>Unlike the GT-R's exhaust-manifold-integrated turbos, the new VR's turbos bolt directly to the cylinder heads.

what does this mean? does it mean the exhaust mainfold is integrated to the head?

>does it mean the exhaust mainfold is integrated to the head?
Yes, and the turbocharger bolts to that. Or R&T is just making shit up.
>>
>>14077803
so if I wanted a bigger trbo and bigger exhaust mainfold, I would need a new head?
>>
>>14077846
Or have the stock manifold ground off
>>
>>14077778
Yes.
>VR's turbos bolt directly to the cylinder heads
AND the turbos
It's just one big manifold monster.
>>
are you sure it's not just like the new gti's turbos with an inseperable turbo/manifold combo?
if so then you just replace manifold with turbo.
>>
>>14079051
but I assume there is a limit right?
>>
>>14079069

Ha, have a nice time fixing one of those things.
>>
>>14079071
No, it's a integrated manifold system like the new civic or the V6 camaro.

wat

are you telling the new type R and 1.5 liter turbo engines are the same
>>
it means several thousand dollar repairs
>>
>>14079215
No idea about the R, but the SI has a tiny little integrated exhaust manifold that probably flows exactly the minimum required for stock.

It's all about getting the cat up to temp fast for good emissions test performance.
>>
>>14079235
it also means more heat which is a major contributor to turbo failure and shaft play.
I wish they would work out a system that cools the exhaust gases so they could be comparable to say a diesel. Would certainly help with longevity.
>>
>>14079284
Diesel exhaust gases are typically hotter. Diesel turbo components are longer lived because they are heavier and normally don't spin up as high.
>>
Hyundai and nissan using twin turbo v6's what a world we live in.
>>
>>14079247
Fucking emissions.

Such bullshit.

I hate where automotive design and cars in general are going.

So glad I drive 80's and 90's shitboxes.
>>
>>14079334
So is Ford and GM.
