Friendly reminder that you're better off buying a Sport ND and upgrade it vs buying a Club.
>>
>>14065292
agreed. You could even get a nice clutch type LSD and some really good suspension and still be under the club price.

Is 1.6 miata that bad?

Also for the fastback, what does the fiberglass skin only look like?

Drive a na6, they are pretty zippy. Especially when you daily a geo metro and drive the miats on the weekend

Are miatas even that fast or do they just feel fast because of low to ground and roadster style?

Got me new wheels and tires. 15x8 Advanti Storms with some Kuhmo Ecsta's 205/50 since I do DD in the winter (I have the truck in case there is actually snow on the ground, but it's a huge POS so I avoid it).
I also realize it needs a wash, but it has been cold as fuck lately, and working a regular 8-5 job means it's always dark when I get off work.
>>
>>14065728
Have you ever used AC on a Miata? Might as well not have an engine
>>
>>14065728

Personally i love both but there's something about fastbacks on a miata that just make it more sexy. Like if this car were a person id fuck it

Are there any aftermarket ones that are better than stock or is it all rice? How would pic related look on a black NA?

Maybe. If there's no ac coolant, it all had to leak out somewhere. You can buy a can to refill it, and figure out where the leak is.

Got my NA a few months ago.

So far

>flipped my interior map lights upside down
>removed engine compartment weight like the horn and AC
>brake fluid
>shifter rebuild because I was dumping turret oil
>semi metallic brake
>unclogged my rain drains
>oil filter relocation

Future mods are
>Dunlops
>Advanti Storms
>smoked turn signals
>cut rear bumper
>roll bar
>shocks on stock springs

That's it. Any GOOD bang for the buck mods?

these, Delrin door bushings. they may seem super gimmicky but you really can feel a decrease in cowl shake and chassis flex. hitting bumps make a solid clunk instead of a shuddering noise. they sell them on garagestar.com

Tyrant Fabrication is creating their own hardtop with a diffuser and roof bubble for better helmet clearance. Looks great in my opinion and it WILL be $750.
>>
>>14067438
does that include glass, seals, and mounting stuff/latches? also why do they have zero actual physical prototypes? they just have renders. seems fishy. I will be extremely surprised if these hardtops actually fit right and make it to those who pre-ordered them in a timely manner.
>>
>>14067438
>>14067465
I'm in the market for one and while this looks like a good choice I have the same concerns. I'd like to see a prototype on an NA before purchase. Price is great, if they show a fitted prototype and it includes the glass then I'll buy one.
>>
>>14067465
They're already working on a prototype using an OEM hardtop as a mold. The fit should be close to factory.

No word on plastic window, seals, or latches however.

Well I guess it depends on where you live, I live in Washington where it rains a lot. I'd rather have a hard top then the soft top when it's pouring. Some also say it adds rigidity, and there are others who wish the Miata came in a coupe because they hate convertibles for some reason
>>
>>14070081
I live in Florida, so it rains pretty often, but when it isn't I'd probably have the top down. I'll see how I like it with the soft top first, and there's cheaper and more effective ways I've seen to increase rigidity.
>>
>>14066853
Your map lights are where your legs rest, and they're pointed at the floor. If you flip them around it'll shine upwards so that the interior is more lit up. Couple this with an LED bulb you can get online and your nighttime drives are made amazing.

when you say mods I assume you're talking about like tall person mods. I don't have any mods like that. I fit with the chair slid all the way back. I even have the sun visors installed still

how uncomfortable? in the black '94, very uncomfortable. it was high mileage and had lots of rattles, and the suspension I had installed was too stiff. the undercarriage was fucked, so the car was not rigid at all.

the newer blue one rides like a dream though. it has a quality flyin miata suspension set up and the chassis is leagues stiffer. it also has the stock exhaust which is pleasant. the seats are good and the top doesn't leak etc.

shitty miatas are gonna ride like shit.

I've done all scheduled maintenance by miata.net's guide lines and my 22 year old na6 has been a turn key car
>new clutch
>timing belt
>water pump
>accessory belts

it's had a couple small things such as it bleeding oil akin to its british ancestors but those issues I could always fix at my convenience

it's not uncomfortable, you get used to constant squeaks, rattles and engine drone, it's fantastic to drive and the trunk is big enough plus there's additional room to toss your crap (if need be) where the top sits, bretty damn good dd

Hi /mg/ I'm thinking about geting a miats. I got 7000$ to spend on car/car + parts.
I think the nc is ugly as sin. If that is the recommended option, can it be modded to look good?
What get/do?

honestly you can't go wrong with any generation. just pick the one you like. Good luck finding a decent NC for 7k though.

If I were you I'd get a clean NB and trick it out with some good handling mods/wheels and tires.

Yes, but they didn't call it RS back in the day. They called it a base model.

For autos fastbacks would a regular roll bar do or do you need a roll cage

The NC is not the recommended option though. The NA and NB are cheaper, every other generation is more lightweight, the only thing the NC is good for is being a summer cruiser for literal gaylords.

Going only by looks the na and nb looks just as good to me, but ive heard alot of people saying the na handle better.. Is this true? Are there any engines to look out for?
>>
>>14074293
The NB handles better. Personally, I prefer starting with an NA and swapping in in NB parts since I prefer light weight over stiffness, but starting with an NB will end you up with a stiffer car that can fit wider tires. If you do get an NB, try to get an 01-05, since they'll have the VVT engine. Then sell off the calipers and brackets since it's a bitch to find pads for them and either go to normal 1.8 brakes or Wilwoods.
>>
>>14074293
>the na handle better.. Is this true?

This anon >>14074332 basically said it. Hey, you sound like you've already stiffened up an NA chassis. What would you recommend to do to a stock '92 NA with lowish mileage chassis wise to support a ~380lb/in coilover suspension (Vmaxx Hilltrac, it's dirt cheap in GER)? I am reluctant to bore too many holes in the underbody since here in GER it's rust city and I consider myelf lucky to have found an NA with almost no rust for a decent price.
>>
>>14074350
I wouldn't. As I said, I'd rather leave it light than stiffen it up. Your best options for stiffening are either to cage it or do frame rails (with a liberal application of rubberized undercoating) and an underfender brace (Frog Arms).

Also, VMaxx is garbage. It's pretty much the VW version of Raceland. Either get Twin Street Basics if you absolutely need to have jdm tyte coilovers for maximum street cred, or get a set of OEM Bilsteins with an eBay coilover kit.
>>
>>14074424
Thanks for the tips.

I basically just want to find a replacement for the original '92 shocks with 94k kilometres and the stupid lowering springs the previous owner installed right after he got the car (Also in '92, they probably have sagged since then). Basically the cars hits bumpstops more often than I like and I want to find a suspension that revises that.

Since most aftermarket springs that have a TÃœV Typgenehmingung the NA MX-5 (meaning they are legal in Germany) lower the car about 40mm without being very stiff, they probably won't help much.

So I was thinking coilovers or revert to stock springs with Koni or Bilstein shocks. How soft are the stock springs? Will I feel I'm on an AIDA ocean cruiser? Also what's so bad about the Vmaxx? Is the ride quality that bad?

>>
>>14074645
Well since it looks like a hellaflush piece of shit. I doubt they will give you what you want for it.
>>
>>14074617
Stock springs with Koni shocks on the softer settings should be not completely awful. Bilsteins really need stiffer springs to not be complete shit. How exactly does TUV approval work? Does every component need the sticker or just certain pieces?
>>
>>14074670
As far as suspension goes only dampers and bumpstops are free. all the other things need some sort of paperwork done by the manufacturer of the part that guarantees that the part is "safe" for use in the specified vehicle. Lots of manufacturers don't bother with this and their parts are then illegal to put on your car in Germany even though they are completely safe.
>>
>>14075017
How about threaded sleeves that go around the shock? Do they need the sticker as well?
>>
>>14075037
The rubber things around the shock to keep dust away? They probably count as part of the shock and are therefore free to change.

Springs unfortunantely aren't. If anyone knows Miata springs close to the rates and lengths of the FM springs with a TÃœV Typgenehmingung, you need to post ITT btw.

I mean these. They let you use normal 2.5" springs instead of forcing you to find Miata-specific springs.
>>
>>14075073
Ah, now I get what you mean.
Unfortunately, they won't help because the TÃœV forces me to put springs on the car that are approved specifically for the Miata.

>>
>>14072363
how do you get your engine bay so clean
>>
>>14075109

That might actually work. Might have to ask at the TÃœV office before I try it, but I think they would allow that. Are the dampers on the VMaxx that bad?
>>
>>14075141
They're pretty bad. Unfortunately, the VMaxx springs will be 60 mm ID rather than the 65mm you need to fit them onto sleeved shocks. It will give you more coilover options, but then things start getting expensive. You're probably just better off finding a set of used stock springs and getting a set of those Sensen $100/set shocks if you're just looking to have suspension again. If you want something good, Konis on stock springs is probably as good as you can get up to the ~800 USD range.

My advice is to move to a country that doesn't hate cars.

>>14075204
Yes, it will feel a bit cramped though. You will have about 1 inch of headroom left before touching the roof when closed. For more headroom you can cut out foam from under the seat. Get one with an aftermarket wheel for more room around your knees. It also looks better.

it has to be your life. I mean every waking moment has to be put to that goal and nothing else or you won't get there and youll be at a pretty big disadvantage starting at 18.

you should concentrate on school regardless, because they like if you have a degree in a related field. and you gotta pay to play so having a good job not only as a back up but as a primary means of financing racing is absolutely crucial.

You're aren't going to be a prodigy, but it's still possible to get /somewhere/. But, yeah to put it bluntly the chances starting at 18 with no family support are basically 0.01%. Which is why I said to concentrate on school. Once you have stability from an actual career path you can safely try to get into the higher levels of racing without ruining your entire life on whats essentially a pipe dream even for really talented drivers that started at age 5.

Idk, the industry is different now. You can be in your 20s or 30s with some money and if you have the skill plus the money to get your foot in the door it's possible to make something happen. Still highly unlikely, but possible for the determined. Mx-5 cup is an example of that. All about having the money to get in the door, making connections, and getting really lucky. The only other alternative is winning everything you enter from age 10-20.

There's nothing wrong however with building a race car and taking it to tracks and practicing over and over again as an adult.
But you have to be realistic about it. You're not ever going to make money from it. Not unless you were training since you were a little kid. You're going to be in a hole of financial debt to support your super expensive habit of building cars and pushing them to their mechanical limits.
If you want to do that as a hobby by all means go and do it. But you better find some other aspect of life you enjoy and make a contribution to society back first to be able to make those financial decisions on your own.

Im thinking of getting these.
Any thoughts /o/?
are there any other nice quality wheels that cost no more than $150? (that also look really nice on the car)

I have those, I wouldn't really recommend them. The spokes extend way far out and get all sorts of rashed up if you're already used to how wide your car is. Jongbloed Aero 500, 949Racing 6UL, and Advanti Storm S1 are good alternatives. I suggest going with 8" wheels and 205 tires, since you'll have the best selection of good rubber.

same here anon i just bought a stock white NA with 59k on it. I have an advantage over you though... ITS A HARD TOP >:D
Also i had no idea you could have a hard and soft top on at the same time and the hard top comes of like super easily. Only problem is that the soft top rattles when you hit bumps when its lowered.

I would recommend finding a way to mount your hardtop with bolts to reduce the likelihood of theft. people steal hardtops all the time in my area so I mounted my hardtop with security bolts
>>
>>14081413
You can have em both on at the same time??
>>
>>14082888
You could have the soft top laying on the rear shelf with the hardtop on. You cannot have the soft top up with the hardtop on though, they use the same latches on the windshield of course.

can a brave soul actually buy a tyrant fab hardtop and try to DD it. If they can actually make it DD able then they will no doubt flood the miata market since all the other alternatives are not great beyond track use.

Has around 140k and I got it for around 1500. Just had to replace the brakes and clutch so far luckily. Looks to be mostly stock too.

Overpriced, but I see actual miatas being sold. All I get in my area is people trying to trade their civic or jetta
