there is nothing wrong with economy cars, but most them time they don't really have much coolness to them. Most my cars have been hatches and I have nothing against them, just need to be sporty and nice enough for me to be interested.
obviously a bmw 3 is not a competitor, but that doesn't mean it can't be comparably fast, fun to drive, or have similar luxuries. But maybe there is a better ford comparison car

if you want a practical, cheap, fun german car, get a mk3 vr6 gti. 12v vr6 are very durable motors and make good power. work is not too expensive if you know a local euro mechanic.

If you're talking about under 10k cheap, not actually super cheap like a mk3, then you want to go with a mk5 or mk6 gti, or a gli if you're too much of a cool fuckin dude to drive a hatch. mk5s come stock with your super cool projector headlights like you want. but you can buy some projector headlights and an hid kit for any car so that's a dumbass reason not to buy a car. You obviously dont turn your own wrenches do you lol
