I've decided on getting an S2000.
I've got $11k to spend on one that has around 90k miles on it. Currently 19 and live in a big city (San Francisco).
I've never really worked on cars myself before.

Okay this i can agree with you on. However, if you plan on boosting one you're obviously already prepared to drop some serious dough on it.
It's really not that hard to switch out components in the engine in order to make it handle the boost. So it's really not unheard of.
As a n/a v6 engine i don't think you can get much better than a VQ.

the torque "curve" is the same, i.e. mostly flat with a jump at 6k rpm.
The AP2 has 2k rpm after going into the higher cam profile versus the AP1 with 3k, so you're pretty much wrong.

Insurance might destroy you, if they're a carrier whose rates are heavily model-dependent. Call and ask for quotes before you buy the car. I once did (with AAA), and the S2000 was 70% more to insure than most cars. Only the Civic Si would've cost more. Miatas only had a 5% premium over something like a Corolla.

I've owned a 350z and it was ok. I didn't just love it, but it was still a good car.
I now own an AP1 s2000 and I love the fuck out of it. It's not as fast as the 350 I don't think, but it is so much damn fun. Also I beat the hell out of mine and it just keeps coming back for more. 106000+ and not a hiccup
