>buy some aftermarket parts for ~$1,000 and replace the ugly taillights/headlights
>you now have funcar with high power-weight ratio and it looks neat

What's wrong with this? I mean, shit on people that drive stock Toybaru's because they're pathetic in the power department, but there is so much fucking aftermarket support for these things that you can do whatever you want with them very easily.

Am I the only one that thinks of these cars as fun testbeds for dropping in aftermarket shit?

Headers and a tune fix the torque dip. No need to supercharge. It kills your fuel economy though, they put that dip there for a reason. What it really needs is front camber bolts to put it out of the positives up front, high performance brake pads, different tires, and seat time.

It's the same price as a 1985 AE86 was. $12,000 in the mid 80s is about $26,000 in today bucks, so it's a sportier, faster car that's about the same price as a sporty trim Corolla was in its time. Get a full-time job, and you can buy cars.

Nothing.. what the fuck are you talking about.

Every car as an aftermarket surplus.
>>

>>
>>14040920
This. It really isnt overpriced, people who think that only look at horsepower and speed alone. If you only looked at that then there is no reason not to get a Mustang because it would seem like a way better deal. The FRS trades off speed for more sporty handling and feel. You cant have both with cheap cars.
>>
For a street car it's okay stock, it's fun and thats how they meant it to be, but if you get it on the track or really push it, you notice the handling is actually pretty shit. but it's just a general lack of grip and oversteer.

it's completely fixable with setup.

>29k for base model with no LSD

This is true. However, both at stock and at FI, the P:W is far, far inferior.

>Has never heard of the Jackson Racing supercharger
>Actually bought a 370z and has to live with it.

If you didn't need more than 2 seats, why not buy a c6 corvette, elise, z4 coupe, or Cayman?
>>
>>14042935
Some people have gotten 300whp on stock internals and FI with 86s. Even at 260whp it would have a better power to weight ratio than a 370Z.

The only thing as a platform the 370Z wins at is double wishbone. Power is comparably easy to add to making the car handle.
>>
>>14042975
Math must not be your strong point.

brz with $4k supercharger - 10.6lb per hp
stock n/a 370z - 9.4lb per hp

>some people have gotten 300whp on stock internals
yeah with e85, at that engine is clapped out at 400.. meanwhile the 370 could make 500+ pretty easily.
>>
>>14043003
Your numbers for the Z are wrong though. Please tell me you're using rear wheel horsepower for the Z and not crank power
>>
>>14043003
a brz with the equal p/w ratio would decimate a 370z around a track
>>
>>14043003
An 86 with 260whp would have a power to weight of about 10.7. A stock 370Z makes about 280 at the wheels, which is 11.7. A much worse power to weight ratio.

300whp is possible on 93. A few people made like 350, not sure if that lasted long. Its true a turbo 370Z could make even more hp. HP is much easier to get than a good driving dynamics though. Both are good platforms, I dont think ine has much more potential than the other.
>>
>>14043046
Well, the 370 has way more potential at the extreme end of race car simply because it has a higher displacement.

But as a street car, yeah they have the same potential, but the 370 is still a better deal i.m.o.
I think it is worth the extra 4-5k sticker price.

Not that I would ever buy either of these cars. Both are ugly to me, 370 especially.
>>
>>14040578
My Ep3 is faster than toyobae on the track lol
>>
>>14043020
Really so you don't need to upgrade suspension components, just slap on more power and go, oh okay
>>
>>14043089
The stock suspension is surprisingly capable.

Add some more power, better tires, better fluids and the BRZ is a car to be feared on the track.
>>
>>14043056As a race car, it 100% is determined by rules. If an engine swap is allowed then your point is moot. Also tons of 2 liter engines can make more than enough hp even for racing, it isnt a big issue. Weight is more important. However, depending on the racing macpherson struts is a disadvantage over wishbones which could be a major point for the 370Z. With unlimited aero however, it isnt really needed. The point is it depends on the class rules

I think they both look good. The 370Z is a too bloated though, and both look a bit to boyracer for me. I would own one but not over an S2000, RX7, GTR R32 or even a new Miata. I would take a used Cayman turbo too if they are cheap enough. I'm not sure if you can get one 30k used though.
>>
>>14043116
Oh okay so you don't know anything about tuning, thanks for coming out
>>
>>14043128
What part of what I said is false?
>>
>>14043089
Not really. Bigger tires and you should be good. The stock springs and shocks can handle more power, maybe make them a little firmer if you prefer. Unless your suspension broken suspension doesnt normally have a problem holding up to more power except the tires and maybe diff. Maybe there are some SRA that need upgrading for more power.
>>
>>14043137
The transfer of weight is very different in a 200 hp car suspension setup than a car that comes with 300hp stock, even on equal power level I bet the 370z would still be ahead, you can't expect better laptimes with more power although you will get better times, but without fine tuning the suspension you can't logically expect it to beat a 370
