Would this work to extend the cables to the trunk?
>>
>>14075321
idk
>>
As long as it doesn't rub anything.

Also; dont use stainless steel bolts, and wrap the connections in insulating tape
>>
>>14075321
I once held together the two ends from an amp wiring kit and just wrapped them with tape. Drove it like that for years, the guy that I sold it to still has it like that, and it's been five years since he bought it.
>>
>>14075787
The two ends from the fuse block*

They were round brass pieces, not bare wire.
>>
or you could just do it right instead of being a nigger
>>
>>14075321
If you're too cheap to hook your battery up right at least wrap it so your positive cable doesn't ground out.

>>14075321
Go to home depot and buy the correct length and gauge you need. Do do this shit right yo.
>>
>>14078037
Home depot has 0 gauge copper?
>>
>>14078046
0 gauge huh. Order it then from Mcmaster Carr.
>>
Shop around. Go to a welding supply store. I'm sure they have nice cable available. Ask them if they sell bulk cable of whatever size you want.
>>
>>14078061
Not her.

Pretty sure napa makes cables, if you give them specs.
>>
>>14075751
why not stainless?
>>
>>14075321
If you use aluminum you don't need to insulate it because it won't ground out against the steel body of your car. Some metals are non conductive with others.
>>
>>14080946

Doesn't conduct as well as regular steel
>>
>>14080990
good thing the two copper connectors are touching each other
>>
>>14080964
You are literally retarded.
>>
>>14081011
Shhhh
>>
>>14081002
Thats a very good point...

What an emarassment
>>
>>14075321
Enjoy your voltage drop
>>
>>14075321
Longer cables would be better that a splice in the middle.
>>
>>14081439
Shouldn't happen as long as there is proper contact between the connectors
>>
>>14081474
Voltage drop exponentially increases with wire length.
>>
>>14081629
Only if you're using insufficient wire gauge because you're a poorfag who cant afford 0 gauge.
>>
>>14081629
It's only a couple of feet. "Dragster" muscle cars used this setup a lot to put more weight on the back tires.
i.e. Hemi Dart
>>
>>14081691
Drag cars typically use a 16 volt system to minimize this effect.
>>
>>14081642
It doesn't matter what thickness of wire you use the resistance will still exist and running all of your power the length of the car will increase voltage drop significantly.
>>
>>14081797
....

But that's completely wrong...

I feel like this is bait but seriously?

Do you know anything about electricity?
>>
>>14081786
You are flat out retarded, but that's expected from a Mustang fan. Most actual dragsters run a small AGM battery and NO alternator at all to reduce parasitic loss, same reason for electric water pump. The AGM is good for about 10 minutes before it is totally flat and that's when you swap batteries. 16v system would be above the full field capacity of an alternator and it would fry the fuel injection computer due to overvoltage.

Source: My uncle and I raced Jr Dragster and he currently runs Top Fuel and my little cousin starts Jr. Division next spring.
>>
>>14081822
He doesn't know anything about anything and just regurgitates posts he read on some baby boomer forum from a decade ago
>>
>>14081797
But if the resistence is lower it will transmit power and a lot more current can be transferred over a larger gauge wire. You need to read a book nigger.

>>14081629

So why does my alternator put out 14.1 volts right out from it, and also 14.1 at the battery? Shouldn't there be some dropoff?
>>
>>14082515
Because 10 x 0.000001 is still only 0.00001.
>>
>>14082515
V=IR
The voltage drop is going to be directly related to the amount of current the wire is carrying and the resistance of the wire. The longer the wire the more its resistance. The more current the wire carries the more the resistance comes into affect. So when your 15 ft wire has a resistance of .1 ohm and your starter pulls 50 amps you will drop 5 volts over the wire.
>>
>>14082555
Yes, but the charge of 14.1 coming from the alternator stays at a strong 14.1 even way back to the battery, so where is the monumental dropoff he speaks of?

Or is this not readable with a multimeter?
>>
>termi getting blown the fuck out yet again
never gets old
>>
>>14075798
and what would be the right way
>>
WHAT SHOULD THE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION BE IN AN FF CAR
>>
>>14082568
There is no drop off because there is no current. If your battery was dead and the alternator was putting 20 amps into it then the drop off would be .1x20= 2v
>>
>>14082599
So, roughly translated = Termi is full of shit?

>>14082598

Goddamn grandpa you starting a v12

HELP ME OUT
>>
>>14083153
>He doesn't have a High torqu starter for his 8.4L V8

Not that guy buy my starter pulls more than 50 amps while starting anon.
>>
>>14083153
Don't most batteries have like 500 cca
>>
>>14083153
50 amps is nothing.. your shit box corolla probably pulls 100+
>>
>>14083188
On paper and factory fresh maybe.

Realistic most wall-mart shitshow batteries barley provide 200.

Starters that are normally fused are usually rated to 90, higher draw usually use the feed wire as a mechanical fuse and self destruct at ~200 amps.
>>
>>14075321

no.
>>
>>14083209
This.

Average commuter cars are usually pulling about 130.
>>
>>14081786
False.
>>
>>14081827
Cool, I kind of figured they ran with an alternator and no battery, because a running engine doesn't need a battery. Those engines don't self start anyway.
>>
>>14084344
Depending on how extreme they get it could have a normal charging system, a battery only or only a battery to run the ignition, if it's got magnitos and a remote starter you don't need anything.
