I'm not getting involved that's the worst advice I've ever heard
>>
>>14044372
if you let off the rear brake when it locks up, you're gonna get a blip of power and you might highside
if you lock up your rear wheel, keep on the brake. It'll swing around cause it has no traction, but the bike will always try to go where the front wheel is pointing

This is hilarious. Locking up is the worst thing you can do and even worse if you continue to do it. Your rear basically slips around with no traction. What you want is regain traction and brake properly to reduce your stopping distance.

I have been googling what to do in a rear wheel lockup for the past 15 minutes just in case you were right and I was wrong, and everything I read comes up as "keep the brake locked up and ride out the skid while looking where you want to go"

Are you trolling?

Remember, my point isn't that you want to lock your fucking brakes in the first place, it's that in the case of a rear wheel skid, you don't let off the rear brake because that will send you into a highside
>>
>>14044446
have yall never rode mountain bikes? skidding the rear is easy.
>>
>>14044446
I'm not trolling because I learned it that complete opposite way. I only know it makes sense to not want your rear sliding around uncontrollaby.
>>
>>14044455
it's not uncontrollable.
>>
>>14044451
Ye ye but dig this: you don't ride a mountain bike at 50mph
>>
>>14044455
It'll swing around a bit and fishtail, but it will always want follow where the front of the bike is going and if you ride the skid out by standing on the brake and pointing the front where you want to go, you can slow down and come to a stop safely
>>
>>14044463
no but it is the same principle. when the rear starts locking up you steer in the direction of the skid and if you really don't like it just slowly release pressure from the rear brake.
>>
>>14044460
fuck off kkk

>>14044470
but then there is sitll the point that if you reapply you have a shorter stopping distance. I know it's not totally uncontrollable but it's not as controllable like with traction.
>>
>>14044475
In my experience, as long as you don't have wobbles from the skid, you can let off.

Who else /mischievous/ here?
>>
>>14044446
Under what circumstances could you highside by unlocking the rear wheel? I can't see how it would have that effect if you were riding straight. And if you were in a turn and you lock the rear you're probably going to highside anyway.
>>
>>14044475
Yeah fuck off!!
>>
>>14044480
but what I'm saying and what everything I'm reading is saying, is that if you let off the brake when skidding you're gonna highside. Unless you mean gradually letting off the rear brake before reapplying and then I can see how that might work

I haven't been riding for long, so you probably have more experience than me with this- but everything I have read and been taught and (successfully) done so far is the exact opposite of what you're telling me
>>
>>14044494
the only thing I could think of is if you are going at a fast clip, only use the rear brake, lock up and get sideways and then straighten the wheel out and let go of the brake.
>>
>>14044494
because they way I understand it, if you unlock the rear wheel while it's fishtailing, you're gonna suddenly give it power and unless it's almost completely in line with the front you're gonna end up tucking the front wheel under you and you'll get launched
>>
>>14044494
When you're fishtailing, unless you regain traction in line with your direction of travel highsiding is a distinct possibility.
>>
>>14044517
Where's the power coming from? I can only imagine locking the rear in an emergency brake situation in which case I'll have the clutch in.
>>
>>14044492
u lil rebel u
>>
>>14044529
That I'm not sure of. All I know is that if the rear wheel locks up, I do not let off the brakes and ride out the skid in a safe(ish) direction.
>>
>>14044529
>>14044551
>>14044517
there's no power, what is happening is that when you release the rear brake, the wheel will catch up with the pavement gaining grip, and since static friction is higher than dynamic one if you're going sideways the rear tire will suddenly stop going sideways and you'll probably highside unless going slow and prepared for the sudden change
>>
>>14044368
No fuck that. You release it once the rear is inline.

>that if you let off the brake when skidding you're gonna highside

You misunderstood something very wrong.

You highside when you rotate sideways and your tires suddenly gain grip again. But stomping on the rear or reapplying doesn't help you in that case.

You're preventing rotating sideways by reapplying the brake and gain traction (control) over your bike.

If you skid (lockgn up) there is a way higher chance it will rotate sideways, if you then gain grip again you're gonna highside.

It's all physics and leverage and shit, m8. If you've got long arms you're destined to fap slowly from the elbow. You need to either work out some kind of double motion where one stroke is powered by the elbow and the second is from the wrist then repeat. or you should find a tiny Asian girl with a shorter forearm to jerk you off. Holy fucking shit no. They're a terrible company. You get better support from random Chinese vendors on Alibaba and AliExpress, and those Chinese vendors are selling the exact same quality product for a fraction of the price.

Sena products are cheap shit that only sell for a premium because the motorcycle market is overlooked by larger vendors, and that allows them to Jew riders for low quality shitty gear.

bike sounds like it wants to start but won't kickstart
checked spark plug- it's firing
checked fuel tank- it's full
checked petcock- tried both ON and RES and it won't work
checked wires, all of them seem to be plugged in and not corroded (from what I can tell)
all running lights turn on, blinkers work, brake light works
I'm in neutral
carb has just been professionally cleaned and worked through 2 days ago
bike ran perfectly fine in the rain yesterday

I think it's something to do with the rain but I can't detect the start of the problem

Tried using the choke, tried not using it, tried fiddling with it

Basically any attempt I make at it gives the same result- it sounds like it wants to start, but doesn't. I think my last thought is the ignition is fucked but I'm not sure how that could have happened overnight, I rode it in the rain yesterday and started it up twice during that time, and when I put it away I stored it in a dry garage.
>>
>>14045620
It's a kickstart only. I get a small, faint whisper of a rumble from it when I kick it but nothing more

Going to purchase my first bike in about 2 weeks.

I'm so damn torn.

>Basic, easy, cheap
>Cheap buy in
>Cheap parts
>Cheap insurance
>Easy to work with

>CBR500R

What tears me down the middle is the 300 is cheaper but it's cheaper for a reason and I plan on keeping and racking up K's for a couple of years.

Whereas the Honda, as far as I know, is well known for lasting.

What the main concern is, will it be more costly to maintain the Honda or the 300 in the long run? And by how much?

cost me 90 dollarydoos to get the USA ecu for my bike, worth every cent.

You can actually do it for free if you cut a wire on the harness (these SV's have the same ECU as gsx-r's so they have a "mode switch" function but no button to press it, if you cut the cable you can put the restricted ECU to the derestricted map) but I didn't want to cut anything on the harness and couldn't pull the cable out of the fucking clip so I just bought the USA ecu soon as it was only 90 bucks.

With buzz lately about the CSC TT 250 and a local dealer pushing SSR XF250s on craigslist I'm wondering: Do you think the red chinese are ever going to make-it regarding quality?

The Koreans (Hyosung) seem to be having a hard time of it and they've had longer to get there.

Taiwan (Sym) is supposed to make good scooters but I've never heard anything about their bikes.

Mexico (Italika) apparently has a strong native manufacturer but you never hear of them in the US.

Are any of the non-european/non-big4 manufacturers putting out good and inexpensive product?
