Americans don't actually have a sense for utility and practicality, they just decorate their lives with the popular perception of these things to appear more rugged and independent. You could probably offroad a Geo Metro to where they're going in these trucks.

You'd think so, but I don't actually like the '50s Chevy cab very much, it's merely the only one I could find a decent model of. My favorite COE is probably the oval grille Ford because it's so uncompromisingly streamlined towards a single, utterly simplistic geometric feature that it arguably makes it a piece of automotive design history.

Kinda thinking of replacing my daily driver sedan with a full size 4x4 SUV for winter and to occasionally tow around project cars. Never been into trucks so I don't know what to look for. Strongly prefer an SUV over a pickup, I have zero use for an open bed.

Eh CB is usually 27mhz.
Only FCC licensed operators are allowed in the 400mhz range, here even with the license we only use 420-450.
The first CB radios were actually in the 400mhz band but they were deemed to expensive for the public so they changed to a 27mhz radio.
When you say CB to us, it is a 27mhz radio.
Oddly enough though, Australia actually started with 27mhz for CB but that fell out of popularity with the usage of the 400mhz radios.
So there is CB and UHF CB.

CB has a very short range and won't help you if you run into trouble in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. It's really only useful for talking to any other cars you're travelling with.

HF radios and/or Satellite phones are common among the long-distance touring set here in Australia.

There's commercial HF services as well as the Amateur stuff.

thats a really good deal, go for it. the GMT400 platform is cheap and easy to fix, and dont expect it to be fast, but it will be decently fun to drive with the 5 speed, and the aftermarket for the 5.7tbi is endless too if you wanted to make it more powerful. it would tow just fine too.

Is it a bad idea to ignore half tons if I'm looking for a reliable pickup?

It seems like every half ton I've looked at has been beat to shit and poorly maintained by high schoolers, college kids, mexicans or rednecks, and with the lower quality parts compared to bigger trucks by the time they get traded in to dealers they're 10k mi away from exploding.
Seems like 3/4, 1, and some 1/4 ton trucks don't see this abuse because they're used more by responsible adults or companies with good maintenance practices.

Am I being too picky or does this sound somewhat reasonable? My budget is about $15k in Texas, to give you an idea about what my selection looks like.
>>
>>14074744
for the sole fact of build quality i would overlook half tons
>beefier frame
>bigger brakes
>better axles
>usually bigger engine options
>stronger transmission and transfer case

It's a conversion by an Austrian company in cooperation with Suzuki and to my understanding can officially be bought from Suzuki dealers in Austria. Includes heavy duty springs for a total of 455kg / 1003lbs load capacity and costs a whopping 255€ more than a base Jimny (tarp and ladder rack not included).

Apparently the Samurai and Jimny are rather popular as super compact snow plows in the alpine region.

Cool thanks. Hopefully can sell the sedan quickly enough not to miss this one. I prefer doing my own maintenance work, so I like that it's easy to work on for the cheap. Not really looking for fast, that's what the sports car is for. Probably limit my upgrades to stuff to make it a better tow vehicle and sound system, but good to know it has aftermarket support.

Buddy in high school had a RCSB F-150 with the 300 and the 5 speed.

Slow as hell but he always had it overloaded for scrap. Trans blew up at like 280k and the frame was splitting (rust belt ftw) so he junked it.

Actually another friend from hs with one only its a long box. Its caught on fire before, is rusting to hell, and has a different bald ass tire on all 4 corners.

Not going to be vary useful I think, and I do already have a 91 XLT 4.0 but the price seems too low to pass up at least going to check it out
>>
>>14076872
Honestly I'd pass unless you're bored and want a project. Too cheap to pass up usually implies a money pit. If you don't have a use for it, which it sounds like you don't, you're just taking on a project that'll eat money. At that price it's probably crap, and loaded with issues.
>>
>>14077163
Not bored, already have too many projects; Current thoughts are to inspect it, if everything seems fine past that then think of new tires, and shipping it out to !!B21a1(Iowa) so he/we can sell it out east and we can split the profits (California no rust MUST BUY etc etc other CL tags)

Really just thinking of a quick flip. And apparently my county is having 'amnesty' for cars that haven't had the rego up to date which seems like a nice little bonus.

Just looking for a quick flip, but yea, expecting the usual lies told by cheap car sellers.

Thanks.

If the paint wasn't so good on yours I Would suggest 4wd front fenders and bumper caps. Looking good on the + size wheel package.

manliness has nothing to do with what I think looks good. I think Acura NSXs look great, but I don't think they're super manly or anything like that.
