There are pretty obvious reasons why they're popular.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think the Wrx Sti is a great sports cars. You don't have to have a huge fanboy hard on for them, I don't. But they're not overrated, they're hugely popular for a reason.

i dunno if you're old enough to remember or if the pictures can still be found on nabisco,

but when the WRX bugeye first hit the shores in the US, there was some SPECTACULAR carnage pics of the idiots crashing their first awd car.

my gawd, there was some gnarled as, A-B-and or C-pillar compromised twisted metal, and these fucks largely walked away from them.

the GD does weigh significantly more than the GC chassis, but it ALL went into rigidity and basically making a pseudo roll cage.

the legacy scores high marks too.

That's the one shitty thing about the Subaru community - the owners are all cunts and it's basically impossible to find a clean WRX that hasn't been modded to all hell or otherwise shit on in some capacity.

It's impossible to find an intact older WRX for less than $8000, and that's basically buying someone else's used up husk of a car.

$5000 gets you a non running car, which is fucking laughable.

I guess I could be classified as a "millenial" (born in 1989). Well, I was moving up to michigan for school and I knew a guy who goes to the big car auctions. He got me a stock STi with 5k miles on it for $22k.

The car was a fucking monster, especially after a downpipe and a tune. I went over 170mph at least 5 times. I remember my first street race against a C5 'vette 'vert, I won, but not by much. But winning with AWD, 4-cylinders, 4 doors, and a massive trunk says something.

That car was just so ridiculously fast, when the turbo spools in 2nd and 3rd, you get pushed back into your seat.

50% of the sales of the 2008-2014 WRX/STi were the hatchback though. It seems like a no-brainer to have a hatchback/wagon version when they were selling that many of them, and the Levorg is basically an STi wagon with the new 300hp FB20DIT that should be in the US STi for 2017.

Fixed with offset rods in the FA and FB series engines
>and ring landing thickness
Was only a major problem on the 2008 STi because of a lean surge, fixed now
>and even exhaust pulses
Put equal length headers on it and it's just like an inline engine. Uneven exhaust pulses were only because of the unequal length headers on all the turbo cars until the 2015 WRX. The STi still has them, but it probably won't anymore after they (hopefully) get the FB20DIT in 2017 like they said it would.

Subaru isn't shitty, and their bringing the WRX here encouraged other car brands to import their rally-spec vehicles. Without Subaru importing the WRX we never, at least stateside, would have gotten the Focus ST, Evo, Neon SRT4, Fiesta ST.

For one thing it increases total displacement. The EZ36R uses an EZ36R case. Each new style rod adds ~100cc of displacement.
It also allows Subaru to put the engines together more easily on the assembly line due to the angle the rods go in (they said this in an advertisement video).

Late 90's-early 2000's Legacy or Outback. Mine was $1800 and I put about 1.5k-2k into it in labor and parts. Definitely avoid the 4 speed auto if you can, they're garbage. If it's over 3k and needs headgaskets or a timing belt, it's not worth it. Unless it's a GT wagon with a 5 speed, those are rare as fuck, and they have a limited slip rear diff, 16.5:1 steering rack over the outback's 19:1, and a sportier suspension.

Well, literally 100% of the 2.5L Subarus sold between 1995 and 2004 will need headgaskets at some point. It's a shit design and even I can admit that. Luckily they released a revised headgasket in 2004 that fixes the problem and it shouldn't need headgaskets ever again. The rest of the car is fantastic too, it runs and drives so nicely. Max comfy/10.

>>
Subaru is weird, they talk all big, they advertise huge, like they're Honda or Toyota but they're just a little insignificant shit with a huge trust fund.
>>
>>14040837
How do you expect them to get bigger without advertising a lot? Normie 'murricans don't do any research on anything before they buy them for some reason, so all they ever see is what they're force fed on TV and ads online.

The most successful businesses nowadays are the ones with the biggest advertising budgets. Look at beats headphones, they're not all that great but even with their inflated price they hold 64% of the $100+ headphones market due to how fucking much they advertise, yet brands like Sennheiser and Audio-Technica that make fantastic products have almost no market share because they don't advertise. I know this is /o/ and not /g/, but MKBHD has a good video or two about this if you want to know more.

Im not joking.

Those fuck sticks all buy subarus and then head out over the cascades into the country side to cross country ski in their older age.

Then they go home, and breed young idiots, who learn that subarus are gods gift to hippies and yuppies... never realizing that their transmissions are made of glass and that they will be buying head gaskets every 2 years.

They aren't really comparable cars. The T5 awd s 60 is 250 hp and similar to a wrx except with a better interior. But it costs 35k starting when wrx starts at 26k

The s60 t6 awd r - design with its 310 hp is similar to a sti performance wise but it starts at 45k when an sti starts at 35k

Also none of the S60's are offered with at stick.

They are more like a grown up version of a wrx or sti. They cost more and you don't really get any more performance for that price just more creature comforts

Great cars but for someone looking for the daily drivable rally car the S60 isn't it

Holy fuck thats so wrong. I work in warranty. Headgasket after headgasket after headgasket. Bad enough that Subarus actual policy is that if you do not fail a state inspection, and you do not cross contaminate... it isnt covered under their 5/60. I get so many subie head gaskets where the history shows the leak began before the 5/60 was up and subie went "LOL NOPE NOT LEAKING BAD ENUFF" to get out of them.

Because they fuck everything up. They seriously drive 45mph with highbeams on and still manage to whack 50 deer and/or get stuck in a snow bank... then when they get here... theres a 50% chance they get inspired to build a cabin up in the woods at insane prices, driving up property costs... and potentially voting on bullshit they know nothing about.
>OMG WE NEED TO REINTRODUCE WOLVES NEAR THIS FARMLAND SO I CAN MAYBE POSSIBLY SEE ONE WHEN I GO CROSS COUNTRY SKI.
>WE DONT WANT PEOPLE TO HAVE GUNS IN THE WOODS THO
>WE NEED TO SPEND 150 MILLION DOLLARS TO DO A STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF ORV'S AND THE EFFECTS THEY HAVE ON THE SPAWN CYCLE OF SALMON. HIKE UP TAXES.

Its like they fucked up their own area and decided they need to spread their retardation across the mountains. I see Subaru as the vehicle that is letting them do it.
>>
>>14046649
This. They weren't indefinitely fixed after 04. Mine Is an 08 outback @135k miles and they got replaced at 100k. The car over all has been quite reliable though.
>>
It depends. Subaru customer wise is doing it well. They still make reasonable cars for reasonable people via forresters/outbacks/etc etc
BUT the difference between Subaru and lets say Toyota is that they still hold on to a market that may be reasonable but still want sport sedans..which also spill into the tuner scene/ younger..single no kids.
Its really perfect marketing.

No pics, but it's literally the same car as this, wheels and all.

The engine was swapped out for a newer 2.0 litre from a WRX. Turns out one of the heads was fucked. Finished work one week, planned a weekend away and the cunt wouldn't even last 5 minutes doing 80. Spent 2.5k on a 98 Version 4 WRX STi motor and gearbox to swap in, and the fucking engine they sent me from Japan is fucked as well. Currently in a dispute between PayPal and the seller because the assholes would only offer me a 200 dollar refund.

So naturally I hosed off the Vortex and got her re-registered. Never had a problem with it.
