How good are minicoopers in general ? and for racing ?

>>14073849
They're great handling little cars. And I would recommend them all the time... if they were reliable.
Mini is repeatedly one of the most unreliable brands in the USA, though nissan is working hard to take that title from them.
>>
>>14073849
I love em. Had one but crashed it. Anyways alot of people say they are unreliable as fuck after 100k. Be careful look for things like the front struts mushrooming and if it has mods maybe the drove it really hard. I sure did. And other guys will call you gay. And girls wont pay attention to you unless they drive one and they will only say how cute they are.

That kinda sucks that they're unreliable.

I drive a nissa micra 2002 as my first small car. Im in love with the way it handles. I figured mini coopers might give that while being hardier, but apparently not.

What brands would you recommend for small nippy cars that you can rely on?

If you can find a Starlet GT that isn't riced to shit or completely fucked it may be something you'd be into.
>>
>>14073849
why not get an austin mini ?
the 1275 gt is cheep and even the cooper models are not so expensive

down side being that they can get a little rusty around the sub frames and door sills
but aside from that any problems are an easy fix
>>
>>14073849
They are supposed to be great up to about 60,000 miles when a lot of little things start wearing out. I wouldn't consider a base model, only the Cooper S and above (JCW, GP, etc). Also, expensive maintenance if you're in the states.
>>
>>14073990
This looks nice. It is still pretty big compared to the Nissan I have. Its really tiny but incredibly spacious inside.

>>14073994
Really big man.

I thought minis unreliability was established already ?

If you're looking for new, there's one really great choice. ;)

the new BMW built Minis share NOTHING in common with the old style Mini's.

Any Mini after the on on the far right is an unreliable shitheap

Mine has been a great car for me and has never really given me much problems, only 1 major thing has gone bad. 105k miles and it runs and drives like a top. Fun as hell and good on gas, what more could I want.

If there is one problem it's the trans. The ZF 5 and 6 speed manuals have pinion bearings that go bad. Partly due to improper hardening of the mainshaft and partly due to Mini/BMW telling you the trans fluid is lifetime when in reality it's just gear oil. Mine did go bad, but I rebuilt it over 10k miles ago and it's been fine ever since.
>>
>>14074079
If only they weren't so overall slow.
>>
>>14074082
Is there a comparison between lengths?
>>
>>14074244
not to my knowledge.
>>
>>14074257
Just checked up, the 2015 mini cooper is 80cm longer than the classic one
>>
>>14073849
They are, quite simply, the single most unreliable car brand on the planet.
They're also fat, slow, have pathetic plastic interiors that look ugly and have expensive parts.

Only retards and women buy them, end of story.

Nigga get another nissan march/micra.
I drive a 2012, it handles like a dream, specially in urban settings. It's 1.6, 106 hp engine is more than enough for its 900~ kg. 2013 and upper versions just got a facelift, but if thats your thing go for it.

Just, please don't get an aucuckmatic transmission, CVT is the worst you could do to yourself, the 5 speed manuel transmission is lodsa fun.
>>
>>14074070
People I live with have a basemodel Cooper, they've had it for 50,000 miles and the only thing to go wrong was one of the calipers came loose and started digging into the rotor. It has 103,000 miles now
>>
based Swift might be an alternative
>>
>>14073849
i had an 02 mini s
ive driven a lot of "fast" cars, and the mini takes the cake as the funnest one ive driven.
nothing compares to how agile and quick these little shits are, and you get compliments everywhere you go.
in the couple months i had mine, i got more compliments than any of my other cars combined.
reliability speaking, its about as reliable as other cars so long as you take care of it, but when shit breaks it is EXPENSIVE to fix and time consuming as shit.
to replace my water pump it cost me like 600 dollars and 3 days to do myself.
the dipstick was 100 dollars.
but goddamn it is SO fun to drive.

Over-priced econo-cars that sell for twice the price of a regular econo-car because "IT'S SMALL AND BRITISH AND CUTE!"

>>14073918
>>14073932

They're British. Name one reliable British car.
>>
>>14074960
works kit obvs, different header and exhaust, pulleys, alta intake, ignition upgrades, tune, lightweight flywheel, clutch, suspension, different mini wheels, sticky summer tires...

i think that pretty much covers it...
>>
>>14075001
very nice
mine had an alta v2 intercooler, pulley, alta intake, borla touring exhaust, and a mini mania v2 header.
little shit was a BLAST to drive

If you get one, get a JCW. Supper fun and no problems with mine, it's an R56 with 94k miles daily driver and track driven hard every other weekend during spring and summer. Dont be scared, they put a huge smile on your face, and probably one of the funniest front wheel drive cars. Plus it doesn't take much to make them properly quick.
>>
>>14074970
Mclaren is a reliable British car company.
>>
>>14075057

show me a high-mile non-rusted-out Mclaren that's still in solid mechanical condition then
>>
>They're British. Name one reliable British car.

Um... The new mini is made by BMW... German... Not British made.
>>
>>14075115
Rowan Atkinson DD's his McLaren F1. I believe it's the highest mileage F1 in the world.
>>
>>14075247
It's still built in the UK, and until the latest model, used a French engine, which explains the unreliability.
>>
>>14073849
Literally JUST sold one at my dealership. Not bad cara. Really fun for fwd.
