Niva. The one good car that Soviet Russia ever designed.
In a way the other shitboxes were good for their intended purpose. They were shitty by modern standards, sure. But a basic, small RWD car with low compression and bare bones tractor-tier mechanicals allows them to survive like cockroaches on terrible roads and even more terrible owners. It may not be fancy, but it's VALHALLA enough to do the job.

They do however have some good engines, the 1.3 diesel multijet is great while its turbo actuator isn't busy seizing itself up and giving you boost problems.

Not really. They're pseudo well built with shit materials. The rear door latch mechanism for example; it's a complicated design made of plastic that warps over time so the exterior door handles stop working. Then there is the power steering. It's electronic and so power hungry that if the battery isn't precisely perfect, or if a ground is even slightly dirty, it fails at random with no warning while your driving. Electrical systems in Italian cars have always been dodgy so why they would make such a critical part of the steering so heavily reliant on it is unfathomable. I would complain about the steering feel but there isn't any feel to complain about. The buttons on the interior are white plastic with a black coating that wears through.

That's subjective. I can see that it's styled and that more effort has been put into it than it's rivals but I think they're quite plain. It's aged alright but it's really time for an update.
