Im trying to put my new coil on and it looks like it has less grounds then the one I'm taking out. Any one have a picture? The coil in mine grounds on the body, that rubber part that holds the coolant pipe (Where that caution hot! cap is) and on a screw thats by the little hook you use to lift the engine.

Its a 88 N/A.
>>
>>14045812
The new coil only has two wires that are grounds.

Thanks lol!
So that wire that going from the coil to the ignitor thats a ground wire right? Why were mine grounded to the body of the car?
>>

both of mine went into the "ignitor"

Cool does your MR2 have A/C? I'll put mine into the ignitor too. Also under the ignitor there looks like a little black fuse? or relay under it. I dont know what that is.

id say hardtops where i am are 50/50. though theyre more common than t-tops or sunroofs, sorta 50/20/30 (Hardtop/t-top/sunroof)
>>
>>14047781
Is the supercharged version way different? Not just bolt on kit? Would engine swap suffice?

if you want to supercharge you could on the stock engine. id advise getting a modern supercharger though as i have told people before the SC12 and SC14 superchargers are old, non-refurbishable without specialist bearings (that toyota refuse to supply people, toyota also refuse to allow the original supercharger manufacturer to supply rebuild kits)

The SC engine has lower compression ratio, forged pistons and considerably stronger conrods. It could take alot more boost than it does factory (and more boost than a stock 4age) however its gimped by the SC12 being undersized. you cant spin the SC fast enough to make good boost without
A) Intake temps going through the roof
B)Melting the teflon coating off the rotors
C) grenading the supercharger itself.

using an NA Intake manifold is also better as the SC manifold has some hard bends in it that can be pretty detrimental to airflow, its a minor performance increase, but it is one.

Bolt on kit to an NA engine would give you a mild HP increase, however buying an SC engine and converting to a modern SC or turbo conversion (very popular with modern turbos) would be ideal.

Then again 3SGTE swaps are also very common and several people are paving the way for putting 1NZFE engines in them.
>>
>>14047781
Thanks for the info! I'm tired so I'll update you guys tomorrow. Hopefully the car will have power under load.
>>
>>14047847
Sounds like a whole lot of fabrication to get that shit running, maybe better off staying NA since daily driver and whatnot
>>
Replaced my exhaust manifold with a new one today. All new gaskets and hardware.
Replaced my muffler about a month back with a new one.
And my '85 -still- makes a metallic vibrating / buzzing noise at about 40% throttle above about 3400 RPM. Gonna try vise griping different exhaust pipe heat shields soon and see if that helps.
>>
>>14047908
sure its not your tvis kicking in?
>>
>>14047747
rareish here (aus)

mostly t tops or sunroofs.
>>
>>14047864
Fitting an SC to a stock engine is not actually that hard, The only thing i am unsure of is if the stock ECU can handle this (research it)

Things you need
>new accessory belt to power supercharger
>mounts made for the supercharger of your choice
>pipes
>intercooler
>supercharger

Pretty much done. The advantage of a supercharger is that you dont need a fancy intake or exhaust manifold, you can just run the standard manifolds so long as you can get pipes to everything.

Also bear in mind the stock NA injectors dont like to go over 110hp they can be pushed up to about 130 before you just run out of volume
(you could look for a set of 4AGZE injectors, good to up to 240hp but if youre aiming for 240hp youre better off with a whole 4AGZE engine because you will need the forged pistons and conrods)
>>
>>14047959
T-VIS kicks it at 4200 RPM and I can hear the engine change tones when it does.
The noise I'm talking about sounds more like thin metal vibrating against other metal parts; a very metallic buzz.

>1NZFE

Why? It makes less power and weighs barely less. Is it the fuel savings?
>>
>>14050817
It makes the same power and weighs a lot less and gets better mpg
>>
>>14050826
>110hp = 128hp
>>
>>14050829
Have you seen what people do to 4ages to make and extra 10hp?
>>
>>14050873
What and a low compression NZ is going to respond so well to modification?
>>
>>14050877
Whoops, I miss-read that, I thought the 1NZ made more power and was saying that the swap would be more cost effective than building a 4age. Although now I see your point, I guess the only advantage would be tunability and fuel savings
>>
>>14050829
US 4age is 112hp
>>
Rained out today guys! Im having issues trying to get the top connector off by the fire wall. Its the smaller green one.
>>
>>14048040
Did some more digging around. Heat shield on the exhaust pipe might be the issue. Gonna get some hose clamps for it and see if that fixes it.

I want an Mr2 or an older corolla wagon soooo bad. But this sr5 is so god damn dependable. So many new parts on it right now.

Not really, AW11s are just backwards corollas, and SW20s are still as reliable as any toyota. They're not supercars

What

If he's going for an AW11 MR2. Yea he's gonna find seals going bad just about everywhere. Sure toyotas last forever. But eventually something goes wrong. Maybe he gets lucky and it last him half a year of perfect driving before he runs into an issue.
