Why doesn't FCA take the 488gtb chassis, throw in hellcat engine, have a stick shift, have a shitty plastic interior, throw out cutting edge ferrari stuff, call it the dodge viper and have it priced at the z06 level?

Isn't this what VAG did with lamborghini and the R8? Except that the R8 still has a nice interior.

It will save development costs and probably make a shit ton of money.

Why wouldn't something like this be done?

I wonder if Chrysler could straight take the blueprints for the engine and everything, or if they would still have to buy the drivetrain from Ferrari. It would probably be as much as a Corvette just for the engine and trans.

Ferrari wouldn't want to do it anyway.

Nvm I'm retarded. Hellcat engine.

Ferrari chassis would still cost a ton if Chrysler had to pay for them. And Ferrari would be a bitch about it and refuse anything like that.

Profitability mixed withpissy intra-company dynamics where in Ferrari would shit a chicken if any of their tech was released under the Dodge name, even as a Viper

Even if you could do it, it would most likely end up costing just as much as a C7, and Dodge would never ship enough units to cover the time and resources expended to make it happen

But ferrari and chrysler are part of the same company. Ferrari would probably bitch about it but in the end they want to make money.

Being part of the same company is kind of pointless. Besides FCA has already announced they are spinning off Ferrari, so there would still be massive infighting, and Ferrari could artificially manipulate the pricing on anything that FCA might want to use on another car

This EXACT kind bullshit (infighting between Toyota and Subaru) is what stopped the GT-86/BRZ/FR-S from seeing any more development after it was launched, other than cheesy appearance packages

Didn't know about the ferrari operating as a separate entity on it's own. Thanks.

Because the Viper is better.
>>
>>14050034
the hellcat-hemi wouldn't fit in a 488 without major modifications (it's too tall for the viper)

This, people don't realize Subaru didn't want the BRZ to take sales away from the WRX and WRX STi halo cars. While Toyota wanted a faster better sports car to compete.

Also for OP: snek is better.

Because the Hellcat engine isn't aluminium. Iron, big, 707hp V8 with a water to air intercooled supercharger in the rear of a mid engined sportscar? That's a recipe for uncontrollable oversteer if I ever heard one.

They'd be much better off having Ferrari and Dodge design a common chassis for the next generation Viper and the F12 successor. Maybe even move the Viper to a pushrod alloy V12, or a supercharged or twinturbo V10. It needs more power now that it's getting outdone by the Hellcats.

That said, I think they should think about upsizing the Viper. Aim for 750hp, try and keep current weight. Meanwhile, develop a small V6 FR sportscar, possibly with a twinturbo variant. If they can mamage BRZ weight with at least 400hp, they'll succeed at creating the volume they need.
Also, FCA desperately needs to move the third gen Hemi to aluminium block construction. It's keeping them well behind the competition, gets them less exposure for swaps too- while the architecture is usually superior to comparable GM pushrod engines.

the ferrari is not designed to be mass produced, it's very labour intensive. any development cost savings (negligible) would be outweighed by those costs.
more development savings can be made by just not bothering with development, but then it will be a piece of shit.
though even with lots of devlopment it will still be a piece of shit
