Having owned one, be wary of the oil pump seals, on the 5sfe to replace the pump seal you need to remove the timing apparatus, typically you replace the pump/gaskets when you do the timing belt.
as its over the period where you would have had to do the timing belt on it, be prepared to either do some wrenching yourself, or pay a shop for about 6 hours worth of labor just to replace an 18$ gasket, the pump itself is also only 60$, so if yuour inclined it might be worth it to replace that as well if your gonna have to take the timing belt off yourself

It's a pretty good car. 238k miles is very high for $1000 in my opinion, but if it's not rusty it's probably not too bad. If you want to go fast you can GTE swap it later, otherwise the 5S should last forever. I'm not aware of specific issues though since I've only ever owned Celicas with 3S engines.
