Where were you when you learned a loaded Model S is 5000 lbs?
>>
They start at 4300 lbs btw.
>>
Everyone knows this and there already is a Tesla containment thread.

Has anyone tired to work out the entire environmental impact of one of these things vs. a normal car. Including the environmental impact of manufacture (including of materials sourced) and of the grid electricity they consume?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were less environmentally friendly than your run of the mill car.
>>
>>14049637
They did that with the Prius. They say you have to own it for 20 years before it actually does good for the environment vs an economy car.
>>
>>14049637
People like to say they work out to about the same but electric having the advantage since it CAN be obtained from renewable sources (but its basically coal for now).

I go to a school that offers both petroleum and mining degrees and desu mining seems to royally fuck up ecosystems especially modern open face mining.
>>
>>14049637
You'd also want to factor in end-of-life impacts.

I assume an electric car is much less recyclable, and the chemicals in the batteries are probably pretty toxic and difficult to dispose of safely(?)
>>
literally who cares
>>
>>14049700
Efforts to increase battery recycling has increased dramatically, Tesla's battery factory will only make this area better.
>>
>>14049700
>and the chemicals in the batteries are probably pretty toxic and difficult to dispose of safely(
No, and you recycle them.
>>
WHAT A SHITTY SHOOP.

The original looks way friendlier and nicer.

I was at home, eating smegma butter, when Piotr ring

>tesla model s is 5000 lbs

The board the treats pig fat as car stat numero uno.
>>

EV batteries are too valuable to not be recycled.

Who cares about environment. It's faster than a 911, has 5 doors and cost next to nothing in maintenance.

Holy fuck, twice as heavy as my Miata...

...no

MORE THAN TWICE AS HEAVY O_O
>>

for an ev to even be as dirty as a gasoline or diesel car. you would have to charge the car in india or africa. where they use majority coal power plants that are really inefficient and polluting.

anywhere else in the world the EV will be cleaner. EVs can get even cleaner if electricity production gets cleaner.

In Quebec, operating an EV has almost no carbon footprint. since all electricity is made from hydro electric.

what the fuck

>where majority power is coal
>what is the US
>>
>>14049618
An S class also weighs like 5000 lbs
>>
>>14050848
A country where the coal we do use isn't burned in power plants from 1900.
>>
>>14050769
>creak bendy piece of shit doesn't weigh much
what a surprise
>>
>>14050854
Up to 4800 actually.
>>
>>14050848
Natural Gas has replaced a lot of coal power in the past decade or so.

Now coal is only 30% of the power, during the summer. Can be as little as 2% in the winter.
>>
>>14050867
s600 starts at 5,030 pounds
>>
>>14049637
Is this the clarkson fallacy in action?

The point is it can run off anything that makes electricity

>mining hurts the environment so much

Yeah fuck off. Electric is the way to go because we can eventually run everything off of solar power/thorium reactors/etc
>>
>>14049618
Where were you when you learned a loaded Escalade is 6000 lbs?
>>
>>14050883
Except the massive battery banks.
>>
>>14050867
>>14050881
Anywhere between 4600 to 5300 depending on what you get.

Pretty sure only the long wheelbase versions are sold in America as well
>>
>>14050892
and getting oil out of the ground and refined into gasoline and transported the the gas station has no environmental impact?

not to mention the political impact of having to deal with oil exporting countries. which tend to be full of muslims or spics.
>>
>>14050892
What do you mean except the batteries? Those are whats storing the electricity.
>>
>>14050883
Except nuclear has such a stigma not much is being built, and hydro is mostly tapped out. Solar is useless since people don't just use electricity on sunny days.
>>
>>14050913
We need to tell hippies to fuck off so we can get back to building better and safer nuclear power plants
>>
>>14050908
You cant have batteries without mining heavy metals out of fuckhuge holes.
>>
>>14050884
where were you when you realised lotus released a cayman gt4 rival that weighs 360lb less
>>
>>14050925
lithium batteries have no heavy metal content.

Pretty crazy that they are nearly double the weight of my car, which has about the same external dimensions, safety and comfort is overrated
>>
>>14050925
Ah the good old lithium mining meme.
>>
>>14050925
....what is the problem with moving metal around? A big hole in thr middle of nowhere?
>>
>>14050913
Solar would be an excellent choice for a mostly sunny region, somewhere like Texas you're going to have mostly sunny days, with backup batteries for rainy days.
>>14050913
Thorium is actually supposed to solve the nuclear stigma iirc.
