I can't stand riding in cars that people have smoked in and never clean, During the winter my car usually gets a little more dirty than normal mostly because winters here (In Montana) really suck, and make me lazy.
During the summer, Or spring I usually spend 2 days or so detailing the inside and outside of my car... As in, It goes on jackstands and I take a 1600 PSI pressure washer to the undercarraige of the car, and axles, wheel arches, clean the motor... And the inside the seats come out and the carpets get vacuumed and shampooed, And everything is cleaned and wiped down.
I feel like keeping a car clean, Keeps it happier. Especially if you keep the engine and transmission clean, It will help you see any fluid leaks or problems easier.

i don't see the issue with eating in your car, so long as you dispose of the garbage and vacuum out crumbs just like you would your home. similarly, people with pets need to transport them to the vet, to training or competitions, to kennels, and so on. if animal hair gets everywhere... vacuum and shampoo it. like you would anything else.
using a car as a tool to complete tasks doesn't mean you don't take care about your car. not cleaning up after your messes and being an overgrown manchild does.
