seeing as you posted Canuck cash, I drove for Calgary transit for years. It payed about $73-75k a year. it was only $32 an hr, but if you knew how to work the overtime it was gold, triple time and a half (overtime on a holiday) is awesome even if you only do an hour or two, knowing you are earning $102hr.

quit my job because despite the pay it sucks balls and went back to school for a BA

I used to have an IT job that I did from home and milked the fuck out of the overtime for a couple years. I was pretty bummed when they switched me over to salary. All of my overtime was me laying on the couch watching TV.

Personally speaking, I work on my hospital's electronic medical record charting system. I help upgrade the system, implement changes, and train other nurses and physicians while adhering to Joint Commission standards. I have no formal IT training. I just worked as a floor RN for 4 years.

With a CS major and bioinformatics minor you should have no trouble getting in. Search for keywords related to EMR systems. Epic, Cerner, Meditech and Mckesson are the big systems that hospitals use. Try using those as keywords on a job board and see what pops up. Most of the postings just want to see a Bachelor's degree. Median pay is around $80k nationally.

Yea but we on the rural side of the post office dont get paid hourly.
We get paid a set amount depending on route size
I get paid 8.8 hours a day. If it takes me 6 hours I get paid 8.8 if it takes me 10 hours I get paid the same 8.8 hours. I like this system because if I bust ass and get done I go home.
Trust me you dont want to be us maybe 5 years ago but these days we are basically freight transporters. I had 286 parcels + all the mail. Also we sort and mark and load everything ourselves.
Its a shit job during the holidays but the rest of the year its fine
I would rather be a UPS driver than a USPS carrier.

Too long don't read.

Spent 8 Years Working Service Industry Making 80K a year. Ended up Developing a Pretty bad Drinking habit along with buying a bunch of cars I would later total. (with the exception of my baby the 2002) 2- 08 CBR600s, 2- e30s, 1-w123 merc, and finally my 75 2002.
Thank god you can't Snort or drink them.

I beat a DUI after crashing my 89 IS When My Brakes Failed while I was Hockey Drunk. The Kings beat the blackhawks in playoffs, there was nothing I could do.
After the Crash I used the Starter motor to break loose of the guard Rail and coast down the canyon to my home. Later on I got arrested at home when they found my license plate lodged in the rail.
Fun fact, if you crash your car while drunk get somewhere and make sure somebody sees you slamming alcohol and keep drinking until the cops take your drink away. Innocent.

One day I walked off the reservation and quit.

After meeting a guy in a bar while drinking He ended up offering me a job doing Infosec.

Now a days I make 60k working part time for For a company that trains contractors on the equipment they use in the middle east and Africa. Even though I make 20K less a year, I actually have more money to spend. Planning on going back to yokosuka to get a right hand drive rice cooker.
Pic unrelated It's some dumbass I went to school with who rapped poorly.

Laborer for BNSF Railway
$25.32/hr, typically get 9 hours a day. Benefits package is awesome, my insurance costs $1,500/month, I pay $198 and the company pays the rest. Railroad retirement and 401k is great.
Unions are currently negotiating new contracts and we are hoping to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $29/hr. Only downside is that crude oil and coal are dirt cheap right now and the mild winter means far less is being used for heating than normal. We aren't shipping near the volume that we should be and they are taking locomotives out of service by the hundreds. We are hoping for the best, but a layoff is lurking in the shadows.

Too long Don't Read Here.

Your best bet is networking with people in the IT industry socially. It goes further then having a degree with out any prior real world experiance. Now a days job listings say they want so many hours in Net+ or so many Years of C/CPP or java. But there are so many platforms coming out that just burn out. it is best to either learn machine or get an entry level job at a company you can learn at.
Platforms like salesforce force has a lot of people end up having to learn. You can learn puppet, Chef isn't really catching.

Being a system admin nowadays Is pretty much being an office manager. Look into forensics and Reverse engineering. If you are going to take the time to cure yourself of the stupids those specialty. They have a future and People really need people especial how the political system is evolving. Pretty Much learn to drink corporate koolaid

I think it really depends on the people you work with. I get along with everybody I work with, and I'm good friends with a few of them. If I hated the people I work with, the job would fucking suck, since what you'll be interacting with the techs/service advisers all day.

The workload can be either super heavy, or super light depending on the day and how booked up the shop is, how big the orders you're receiving/shipping out are, etc., etc.. You definitely have to be decent at multitasking.

All this could of course be completely different at another dealership, I don't know. But from my experience it is a great gig, and I would recommend giving it a shot.

usually "higher up" positions require experience. just get your bachelors and run with it. if you feel later you want/need something more then go back for it. most people that get their master/phd do it later in life.

Though I'm located in a pretty small town, so I'm not paying out the ass for taxes/everything else like the yuppies in Col/Cali/Chi/NY.

Main downside of small towns (esp in the south) is racist fucks as far as the eye can see. There's a natural separation of class around here. The damn rednecks don't know how much worse off they would have it without the taxes and wealth our company brings to the area. To hell with them, they can take their bible shit and jump off a cliff in the name of jesus christ.

I'd gladly swallow the "pay cut" of moving to a better city like Denver if it meant escaping from these shitty brodozers and bigoted conservative fuckboys.

And yes, I'm salty as fuck. Just polished off the last bottle of decent single barrel bourbon in the region it seems like. Gotta wait till my next trip to denver to replace it because all the shops down here carry the ungodly assortment of pisswater and cheap liquor.

Thanks kid. Shouldn't you be wrenching on your mr2 or putting a body kit on your fiero?

Maybe you should move out of neon's basement and realize the wonders of a stiff drink after a week of last minute deadlines and putting up with shitty coworkers.

I can't imagine regular 60 hour work weeks. I'm only a social worker for 45 hours a week, and already my existence feels like a race between liver disease and sticking my gun in my mouth.

Doe's your work at least feel fulfilling? I've stopped questioning the role I play in the labor market, I'm just here to grow wealth, thin the margins, all while making the shareholders happy.

Honestly, I'd love a job teaching or just being outdoors.
>>
>>14072661

You get used to anything when you have to. My work has been easy as shit for the last almost 20 years though, which is why you'll never see me complain about shit. I'm being paid to post dumb shit on here all night.

5 ton delivery truck driver
18$ an hour. average 10.5hrs a day.
I could probably make more as a owner operator but then i'd have to deal with all the bullshit repairs. I also have full benefits which is pretty dandy.

fast food, mostly 3rd shift. the store i work at is located conveniently on a street that is mostly bars. we close at 3am; 4am on fridays and saturdays. it can get pretty fucking wild.

$10/hr. started at $7.50, crawled my way up to $8, then was basically handed $10 because management likes me and i can work whenever (mostly the latter)

number of hours i work changes on a weekly basis depending on when i'm scheduled. meaning it's partially up to me to ensure that i make enough money to live.

You get used to it. I thought 40 hour weeks were tough when I got my first full time job. Then when I went into management and started working 50 to 55 hour weeks (that jumped up another 10 on rough weeks) I thought I was going to loose my shit.

It really helps when you enjoy your job or you are working for yourself. I work at Publix and all our stocks are employee owned. So you know your retirement and your friends/coworkers retirements are riding on everyone doing their part. It negates the tough times. Even if that weren't the case though, you just become accustomed to anything eventually.

Bullshit. Plenty of fields where a Master's is almost necessary. If you want to do anything cool as an Aerospace Engineer for example you should have at least a Master's

>>14074421
bro he said generally. Aerospace engineer aint general
>>
>>14074439
In any engineering field or science/medical lab, you need a fucking masters to clear 40k a year

There are plenty of other fields where it's worth it too. Shit tier advice really. Although I do doubt it's worth it for CSE unless you want to do some R&D

I know what you mean.

I work as a boom-crane operator/truck driver. $300k piece of machinery capable of lifting pallets weighing thousands of pounds 5 stories in the air, and requiring various certs and licenses to operate. I'm also required to go on the roofs and hand-unload and stock product weighing 50-90lbs, while operating this fuckhuge thing, and following the insane myriad of OSHA, NCCCO, DOT and FMCSA regulations the whole time.

For 19 whole bucks an hour. At least half the year I work my full allowed 60 hours, and get paid 1.5x overtime for anything over 40 hours in a week, so I do well enough. The shitty part is I barely get 40 through winter, so I have to save a separate amount from my general savings for winter cash.

Looking in to management or getting my full stick crane license. Both make way more money, both have different kinds of stress.
