Let's see a honda civic do a 1:49 on buttonwillow with 300hp and 3000lb. protip: it can't. FF can't compete.

BMW over the past decade has really shitted up their brand. All those cheap lease deals. Here in Miami a 3 series is a chicks car. Can get them ultra cheap, for a while could lease a 3 series for less than 300/month because they figured a 82% residual (kek, BMW lost their ass on those cars). Now I see them literally everywhere, parking lots and dealerships have them stacked like firewood.

Incorrect. And actually leased my gf one of those back when that deal was going, was pretty sweet. Car was annoying though. Heavy, sloppy, shit electronics and it dong'd and beeped all the time.

a new civic feels like shit to drive though
i`ve had more fun driving a 1995 E36 than a new civic
also the old e46s can be decently equipped, 16:9 sceen sat nav a great harman kardon sound system etc
also they are very cheap nowadays
>>
>>14061651
Post your car then, faggot. People who say this always drive some sort of 90's jap shitbox.

>>14061679
This. New BMW is kind of dildos. They stopped focusing on people who like to drive and tried to turn themselves into the next Mercedes, i.e big ugly automatics that break all the time and are impossible to work on.

I'm in the market for a new luxury car and I'm bored of mercedes (been driving them for 6 years now) and I'm looking at BMW but I know very little about the cars.

What can you guys recommend in the 60K-80k price range for someone who works in a profession where you're actually judge by what you drive (attorney)

Looking to get a e38 740. Anything to look out for? Any model years to look out for? Are they as easy to work on as 3 series E36's? Or shitty like 5 series E39's?
>>
>>14062986
I have a E39 540i, what's shitty to work on about it? I've replaced the cooling system, driveshaft, etc. It's a straightforward car.

electronics aren`t a great problem for neither e39s or e38s.
The usual problems with the old 7 series is the automatic transmission and engine, if they are fine the rest is nothing problematic or is easy to fix.

That's a fully built race car in the pro unlimited class.

That e46 is in the street class.

1:45 with a "professional" driver and 500whp and 2,000lb is actually really sad lmao

FF will never be able to compete. Look at it push through every corner LMAO.

Spoon tunes street cars, just because it has colorful stickers, doesn't make it a race car.

man, you make me feel like shit every time you mention it

why would you do that

that 510 was dope
>>
>>14064343
my mate had a welded diff on his e28. it was fucking awful on snow, literally on every snowy highway ride the car was constantly sideways, every snow ride felt like we would die. Undriveable. Open diff is good for snow, weld the diff on spring, it is best suited for asphalt drifting not snow
>>
>>14061742
why would anybody want a screen in their car
especially when you're talking about having fun driving

316i here. It's coming back to me tomorrow since my dad had to borrow it to get to Denmark. Can't wait.
I asked this question in another thread and only got one reply, is it possible to swap in a S50B32 into a 316 body? Where I live there's a lot of shitty reverse-sleeper E36s with M-package, ///M badges and 1.6 or 1.8 engines so I wanted to have an actual "sleeper".
>>
>>14064666
Noted and nice trips m8. Might take a trip to the junkyard for a extra diff
>>14066890

I was the guy that responded to you in the other thread. Yes, everything is interchangeable. You're better off buying an M3 and putting the entry-level trim options on it if that's what you really want.

Pic related, my 328i.
>>
If I wanna buy an older BMW like around early 2000s. Which would be better? A 330ci, an e36 or an e39. I want it to be manual also
>>
Is it just me or are E36 interiors just shit?
Mine was sitting in a garage for over a decade before I owned it and the interior is chipping away
The weather can get real cold here if that's a major factor
>>
>>14066961
E39-comfy, big, not exciting.
330-all the girls will comment how nice it is. Fast. Electronic throttle (you notice it with the manual) and only open diff.
E36-the most fun to drive

Decide what u want out of it before u pick one
>>
>>14066961
E 4 6

6
>>
>>14067255
>>14067578
Which of those four would be more reliable and wouldnt be as bad with things breaking all the time, assuming im working on it myself
>>
>>14067880
they are all good
there is literally almost no difference in reliability if you get one with the i6 petrol engine, the old diesels are quite unreliable though.
Parts are cheapest on the e36, its also the easiest to work on
>>
>>14067880
E46. It's newer than the E36 and parts are generally more robust. Suspension system on the E39 is wayyyy more complex than most people think, lot's of stuff that can fail there, also has more electronics. E46 is also super easy to work on and parts are generally inexpensive.
>>
>>14068107
The E39 is just as easy to work on as the E46, and the parts are just as inexpensive, because it's the same engine with the same parts.
Finding an E39 that hasn't been shit up is way easier than an E46 because of how much more common E46s are. Every 5 series I've ever seen has been better maintained than a 3 series (unless we're talking about M3s which are always babied for obvious reasons)
>>
>>14061648
I have no idea if you're still here but is the low-end torque on the E46 (non M3 models) as bad as people say?
>>
>>14069170
It is if the VANOS seals are fucked, which pretty much all of them are because the OEM get shittered fast as fuck and most people don't notice that it's a problem.
Takes about an hour and a half to do it yourself if you're inclined, proper beisan seals are $60.
>>
>>14069170
idk see for yourself
http://youtube.com/watch?v=mreGzTNk8Hk
not exactly "low end torque" in this video but whatevs
>>
>>14066890
I find the E36 316 so damn fascinating. The front is a regular E36, the back is custom to be hatchback and the dashboard closely resembles an old E34 5 series.
>>
>>14070509

What you're talking about is the E36 compact.

316 alone doesn't automatically mean compact and there were TONS of normal sedan 316 in europe back in the days.
>>
>>14063296
It's a race car you absolute mong.. it's in the UNLIMITED class with a professional driver.

And the civic poster you posted isn't the civic that did the time. the civic that did the 1:45 (a shit time for a car of that horsepower and weight) is a full carbon flat bottom race car.

FF fags truly are desperate.

god damn i wish i had a garage, i NEED to do the timing cover gaskets, they're leaking much more than i'd like (two or three drips per day on average)

316 means it's a 3 series with a 1.6 engine. It doesn't imply anything about whether it's a compact, sedan, coupe or touring. Although AFAIK touring wasn't sold with the 1.6 engine.
>>14070962
There's still a lot of 316s in poorer regions.

E39s are some of the lowest maintenance BMWs out there, and are probably the easiest to work on.
>>
>>14076689
eeeehhh i wouldn't say that. e36 is really low maintenance, e39 needs some regular loving and things do go wrong. They're not bad to work on though
