Tested an EK9 once, and it kinda sucked even relative to other cheap economy cars I've driven. It felt very cumbersome for such a small car. Might just have been a bad example, though.

The graph posted is useful for determining how many total recalls occured. Because it doesn't factor in how many were sold, the graph can be misleading if you tried to interpret what percentage of toyotas have an issue based on the graph alone.

It can be, but it clearly demonstrates how many dangerously (liability) defective Toyotas were produced; it doesn't matter that they were sold, the fact is that they were produced. Toyota by far has produced the most litigiously dangerous and defective automobiles out of anyone year after year. The fact that they sold them like that (by misguidedly investing in PR, marketing, brainwashing rather than QC and engineering) only makes the case much worse.

Corolla has a long and varied history in motorsport, while Civic was only really used in touring car racing. I think it's cooler.
