i didn't include the sounds and it uses srpl shaders which should already be in your game if you got the touge pack.
I didn't make it, so I didn't do any of the file structure or skins, except the Fujiwara one which was only so I could figure out where the sides of the vehicle were on the template.

Is there a guide on how multiple customizable dds skins work?
Like a GMT file or material that can point to a path looking for a specific texture using a modifiable variable.
3DSimEd says our material in question is just pointing to a dds texture located in a .mas file, that said when we actually get into the game we can see using trace the GMT file (syclone_windows_a.gmt)'s material (wcwindow) is seeking a texture from the same directory the .veh file is located. That said the .veh file doesn't seem to have any code in it that would indicate it is overriding the existing GMT file (syclone_windows_a.gmt).
The question here is how to remove this override or path trying to grab a texture from the same directory as the .veh file.
It doesn't look like .gen files can specify textures, and even if they could the .gen for the syclone doesn't have any mention of textures, merely just GMT files.

I can understand how a skin for the entire vehicle works, but often modders will decide to make individual portions of the vehicle reference a skin file in the .veh or a subfolder from the .veh directory.
An example is pictured.
The first dds file (syclone.dds) is the skin for the entire vehicle.
The other dds files (sycloneextra0.dds, syclonewindow.dds) are for specific parts of the vehicle. These parts do not match the .dds file specified in the material from the GMT.
How do they do this and how does it work? Thank you.

Ah upon further research it seems there is the "wc" prefix is called a "Wildcard" and is similar to a variable in normal programming.
I don't quite get how these wildcards work just yet but I think researching them is important when understanding how GMT files interact with texture files.

So the point of this exercise was really to solve an error caused by the removal of the skins the wildcard materials were pointing to.
If you ever encounter a trace error on a material with a WC prefix an easy fix would be to rename the material without the wc prefix. In the above example you would rename wcwindow to just window.
Export the GMT with the renamed material and import it into the MAS file the GMT originally came from.
Now I can use simple color choice skins without encountering errors because of a wildcard material looking for textures based on the texture name that aren't there!
If you see an extra0 suffix on a .dds file you can be pretty sure there's a wildcard material referencing it.
Just some more notes on wildcards....
I'm wondering if it's pretty important to keep the car's body as a wildcard if you want to allow users to edit the alpha on the skin of the car.
Perhaps if you do not use a wildcard for the body the alpha of the existing material's texture will take priority over the skin file put in the .veh directory's subfolder.

I can't agree with the controllable part.
The diff acts very weirdly on loose gravel or any wet surface. A slight drift can turn into a huge fishtail or a spin almost randomly.
On the other hand it's the most fun car to drive in its class, probably the fastest too.

Meanwhile with the Lancia Delta I had one test run where I went reasonably fast without learning the car first, I could just control it decently. I didn't end the stage because I fucked up at some point, but I could never do that with the Stratos. I accept the 037 to be a killer car, but the Stratos should be more controllable.

I spin off every corner, I can somewhat stay on the road in FWD but once I get powerful awd or rwd im fucking gone man.
Its impossible to control without steering wheel and pedals. Fucking analog is like 25%, another position 100% for throttle and steering, brakes are just one button aka 100% slam on the brakes which causes u to just go straight into the woods.

What he meant was, after you've loaded into the server, click on standings (the helmet) on the right hand side of the screen. Then at the bottom of the screen, click car select and pick a car. Don't actually leave the server, change, and come back. I had this trouble ages ago when it would just keep spawning me as a spectator for no apparent reason.
I'm horrible at oversteering an assetto corsa. I feel like no matter how fast I counter steer, or dial out lock, the car always snaps back on me.
Sliding a car around in a video game shouldn't be harder than sliding a car around in real life. I guess having all the G forces and yawing sensations in real life really does make it easier.

It's more or less dead, not enough people are interested in playing racing games to try to put the autistic level of effort I had in. I've found it more lucrative to host Team Fortress 2 at the moment than anything else, so I have priority in TF2 compared to here.
If there was significantly more interest in the series and servers, I would continue it. However since being killed off I've had less and less interest there as a whole.

a couple more edits to the Syclone's physics.
The "track bar" link has been moved so that it should simulate the presence of a driveshaft and Watts link.
Before, when I had it attached above the rear axle, the rear end would squat in turns instead of resisting the roll moment. With this configuration, the truck should resist rolling without squatting.
The original physics had the link behind the rear axle which produces a more controllable LRA in rF at the expense of physics accuracy.
I'm gonna try unequal length front suspension arms as well. The standard S10 front suspension is very close to what's represented here except for this little detail.

It's pretty much like hosting a party, it's on you and you get the responsibility but you have a blast at the same time.
Often times most of my hosting things happen when I find a thread wanting to play a game and there's nobody that really can host it. I sort of go "I dicked with it, here's something" and it explodes from just some little test intended for maybe 4 people like always to running 32 players and upwards for days straight.

Because it isn't a real axle, rFactor cannot simulate an LRA, so it's just a collection of links to force the game to manipulate the suspension like an LRA.
Having the link on the back of the axle resists the pulling of the rear tires. With the other links facing the other way, it's very stable. According to my research, that is one of the ways to simulate a Watts link in rFactor. As far rFactor's concerned, it's probably pretty close.
Not ever having driven a Syclone IRL, I really can't say whether my modifications are more accurate, all I know is it feels more like a pickup than the AWD rallycar it did before.
Putting it on the front makes it resist the push of the rear axle, and because it's placed the same direction as the rest of the links holding the axle on, it allows the rear axle to rotate and move about more, thus contributing to truck-like handling. This is where ISI put it on the Hammer car, though they attached the track bar to the top of the axle instead of the bottom.

I have to tow some small trailers, about 1000-1500lb. The only stipulation I have is that it has to be another car because the family car is going to be replaced by it. Current towing car is a Buick Century.
I will be getting myself another car in hopefully May when I graduate, but that's unlikely and will be more of a showroom car.

thats crazy, I cant flick the steering wheel cus it only turns at set speed and same with everything else. Throttle is either 0 or 100% so I find myself mashing the button which ofc means im never on boost in turbo cars. I love the meme when I spin out and manage to turn myself the right way on track he stays in 4th or 3rd gear (i use auto on gamepad) which makes it super awkward

It could be the drivers you are using to make the PC recognize it. I use a DS3 and make my PC recognize it as an x360 controller.

The cars are 1934 Fords that are scaled down and they have a 1300cc Yamaha bike engine in them, it's a really popular INEX series and the mod & cars are great to drive. For the sake of not getting stuck there's an added reverse gear included in the linked mod pack and all the tracks that you need are in the trackpack so just throw these in your rFactor folder and you're ready to race.
