. I have almost 105,000 miles on mine with virtually no trouble, and it is by far the easiest car I've ever worked on. It's a good compromise of performance and usability.

It's the best car I've ever owned.
>>
>>14088076
From the Avensis, I think. The Euro-Camry. Not much fun to drive.
>>
>>14085117

The tC is a Toyota in every single way except badge. They're dead fucking reliable. Fun enough, extremely practical for a coupe, decent gas mileage, don't look too shitty. They don't excel at anything but they don't really fail at anything either.

You can get 2010's with like ~69,000 miles for around $10k.
>>
>>14089526
You can bargain a Subaru dealer for a BRZ, you can't with a Scion.
>>
>>14091194
>>14089526
because on the lot the BRZ is the same price and the salesmen will negotiate.
scion has a strict "no negotiation" policy for people who can't into haggling.

Consumer Reports test many cars in 2015 and they think these are the worst:
<Japanese Shortlist>

Toyota Yaris: Yaris remains a slow, noisy, and tinny subcompact with a choppy ride and an awkward driving position.

Scion tC: Question: When is a sporty car not sporty at all? Answer: When it’s the Scion tC.
The Scion tC’s stiff suspension and heavy steering shouldn’t fool you into thinking this is a performance machine. Handling is entirely humdrum, and even smooth roads produce a jarring ride.

Mitsubishi i-MiEV: Some electric cars have impressed us (Tesla Model S, Ford Focus Electric, Nissan Leaf), but Mitsubishi’s lackluster effort somehow feels short-circuited in contrast. It’s not even because its meager 59-mile range and a six-hour recharge time. It’s that the ride is horrendous, acceleration is painfully slow, and the i-MiEV comes with an antiquated interior with fit and finish that feels decidedly third-world cheap.

Mitsubishi Mirage: The Mirage is powered by a small, vibration-prone three-cylinder engine. Handling is so clumsy, it feels scary. To lure customers, Mitsubishi primed the pump with a rather impressive list of standard features. But the car is far too slow and noisy, even for a cheap subcompact.

•Lexus NX 200t/300h. The new compact SUV edition form the Lexus line seems too much to Consumer Reports like the Toyota RAV4, especially the "jostling" ride. Some components feel cheap, and overall it falls short of German competitors.
>>
>>14093499
Sorry to burst your bubble, but FWD is far from a sports car.
>>
>>14093603

>>
>>14093687

No one here explicitly stated the tC was a sports car. The only thing really said is that it uses the same type of suspension front and rear as the FR-S sports car, which it does. But so does the new Scion iM. The tC is decent fun and can be properly fun when modified.
>but the car should be fun stock!
except that modifying a car IS THE ENTIRE FUCKING POINT OF SCION IN THE FIRST PLACE! It's what built the fucking brand to start with.

No it doesn't. If I describe myself as athletic because I'm a runner, does that mean I think I'm a "partial athlete"?

Clearly exaggerating, or else every "sporty" feature would be related to the car's drivetrain, and steering/tires/height would be irrelevant.

The Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge Stealth were Mitsubishi's flagship sports cars in the 1990's. AWD, twin turbo V6, and active aero.
But that's the top of the line models. The base models were FWD with either the N/A 3.0L V6 or the 3.0L twin turbo V6. Either way, all 3 variants were classified as sports cars.
