How about a thread for luxury cars from the Great 48. Lincoln, Cadillac, Imperial, Cord, Packard, Duesenberg, Tesla, and any others I might have missed.

this fucking would have been literally the most perfect burger sedan and possibly all around luxury sedan of 2015/2016/2017whateverthefuck if v8 and rwd.
>also assuming by default the production model is going to be ugly/watered down/cheap looking af and with the interior being nothing like how cool it is in the concept
but why tf does lincoln keep shilling fwd and v6's. will they ever step their game up again? but the 2016 continental concept is by far the only good looking car i've probably seen within the last 6 years

Why is RWD and V8 considered necessary for luxury? No driveshaft tunnel means a flatter floor, AKA more interior space, and it's a turbocharged 6 cylinder is it not? Plenty of power.

There are FWD luxury cars. And there are FWD V6 luxury cars. There are also FWD i4 luxury cars.

Stop making shit up with you anecdotal experience.

If you see the interior of the 2016 Continental concept, there's no floor where driveshaft tunnel would go

It has an AWD system that sends 70% of the power to the rear in normal conditions and has a separate differential at every wheel like the new Focus RS so can send almost all power to any given wheels. It's probably going to handle quite well. I expect it will be a lot like an American A8. The V6 in it is also going to make 400+hp and it can fit a V8 should Ford ever decide to move it into a more premium segment. I suspect once Cadillac launches it's new twin turbo V8 in the CT7/CT8, Ford will likely need to offer a competing V8 model for prestige in the Chinese market.

>I expect it will be a lot like an American A8
I expect to be a lot like a stretched ford fusion, because that's what it is.

V8 is necessary for smooth engine operation and smooth naturally aspirated power, it's more about torque than horsepower. RWD is simply the better balanced layout, the front wheels take most of the impact, it's harder for them to take out the road roughness when they have to power the car as well.
>>
>>14035001
>V8
>smooth
AHAHAHA it's a shaky, shuddering, blubbering mess. Might as well mount a V6 or I4 if you run a V8. The only engines suitable for upmost luxury applications are V12, or I6 at the very least.

So it'll be transverse, RWD biased AWD V6?

I didn't say smoother, I only said if you install a wonky bullshit V8 you might as well use a V6 or I4 because they're all crap compared to the smoothness of six cylinders per bank.
>>
>>14035276
>if you install a wonky bullshit V8 you might as well use a V6 or I4

What exactly is a wonky bullshit v8?
I understand if you buy a 50 year old car with the original engine it will shake, especially when warming up. And that's mostly due to the worn motor mounts and bushings.

other factors come into play along with the fuel mixture and idle speed, but when everything is like it should be then its perfectly fine.
