What car has the most striking visual appearance for the price? I think a lot of people would think the Elise is some kind of supercar when it's just an overpriced Miata.

What makes it more similar to a Spyder than a Miata then?

Same platform, same drivetrain, and same suspension geometry. The Elise is to the MR-S as the MSM is to the NA6 Miata.
>>

platform? no
the elise was its own thing. remember it was glued together.

>>
>>14075149
Kit cars will win this contest all day long. You can buy a running Bradley GT or Sterling/Nova/Sebring or MGTD lookalike for $2,000. You can build a Lotus Seven clone for under $5,000. Functional GT40 and AC Cobra clones typically fetch higher prices, but you can still get one for the fraction of the price of an Elise.

You guys really think a Spyder would garner more attention in a parking lot than an Elise? Maybe with enthusiasts? I think a normie would appreciate an Elise more.
>>
>>14075335
Neither car is actually that impressive in person. The Elise is a lot like the NSX in the sense that the first reaction anyone has on seeing it in person for the first time is "wow, it's a lot smaller than I had expected." If you want people to come up to you and ask about your car, get an MGTD kit car.

AD Tramontana without question. Yes it's hugely expensive, but try finding something as striking as this that's actually a production car and not a prototype. And it's not an ariel atom style track racer made by a couple guys on weekends, it has a massive engine, tons of gadgets, and weighs as much as a planet.

The last series of Toyota celicas.
Can be had for about $3k. Pic is obviously with some exterior mods but even a stock model is pretty neat looking, design was definitely ahead of its time.

Not modifiable enough to forget that they're a pigfat front wheel drive shit hunk that ruined the Celica name.

7th gen celica is like 2500lbs and still has back seats, this is miata weight, why call it pigfat when it's anything but?

>overpriced Miata
>making statements about cars you've never driven and know nothing about as if they were fact.

>>14075211
>same platform, same drivetrain, and same suspension geometry
All of that is at least half incorrect.

>same platform
Platform was bespoke (I think you meant layout). An example of a car that shares the Elise platform would be the Hennessey Venom GT or Tesla Roadster.

>same drivetrain
The Series 2 111s did share the drivetrain of the MR-2 Spyder, but only in Europe.

>same suspension geometry
In terms of suspension we're talking MacPhersons on the MR-S vs. Double wishbones on the Elise so it's kind of irrelevant either way.
>>
>>14081915
wasn't the 1ZZ in the elise supercharged anyway?
>>
>>14081615
>This actually looks nice.

Are you Mexican?
>>
>>14081957
I believe that a kit w/ warranty was offered as a factory option, but to my knowledge standard equipment was the plain jane 136-138hp 1ZZ-FE that we got in the MR-S here in the states. It was supposedly done to replace the non-US compliant K-series Rover engine used in the Series 1. That always struck me as strange because the Federal Elise never came with anything but the 2ZZ-GE. Only thing I can think is that Lotus had originally planned to offer the car in the US in two flavors one with the 1ZZ and the other with the 2ZZ, but the launch got mired in NHTSA fuckery and we just ended up with the 2ZZ.

Tiburons maybe? They can be found for a few grand and look fast, even if they're just FF econoboxes. Very pretty FF econoboxes, but still FF econoboxes.

The 2zz was supercharged in some models. Not the 1zz

>An example of a car that shares the Elise platform would be the Hennessey Venom GT or Tesla Roadster.
Tesla Roadster shares the same platform. Venom GT shares a chassis, but it's been so heavily modified it's a bit of a "stretch" to call it the same platform.

In my opinion, an AMC Javelin. They're still somewhat affordable compared to other big block, 4 speed manual muscle cars and have a really unique styling.

1) not true...these platforms were the direction GM was attempting to go before general failure.

2) not shit...I am pretty sure the ecotech 4 cylinders are regarded as solid durability and reliability.

3) not understanding...the point of this thread was aesthetics to price comparison...and the Saturn most definitely fits in that category.

I've been obsessed with cars since age 2. I've also owned both cars at one time or another and I always research cars I actually own as in-depth as a I can.

>pasting
Nope. Most of it comes from pulling back stuff from memory that I've read online either in forums from those more knowledgable than myself or different wikis.

>what do you do for a living
Nothing related to cars. I actually work in an optical shop

>How do I get on this level of knowledge?
It's all about knowing where to find reliable information and then mentally retaining and recalling that knowledge once you've found it. Most things that we consider to be knowledge are told to us rather than observed first-hand so how "knowledgable" you are often comes down to 2 factors: how well you retain information and how well you can recognize and separate reliable information from unreliable information. Hope that makes sense.
>>
>>14083023
same way people know sports trivia etc
>>
>>14083072
I always took cars sharing a platform to mean cars that share any major components or design and engineering philosophies. In the case of the Hennessey Venom GT it is similar enough to the Elise/Exige on which it is based that legally they can be registered as Exiges. If anything I'd say your argument is backwards. The Elise shares a lot more with the Hennessey Venom GT than the Roadster.
