Don't know much about front engine porches however i think this one was supposed to have an Audi V10 but for whatever reason it never got it.

I like it though

I like them... I believe it was considered to be the most technologically advanced engine in a street car when released. Supercar level of performance in the 80's.

They can still be found on the cheap now too... because not 911. I would definitely add one to my garage if I had the space.

Also a big fan of the 944/924/951

There is a Porsche with a flat-8. The Porsche 908.

Sure.

But whatever your budget is to buy one in decent condition, make sure you have at least that same amount to fix stupid bullshit that breaks.

>He wants to buy a Porsche!!

Let me educate you son. There are 2 types of Porsche.

There's the 918 spyder, the 911 turbo (ect) and these are top tier race cars for the road. You can find almost no fault with these.

Then there's the mid and low range ones. Utter fucking overpriced crap bought by idiots who know nothing about cars and think that the badge makes them rich for owning a 40k boxter.

The reward for choosing the 2nd kind of Porsche includes but is not limited to

>Major recalls (you're lucky if you get recall before you die because your seatbelt breaks off during a crash and you break your spine, then burn alive)
>Constant maintenance that will break the bank
>Some cunt in a r34 GTR is going to rape your ass round corners and in the straights anyway

This advice goes for everyone considering the purchase of a new Porsche.

>Only ever buy their top tier models, it's where all the RND and love goes. The rest are ticking time bombs.
>If you can't afford their best, get another brand. Anything you like, just do not make the mistake of buying a boxter.
>>

I really like them especially their looks and supposedly they are one of the comfiest cars from their era and still one of the best handling cars in existence. To add to this shitloads of 924s, 928s and 944s have appeared on my local graigslist equivalent at prices I could easily afford. I'm really tempted to buy one but everywhere I read about them it is pretty much said that they are basically the biggest money pit cars... ...in the world.

Are they really that bad/unreliable? What are the biggest problem areas in them and is there a smart way to go around fixing them for good? What is the most reliable model between 924, 928 and 944?
>>

I can afford it too, I'm just waiting for the exact perfect vehicle.

I've got an '81. It's phenomenally solid. Built like a tank. The sound from the V8 is intoxicating, but it's not terribly fast by today's standards. It's 34 years but still looks modern. I've learned a shit ton about wrenching on it because the parts prices are fucking retarded and I frankly can't afford to have someone else fix things. The online support community is pretty much a cult and there's a huge knowledge base w sites like Rennlist that loves these cars. Buy the best example you can afford. If you buy a basket case you'll be $10k away from a $5K car.

Listen. The 911 wasn't that great of a car.

The 928 out performed all 911s of its time except the turbos. So it is a good car.

The 968 rapes 911s in the same way so buy one.

>>
>>14080770
The 968 could've raped the 911 but Porsche have a tendency to cripple their entry models in an act of 911 protectionism.
>>
>>14080772
But the point is it didn't
>>

It did though. You claim my post is bait but it isn't.

Even the 928 was designed to be Porsches main feature car.
>>
>>14080783
But it didn't, it doesn't best it in acceleration or handling, its not faster than the 911 on the track either, so no, the 968 does not rape a 911, and yes you're post was bait you fucking faget

If anyone has a because I think it's true bias, its you. The 968 had a 3.0 L I4 that was the last 928 engine cut in half, and made around 250 hp non-turbo, compared to the 911s that were made at the same time that had 300, it went 0-60 a full second slower, 1/4 a half second slower, and was overall slower than the 993 around the track, face it the 968 GETS raped by the 911

ahh the v8 one that got hit with the ugly stick.
its a still real porsche.

the 924/944 wasnt. was a audi/vw cast off and still regarded as the worst ever porsche

there are still very few cars that will still be fast as the 928. if you are looking for a 928 one now, dont buy any that have been sitting. because the rubber seals that degrade and its expensive to remedy and also they do have electrical problems because its a old porsche.
they are still using a derrivitive of the 928 v8 in the porsche cayenne 4wd. the only main difference between porsche and the other german car makers is porsche has longer service intervals
>>
>>14080837
the 968 weas actually a 924/944 with all the problems fixed.

when the 928 ruled the autobahns there was only one other car that could catch it the mercedes benz 560 SEL and to find one now its next to impossible.
>>
>>14080772
It's a recurring theme with Porsche. The Boxster and Cayman easily had the potential to be much faster than the 911, but they were crippled with pitiful engines
>>
>>14080961
Are you fucking retarded? The Caymen S engine is fucking stout, sure it isn't as fast as the 911, because the 911 is Porsches crown jewel until the 918 came out, all this bitching about fucking hierarchy, Jesus fucking Christ just deal with it
>>
>>14081000
cayman is boxter with roof. porsche on purpose made the boxter/cayman slower because they didnt want their lower spec model owning the flag ship 911.

plus boxter lol couldnt afford a 911.
>>

>>14079167
What is a "real" Porche then? I mean many people say watercooled 911s aren't real Porsches either which would mean there hasn't been a "real" Porsche since 1998.
>>
>>14081139
A real Porsche is the original formula
>rear engined
>boxer configuration

That's literally it, it doesn't matter if it has AWD so long as its rear-biased, or if its a water cooled engine as opposed to one with a doghouse cooler and fan shroud, as long as the engine is in the right place and its a boxer engine, its a true Porsche

You can get a decent 928 for 10k.

A good 928 costs as much as a slightly used cayman, and is probably as fast.

>>14079167
You guys can't be serious. The 928 was the first car completely designed and built by Porsche. The 356 and earlier 911s were basically suped up Beetles. So you by your definition a real Porsche actually isn't a pure Porsche. Get real faggots.

Implying the M28 wasn't equally unique and significantly stronger than a Ferrari 8 from that era. Fucking Reynolds 390 is so much stronger than what the Italians were casting their blocks out of. It didn't even need cylinder liners.

And are you trying to be funny? Ferrari used to refuse to put its badge on some of their sub 12 cylinder cars.

3.0 968: 240 hp
3.2 911: 230 hp

Also the 968 did indeed handle better than torsion bar era 911's.
>>
>>14080847
The 924 was a joint Audi-Porsche-VW project, the 944 was purely a Porsche project.

>3.2 911

If you compare the years the 968 was out which was 94-97 against the 993 which was out in the same years you are completely wrong, from Wikipedia:

>More specifically, the 993 engine is the final factory refinement of the Porsche-designated "M64" boxer engine. The standard, naturally aspiratedM64/05(06) engine at 3.6 liters capacity is a refined version of the M64/01 installed in the 964 Carrera. The M64/05(06) made 272hp (DIN)through model year 1995.

And that's the least powerful engine they had and it displaced 3.6L you stupid fuck

Did you really miss the fact that I was choosing to compare the 968 (which has is roots in the 70's) to the '84 - '89 Carrera (the last "classic" 911 according to Porsche/VW groupies) - The 964 and 993 are full of tricks learned from the development of the 959 - and It's not a proper comparison.
