I have around 50 scrap vehicles, 150 scrap auto batteries, 50 catalytic converters, 100 aluminum rims, I had been attempting to run a salvage parts business the last few years but I never could keep enough money to buy more inventory and never sold enough parts to make it worth while, the scrap metal market has went to hell the last few months so simply crushing them isn't an option right now...I have been trying to figure out what type of business I could squeeze out of what I have already...any ideals would be great.
>>

Looks like you have a lot of older cars. Find which parts are cross-compatible and salvageable for boomer mobiles and post on classic muscle car forums. Be prepared to meticulously photograph, detail, post and ship everything.
>>
>>14081522
agree
find shit like 12 bolt rears, disk brake parts, blah blah hard to find shit and you might have to take a loss on the rest. keep the glass.
>>
>>14081522
Sorry I should have mention pic is not my yard
>>
>>14081522
He's been trying to get this business going for years, I don't think he would mind doing all that
>>
Alternatively, and I like this idea more, learn how into blackthumb, adopt a wardrobe exclusively of leather and football armor, get a bright pink mohawk and build as many non-functioning vehicles as possible into a massive Mad Max war rig. In fact, build several. Make your own war party.

ill take the 2 yota pickups...where are you located?

>I have been trying to figure out what type of business I could squeeze out of what I have already

I know a guy who buys Saturn S cars off dumb craigslist owners for cheap and he parts them out on a saturn forum/back on craigslist. He makes decent money from this, and the only downside is dismantling the cars.
>>
There is money to be made in dismantling and reselling on ebay.

Find the vehicles that are most popular and start taking those apart. Like anon pointed out those 4x4 toyota pickups are worth gold now. a running example wont sell for less than 8k these days and that's really cheap.
get into motorcycle too, especially the models that fags make into cafe racers. A good fairing can sell for the entire purchase price of a bike.

That kia sportage might have a mazda rear end gear set. 4.77 gears. Drifters and road racers buy those up quick.
Blazer parts are always in demand.

Make it easy for the customer to shop your inventory online is the bottom line. If you have the time to take good pictures and run a positive ebay shop you can make good money. You just have to take everything apart to a single part number and list it. You cant sell a whole interior as easily as you can sell a dash and radio and vents and bezel separately

Also get yourself listed on car-parts.com
>>
>>14081505
Got any old vans with the tire on the front grill?
And where are you located?
>>
>>14081505

OP catalytic converter are worth quite the change for their platinum content.
>>
You have the parts, you need to do the research and figure out what to sell.

My families company used to do this as well but got tired of dealing with it. We didn't have enough people to do it that way. We went to auctions, bought all the cars we could on minimum bid, stripped aluminum radiators/catalytic converters/wheels immediately to be sold for scrap, then left the vehicles sitting for ~3 months to allow people to buy what parts they need.

After that, a mobile crusher would come through to crush the vehicles. This is when scrap prices were up a little higher, but we would get checks for $60-80k every 3-4 months from crushing the remainder of the inventory, usually a couple hundred cars.

Add in the money from the pure aluminum loads, converters and whatever parts were sold off, it was decently profitable.

With scrap so low now though, your only real chance is selling parts individually. Find values, strip, package, list on ebay. You have enough work with 50 cars to keep yourself busy for months.
>>
Other then parting them out over time the only other thing you can do is just sit on it all until scrap goes up.
>>
>>14081542
You are now imagining a paint ball retreat with full mad max theme including converted cars with paint ball turrets and shit.
>>
>>14081669
Most of these are shitboxes that nobody would pick parts for because if they needed any significant amount of work they'd just get junked. Your inventory a shit.
>>
>>14081505
i like what i see there
>>
>>14082050

This is actually a good business idea, OP.

Buy some paintball guns and masks and there you go, a paint ball or airshit arena!
>>
>>14081669
Those 2 89 Chevy 1500s and the 98 jimmy. I need parts for those. Do you have a way I can Contact you?
>>
>>14081755
car-part.com requires a biz license/scrap dealer license ect as well as about 3k a year to get started..i don't have that shit the licensing alone would run another 3+k
>>14081771
nope
>>14081781
they are/were problem is I bought these frm individuals who were selling...I purchased them so I could clear around 30%...that %30 n longer exist if sold today I would take a 5% loss or more
>>14082011
yeah...that's why I was tying to find a different alternative
>>14082050
>>14081542
could never sustain this in the economy I live in
we couldn't even keep a bowling alley in business
>>14082169
True
>>14082174
Pic is not my inventory
>>
>>14081505
Is that a pic of your yard?
If so, that old Benz alone is worth $10k regardless of condition.
>>
>>14082011
>until scrap goes up
Good fucking luck. Not likely to go up ever again before shit hits the fan.
>>
>>14087283
pic is not my inventory unfortunately >>14081669 is about all I have maybe 10-15 not listed but they are basically the same shit

>>14087289
I think it will rebound just not sure how long that's gonna take
>>
The inventory is shit.
>>
>>14087325
You should be paying VERY little for cars. Offer free removal of unwanted vehicles. Pay them like $100 for any car.
If they ask why, the price of scrap is down.
EBay items.
Look for cars that have hard to find parts.
Crush cars for scrap once they are picked clean.
Pull all aluminum and copper parts and get scrap for them.
Pull alternators and starters and sell them to remanufacturing places.
>>
>>14081505
>make a living
you cant.
>>
>>14081505
>>14081669
Are you the same worthless faggot that came on here a few weeks ago and wouldnt list what you had because you are a lazy cunt?

Go fuck yourself if you are.
>>
>>14088353
He can. He just has to change tactics
>>
>>14081505
>150 scrap auto batteries,
Can be sold for $5 to $8 depending on market
>50 catalytic converters,
I recall these selling for a good amount of dollars
>100 aluminum rims
That's a lot of scrap. On average 20lbs a piece so that's about 2000lbs of aluminum.
Sounds like you can easily make money but you need to work harder and smarter
>>
>>14088361
afraid not...
>>
>>14081540
>pic is not my yard
Why not?
>>
>>14088346
Yes that's all im currently offering although I haven't bought anything in a couple months..the problem is that the stuff I currently have I have $250-$350 ea invested in

>>14088381
the majority of those batteries were purchased from customers for $6-$9 each I was selling them for $12 before the market crashed,...the rims I was paying $8 with a tire and $10 without and selling them for $13-15 each and
same way with the cat's I would be selling at a loss if sold today...
>>
>>14088416
.....not sure...it just doesn't belong to me?...see >>14081669 for list of shit I have
>>
>>14088445
Batteries should be $40 used each (they are in my area)
Wheels at $40 each without tire (they are in my area)
I'd sell off the batteries to gain some capital at least.
Maybe try to eBay the wheels to gain a profit.
Deffinatly sell off the catilytic converters
>>
>>14088461
the batteries are scrap cores...the rims are just miss matched a lot of them some of them damaged how ever yes some of them may be useable if I had someone wanting to buy 1 the only real issue with ebaying them is they are just generic factory wheel most of them from similar shit box cars im thinking they would be plentiful but I will look into it....
>>
>>14088481
Well then ditch the scrap cores. Make back a few bucks there.
Scrap whatever wheels aren't in good shape.
Sell the rest on eBay, even if they are a single wheel.
Check eBay prices. Clean factory wheels sell for $100+ sometimes. Plus shipping.
